POW, by Deleted on Aug 26, 2011 12:37:48 GMT 1, "the wank they toss out these days is utter gash!" I thought about that line this morning when I was making a luvery cuppa. Made me laugh all over again. Childish, but true!! Always good to start the day with a chuckle, thanks neatemichael!!
Chuckles aside, with the amount of supposed "Street Art" around, I would imagine it's increasingly hard to find a true talent amongst the flotsam and jetsam in a sea of wanna-be's. I think they (POW) do quite a good job in that field. If you imagine them as an independent record company they would be the equivalent of someone like XL Recordings - a label that started off with stable of good underground artist (think The Prodigy, SL2) controlled the output to maintain quality (for the most part) and have a sound A&R department that have taken time to nurture their artist and invest in newer talent whilst given them time to develop. They successfully moved from their niche market (hardcore/dance) and helped break many new artist/genres (Dizzee/Adele/White Stripes/BasementJaxx/Friendly Fire) to the mainstream and have major artist (Beck, Damon Albarn, RadioHead/Thom Yorke) coming to them for their main output and side project releases as well as feeding artist to the major labels and maintaining more "left field" acts like Signur Ros and M.I.A. Even though every release doesn't hit, they have faith in their artist' craft and stay with them. Their formula of balancing commercially/artistically successful acts has worked excellently for them as after 20 years, XL Recordings are probably the most successful independent record label in the world and have an artist roster that I am sure is the envy of many of their industry peers. It's an easy comparison to make. Think where POW are after 10 years and where they could be going... These are some of my thoughts, I am also still chuckling about "gash" ;D

POW, by twist65 on Aug 26, 2011 14:40:16 GMT 1, ^^^^ great analogy, nails it I think!
Was wondering who POW have missed out on that they should've released at least 1 print by - that would maybe also act as a guage of how much they're still at the top of the game. Can't think of many - Supine? JR? Herakut? Sure there would be other factors why some artists or their management wouldn't work with them, but as someone previously posted most artists would jump at the chance to help them take the next rung up...

POW, by rottenredrooster on Aug 26, 2011 15:54:24 GMT 1, I don't care if the artist releases themselves or a gallery/print house. It's all the same. Some of the prints I like, some I don't. But either way, I still respect the time and effort that has gone into produce the artwork.
I personally think that POW still has a nice atmosphere and are very welcoming. The South American art that they are focusing on in my opinion is brilliant and a lot better than what the current mainstream artists are producing.

POW, by Gentle Mental on Aug 26, 2011 18:12:52 GMT 1, I think POW has always stuck to their guns - delivering what it thinks is cool. worthy of our attention.
POW is not reckless. It has a good gut feel on things to come.
you're bitching now because you can't see how this new batch can be the stars of the future.
as most couldn't years ago, with Dface, banksy, micallef, faile, hewlett, insect's prints hanging around for months unsold at a tenth of its current value.
