La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by Coach on Jul 11, 2013 18:46:28 GMT 1, Bought a Silver. Surprised there isn't more love for this. Infinitely more interesting than a little girl splashing through puddles. Fair play to you. Glad you are pleased. I'll be honest. I thought this is a very nice print. I just felt it was a bittoo highly priced.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by alittle on Jul 11, 2013 18:51:43 GMT 1, Coach, I do agree with you on price. If this was 1 penny more, it would have exceeded my mental limit for what I was willing to pay for it. I think the edition should have been a little smaller, or the price should have been lower. The first release, "Miami" was a great buy at a 100 quid, and if the execution on this print matches it, I'll still be happy with what I spent.

Same here. No religion on walls.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by Deleted on Jul 13, 2013 13:13:09 GMT 1, I don't really mind if its religious or not - I'm not religious in any way.
I'd only think to myself 'do I want to see this on my wall?' and with this print the answer is no.
I still think that the La Pandilla crew are incredibly talented and that one day they're going to release something that'll be an instant hit.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by randomname on Jul 13, 2013 15:32:40 GMT 1, Religion annoys me. So anything overtly religious would annoy me. As far as Toxic Mary, that seems more anti-religious than religious to me.

Yeah religion annoys me too as it causes so many problems in the world. I wouldn't put anything up that was seen as 'pro' religion as that would be a bit hypocritical but this print here wouldn't bother me as it's so surreal I wouldn't think of it as a religious picture.
Edit - no I wouldn't hang Toxic Mary on my wall. As has been pointed out it's quite an anti religious picture so that's not the reason, I just don't think that as a print it's an especially good image and imo is certainly one of his weaker ones!

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by randomname on Jul 13, 2013 15:52:57 GMT 1, I'm pretty much in the same boat. And I see your point. This print doesn't bother me that much. But enough I wouldn't want it on my wall.
The only religion that doesn't annoy me is Buddhism. I have a 200+ year old painting of a Buddha on the side of a Chinese armoire. That I actually do like. But I don't think of it as being religious or spiritual. To me it's just a cool, old painting on a piece of furniture.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by Coach on Jul 13, 2013 16:27:57 GMT 1, Interesting. To discount (or dislike) relgious art is to discount a huge proportion of beautiful paintings and masterpieces. I have no problem having religious art on my walls, and those that have known me on here may remember that a significant proportion of my art collection are medieval illuminated manuscripts. All are religious - mostly from Books of Hours. I have treasured books depicting alter pieces and the like. I also have a life size painting of a saint, done in the style of a medieval manuscript miniature, which greats anyone ascending our stairs. I will post a picture if anyone is interested. I am an aethiest. I abhor atrocities (and unreasonable behaviour short of that) done in the name of religion. But art is creative; a good thing to have come out of religion. The church in Europe was the largest patron of artists for many many years. To dislike religious art surely means to dislike much of the work of Michelangelo, Caravaggio et al. In fact my favorite painting, The Garden of Earthly Desires by Hieronymus Bosch, is a religious painting. In my opinion, to hang religious art is not to condone any of the distateful past (or present) of religion.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by Deleted on Jul 13, 2013 16:37:33 GMT 1, Good point as always coach.
I went to the Sistine Chapel a few years ago and was completely blown away by the beautiful art there - I suppose I can appreciate the art but just don't want it on my walls as it tends to (IMO) look better on the walls of a grand religious building than in my 2 bed semi detached ; )

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by randomname on Jul 13, 2013 16:41:37 GMT 1, I appreciate old masterpieces for their artistry. But I wouldn't hang a print of one on my wall. If I were rich enough, I wouldn't own an original either. Regarding Michelangelo, I do like that he incorporated a lot of subtle "fuck you's" to the church into his work. The man was a genius.

Since you ask :-) Here are a few examples
This one is very special - all of my manuscripts are from between 1400 and 1500 (think about who was alive then - Shakespear, Elizabeth I etc). But this one is from circa 1250
And here is the life size painting
I enjoy these everyday as being things of great beauty, whilst being an unwavering atheist.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by Deleted on Jul 13, 2013 22:24:40 GMT 1, Wow ok they are amazing.
For me just having something - anything - dating back to 1250 on my wall would be a constant source of amazement for me.

What makes it even more special is that most are french, Dutch, Italian or German. But the one from the thirteenth century is early English. My collection among to about thirty pieces. Thank you for the kind words.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by Coach on Jul 13, 2013 22:56:31 GMT 1, The vids above are just examples. Ann Widecombe spoke as well, on behalf of the church. Anyone interested in what Christopher Hitchens (RIP) said, check out his other speeches. He was one of the Four Horsemen Of Atheism along with Daniel Dennett, Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris. Well worth checking out their work.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by Feral Things on Jul 13, 2013 23:13:16 GMT 1, Those pieces really are beautiful. I'm possibly agnostic and more likely an atheist but I think a large part of the beauty of these pieces is the love and devotion which their authors put into the work. Is there any indication of whereabouts in England the thirteen century piece was created?

I may be wrong but, as far as I am aware Christopher Hitchens was the only Horseman to describe himself as an Antitheist, being the most 'militant' of the four. Richard Dawkins invented a theistic scale of 1 to 7, in which all of the Horsmen would have described themselves as a 6, being unable to prove the non existance of god, but nontheless being 'de facto atheists'. Hence the use of the word 'probably'. If you have any heads up regarding future lectures, please let me know.

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by swamped on Jul 14, 2013 0:41:38 GMT 1, How can you tell if those are indeed real and not repo's, there are tons of re-issued,knock-offs, and just plain fakes to sell to religious people. What makes those stand out as real ones to you? I only ask because my grandparents own a very large chain of stores that supply most Catholic churches up and down the west coast, so I have heard my entire life about how bad it is when buying old scripts and things..what's the trick in telling the difference? Scripts are nice, not for me, but the painting this thread started about is cool on THAT wall, but I couldn't see it in a home setting..

La Pandilla "Miami" print release, by Deleted on Jul 14, 2013 1:28:55 GMT 1, Chris Hitchens was an incredibly interesting erudite man (unlike his brother it has to be said). He went all too early. Interestingly Coach this love for these works does show a faith of sorts, in the human pursuit.
