Three actually. The one we all know and love is in the National Gallery, the other two are in the Munch museum.

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by Fred Quimby Fan on Apr 13, 2012 11:02:37 GMT 1, Wasn't that one in Oslo nicked and later found a few years ago (nicked not for the first time either).
I'd say $80m for the Munch is a bargain - I expect it to make $120-140m

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by harryh74 on Apr 13, 2012 18:28:27 GMT 1, I took a trip to Sotheby's today and it was well worth the small queue, 2 bag searches and 2 metal detectors for 2 minutes with the Scream. It surprised me just how basic it looked in execution but so strong and emotive to look at. Sad to think that this may well go to Qatar or Russia and not be seen in public again for a long time.

I thought the Qatar buyers are looking to publicly displaying the art, no? They paid the quarter billion for the Cezanne to buy culture and bring tourism to rival Dubai. Not much in the way of history but certainly tons of money so why not? My recollection is that their recent trophy purchases are not hidden on yachts but instead heading for display at one of the museums in Doha. The UAE is racing to build museums along with all of the other construciton booming in that region.
Anyone know if the card players is on exhibit yet?

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by Winter on Apr 13, 2012 21:58:54 GMT 1, Also went today, so much security I'm sure some of it's for show. It was quiet when I went but it looks geared up for big queues which I reckon will be a the weekend. Nice to see it though and it was nicely presented in pitch darkeness. Love some of the other pieces on show. Great to see some huge Warhols - well worth a vist if you get a chance

You're def right IMO.
They have big plans in the area. They already built partnership with le Louvre & the Guggenheim.

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by drevil on Apr 15, 2012 4:21:18 GMT 1, Looks like there are a few other Munch pieces in there. Interesting to see the stark contrast in estimated price between those and the strongest piece made by the same artist.

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by sanchorockin78 on May 2, 2012 10:22:56 GMT 1, So glad I got to see this, (not the 'homer' version- the Olsen and would rather it go to the Qatar royal family and be in a museum than on an Oligarchs wall. It will be a good indicator, some speculating a mammoth $130Million world record, others saying it be another cezanne card players let down & it wont go over $80 million.
Ahh yes - forgot that the Cezanne painting was resold for..$250Mill - This could go through the roof if rival Emir's start bidding!!

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by fatscoundrel on May 2, 2012 11:55:29 GMT 1, Although their are a few wealthy Munch collectors out there who will bid for this item, there a others who will bid for it purely as a status symbol. It is so universally recognised and iconic that to own it would to be gain a bit of it's glory by association. It is sad really that it may not even go to someone who truly appreciates his art. Too expensive for a art gallery even though 3 out of the four are in museums. Probably some Russian billionaire.
