The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by Deleted on Oct 30, 2012 10:06:03 GMT 1, Commission 25% import duty 5% however I would imagine slot if these works will be making there way back to Blighty! Sellers with tails between their legs , especially the canvass .. Poor results but only to be expected in the context of things.. Life and death on the east coast probably more important than an urban art auction funny enough!

No way, 99,99% of the world population could have joined the auction.

How much is a comission at Bonhams for a Banksy print?

True, but after all it is Bonhams, well known for it.

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by Deleted on Oct 30, 2012 10:43:23 GMT 1, Also think less artists are buying back their work and inflating prices these days.
True IMO, although their backers and the Gallery owners still have their interests / investments to protect.

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by eschiff on Oct 30, 2012 10:48:29 GMT 1, love, it depends on the value of the print more than the artist (although sometimes they are trying to fill an auction so you may get lucky) but initial it was offered at 12% and got it down to 8

Agreed, I'm quite surprised by the amount of pieces unsold - I thought the estimates were quite reasonable. Not a good start for the Urban Art Auctions in the US.

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by twist65 on Oct 30, 2012 10:58:55 GMT 1, whoa! some shocking results there (and a few really good ones too). My little boy was a total nightmare last night which totally scuppered my chances of having a dabble, bit gutted as a few pieces I was tempted on passed. Oh well, maybe there's gonna be some more opportunities to pick things up at reasonable cost after those results!!

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by covertshadowops on Oct 30, 2012 11:24:31 GMT 1, HAHAHA.... what a mess up.
taken from Bonhams website news...
"Los Angeles โ Bonhams is set to take L.A. by storm with an outstanding selection of street art at the inaugural US Urban Art sale on 29th October."
Urban Art specialist, Gareth Williams, who first launched the highly successful format in London, comments, "We are bringing the sale to Los Angeles because of the huge level of interest we have received from Californian collectors."
New York took the storm. Bonhams got the shit. having an auction time of 6pm, really didn't allow live european bidders any chance.

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by johnnyh on Oct 30, 2012 13:24:19 GMT 1, It also could be a bit of a Bonhams turf war. If you notice all the press seems about the London office so could be regarded as a London show at the LA office so may be they did not get as much support as expected and possibly did not endear themselves to the LA office.
Not many US pieces in the show which tends to imply that the US LA and surrounding galleries did not input into the show and also hence did not really attend the show in the numbers really required .....did they get much marketing for the show. Eg If the profit goes to London did the LA team want to put a lot of effort in when they have their own projects etc.
East coast as mentioned down. Not norm for Europeans especially Brits to buy Brit Urban and ship back to UK. Timing also off for Europe. Not great timing for Asia also.
I bought a piece at their last Urban Sale in the UK and have an account with them but recieved no mailers on this event which I thought was poor so seems to be a marketing issue rather than a Urban Street market poor performance.
Shame for the sellers considering the fees they charge should expect more. Seemed that pieces that were specifically targeted did well but other pieces went unsold as they buyers were not their either in person or online. the last bit of the auction that I saw and some cracking pieces seemed to have almost only two poss three bidders and in certain cases none which was a bit shocking. Wish I had got on earlier as some lovely pieces in the sale

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by Deleted on Oct 30, 2012 13:37:21 GMT 1, It wasnt put on at the best time or day - 6pm in PST - totally eliminates the uk/european market. 6pm LA is one big car park - so you either had to leave work early to get home to bid online, or work late. Shoddy set up from a rank amateur auction house.

Four and a half grand (GBP) is in my opinion not cheap.

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by popmozz on Oct 30, 2012 14:03:15 GMT 1, Personally I expected more by Bonhams here. I was missing soul and/or golden thread. Bit careless at all. Did they had an agreement for a first show in US, not including US artists? Weird strategy.

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by silvermyn on Oct 31, 2012 21:03:28 GMT 1, An extract from an email I got from one of Bonhams 'Specialists' in the Contemporary Art Department when I decided not to send a piece over to LA:
"I can understand your decision that you may then do not want to consign, it is absolutely your choice, I would like just to point out that this Urban Art Sale in LA will be an incredible event and we expect extremely strong results."
It was incredible alright not sure about the results though...

The next Bonhams Urban Art Auction in LA - 29 Oct, by oneeye on Oct 31, 2012 22:08:19 GMT 1, Worst auction I've ever attended. They didn't even bother to wipe down the filthy frames. Poor execution all the way around. And it showed.
