Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by sanchorockin78 on May 3, 2012 9:06:36 GMT 1, $119.9 Million!. The most expensive auction ever ( apparently the others were private sales ). Wonder who got it..names floating around were Paul Allen and of course the Qatar Royal family?, I am clearing a wall in the front room but this is a complete coincidence

Incredible. Down to 'stefan' & 'charlie' and charlie's backer did not seem to hesitate in getting a bid to him!!. It would have been funny to see someone in the room stand up and bid at the last!...you need more drama at these events rather than faceless bidders ;D

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by Brushstrokes 75 on May 3, 2012 15:14:50 GMT 1, The most striking piece in this sale for me was the Dali Printemps necrophile.... Amazing in the flesh. It looked like light was busting out of the painting. (and I'm not the biggest fan of Dali's work).
330 mil that's what I call good proceeds

Preferred the Schiele.
How much did the auction house make out of that evenings work I wonder?

Munch The Scream -Sotheby's May 2, by Shoot Again on Jul 12, 2012 10:53:21 GMT 1, BILLIONAIRE FINANCIER PAID $120M FOR ICONIC ARTWORK (Wall Street Journal)
"Billionaire New York financier Leon Black paid Sotheby's nearly $120m for "The Scream", Edvard Munch's 1895 pastel of a terrified man holding his head, according to several people close to the collector. The identity of the buyer - who set a record for a work of art sold at auction - had been one of the art world's most closely guarded secrets since the dramatic, 12-minute sale on May 2. The 60-year-old Black, who sits on the boards of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, already has a $750m collection including drawings by Vincent van Gogh and Raphael, watercolors by J.M.W. Turner, cubist paintings by Pablo Picasso and ancient Chinese bronzes"
