Kaws @ the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, by brazzy on Dec 9, 2016 21:41:50 GMT 1, Will be visiting the kaws show this weekend from out of state. Anyone have any recommendations for things to do or eat while I'm down there? pappadeaux, in'n'out burger, and freebirds are the chain restaurants I visit when I'm in Dallas. Make sure to check out the Kaws pieces at the northpark mall.

Kaws BFF Plush, by brazzy on Dec 3, 2016 0:30:15 GMT 1, To my understanding you have to sign up for the raffle in person only yes, this is my understanding as well. Limited entries should definitely help my chances, no?

Kaws BFF Plush, by brazzy on Dec 2, 2016 21:35:09 GMT 1, They are now running a KAWS toy raffle. They have a huge selection of toys spanning his career. The day after the exhibit closes in January, they are going to draw names and email people. You have 20 minutes to call back before they move on to the next name. What you win is not the item itself, but an opportunity to BUY the item. There were more rules, and they have the prices. One of the items is a Sorayama Companion, which would be pretty fun to have. Were the prices of the raffle toys reasonable or were they priced at market value? Regardless, I'm definitely signing up.

Kaws BFF Plush, by brazzy on Dec 2, 2016 6:18:25 GMT 1, Ha! Making something accessible for everyone! I think Mr Kaws might have lost touch that $200 is still a decent wedge for most normal people. I'd imagine these are produced and shipped from Asia for under $10. Exactly! I attended the lecture and had mixed feelings. First off the exhibit itself is great. He was nice and basically presented a slideshow that was chronological about his career. There were some amusing anecdotes, but he gave very little insight into his inspirations, themes, or ART. It felt superficial. There was some very low-key name dropping, of celebrities, artists, and institutions, but I think there should be some meat to connect all those names to him as a person and artist. Re: the figures, at first I was heartened to hear his stance on the secondary market and fakes, but when he said the open edition is supposedly "accessible" enough to be thrown around by a child, I just realized he is operating on a different plane and must be a bit out of touch. Plus I think the whole thing is just a stupid game. Either keep the shops stocked, or just say there's not going to be any more. Even the shop wouldn't say yes or no, just "we haven't heard anything." That's total bullshit. So yeah, if you can, go see the exhibit. It's awesome, and I'll be going back to see it again. But the man definitely has his head in the clouds. And I don't think he's being nefarious or malicious, just out of touch. Did he take questions or sign anything after the lecture?
Sounds pretty much like the lecture my wife and I attended from him in 2013.

Kaws Piranhas When You're Sleeping Print, by brazzy on Nov 30, 2016 14:45:01 GMT 1, They're gonna land people hook, line & sinker on this release. It's a lot of money to shell out $5k for a Kaws print this size seems pretty reasonable to me. I mean relative to his recent print prices. It's even a relatively small edition at 50. If you are a Kaws fan that likes the image and can afford his prints, this would be a good deal, IMHO.
Can't imagine how much it would cost to properly frame this piece.

Kaws @ the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, by brazzy on Nov 21, 2016 17:49:42 GMT 1, Congrats! I saw him speak a few years ago. I enjoyed the lecture and he took everyone's questions and signed autographs (and doodled) for anyone that wanted one. Wish I could make it, I'd get him to sign everything kaws related I own. ask about the open edition if you get a chance.

Dear Banksy, by brazzy on Oct 30, 2016 17:38:44 GMT 1, Dear Banksy,
Keep catering to the rich while managing to keep your image as "artist of the people".
Also, please release an open/timed signed edition print, like Faile did, for us poors that would love to display one of your works but will never have the funds. Saturating the market with a single image can't hurt the value of your other works/prints, right?

Kaws @ the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, by brazzy on Oct 30, 2016 16:40:23 GMT 1, I was at the opening. i can't remember how many people were there but one thing i can clearly remember is that maybe 20-25 are true fan of his work and all the rest were flippers. wtf?! That sounds about right. I would be willing to bet it was about that same ratio at the choose your weapon release. Artists that are hugely popular tend to attract people trying to make easy money. If Kaws sold his items at higher prices, there might be less flippers, but more bitchy fans complaining about how greedy he is. I don't think he has any desire at all to saturate the market with his items either.

Kaws @ the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, by brazzy on Oct 25, 2016 14:44:21 GMT 1, Winter I hope you are correct. There has to be a place to buy the toy and I am not sure why the museum took down the kaws section. Hopefully it will re appear and everyone will be able to order what they like. It would certainly make sense for them to do so. There is a ton of money for them to make. did you try during the initial release? their site could not handle the traffic in ANY WAY. my guess is they had an initial batch of merchandise for the release and it will all be sold with the existing orders. that is what the batch emails are indicating for people purchasing. i would also guess that these will be available again thru some avenue eventually (kaws website, etc) once another batch of merchandise is manufactured. if their site can't handle it, it would make sense for the modern FW to defer to having kaws handle the next release round (even if they get a cut of the profits). either way.... there is no indication that they are sold out forever. With something like this, I would also agree with you in expecting that he'll probably have some to drop on his website. hopefully he'll indicate this after the museum debacle is taken care of. I'm hoping for an announcement from him either tomorrow or thursday with details of an upcoming kawsone drop.

Kaws @ the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, by brazzy on Oct 21, 2016 19:59:14 GMT 1, I think you are very mistaken. I'm not sure you completely understand how an open edition works. They might make more, they might not, we'll see. It's definitely not an absolute. They're not making anymore of that Faile open edition that got released last year and sold out in a couple of days. I personally think the only restock will be of the black BFF plush toys in the modern giftshop. I think this sale was mostly to reward the modern for hosting a huge Kaws retrospective for 3 months. He's hooking them up and I'm sure making a pretty penny himself. the black BFF plushes may be restocked from the remaining stock they have but they will definitely not be produced again. all the BFF plushes, both the black and the blue version are limited edition and are each individually numbered. yeah, but didn't they only release like 500 of 3k yesterday. wasn't saying at all that i thought they would produce more, just that they might restock from the 2500 remaining.

They eventually stopped making the past iphone models. And they will stop making these Kaws figures as well. Usually when galleries/shops/websites stop ordering them. But they aren't going to stop making them or shipping them (if they are already made) right after they released and sold out in a few days. The parking lot camping, long lines, multiple hour waits and selling out in a day are all marketing tactics that build interest and create free PR. It's a social media frenzy. By creating an open edition and making it accessible to everyone, he is broadening his fan base. Believe it or not, there are people who will spend $200 on artwork because they like it. Not because it will be worth more in the future. I think its great that Kaws is doing an open edition for his fans. I hope everyone gets one! The fact is nobody knows when they will stop production. But who am I to stop the hype train for all the flipper's out there trying to convince everyone that they won't get one. In regards to Faile I personally wouldn't put him and Kaws in the same camp. Hey man, I sincerely hope that you are correct in your speculation and many more of these are made available in the next couple of months while this exhibition is still going. I hate flippers as much as anyone and I would love to be able to pick up the rest of the set without hassle.

Kaws @ the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, by brazzy on Oct 21, 2016 15:04:09 GMT 1, People stood in line for the iPhone 7. Then they announced it sold out. Then they made more. Then they sold out again. They make more, They sell out. A month from now they will be available in every store without a waiting period or a line. They might even go on sale. That's how open edition works. These KAWS figures are no different then the Star Wars figures at your local Toys R Us. The more you buy the more they'll make. Why do an open edition? Why not? Star Wars figures from the 70s were open editions they are still worth more money now then before. It will be years instead of days for the $ increase. Sorry flippers, I think you are very mistaken. Kaws @ the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, by brazzy on Oct 20, 2016 22:11:09 GMT 1, from Kaws' Instagram: "Thanks everyone who showed up this morning for the opening of the show and those interested in the products we released. As you can imagine the staff at the @themodernfw shop were a little overwhelmed and the online servers crashed from traffic as well. We appreciate your patience and hope to restock some items and get things up and running. I appreciate your enthusiasm and your patience! I also want to thank the museum staff who have been amazing and dedicated to making this go as smooth as possible under the given conditions!"
I wonder if that was it for the companions

Kaws @ the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, by brazzy on Oct 20, 2016 17:53:40 GMT 1, It's funny that people are still treating this like a regular limited Kaws drop. While the kind people at the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth were clearly not. open editions can/do sell out. Maybe people don't want to take a chance on missing out?
