NFT Art , by artylang on Nov 4, 2021 16:30:23 GMT 1, Besides John's work my other focus is on generative art. Art that is created using an algorithm written by an artist in code. A lot of it is shit, too. Just rehashed canonized minimalism made with code instead of a brush. That said, there is gold in them there hills, too.
A few of my favorites are: Casey Reas: co-created processing. A programming language that nearly every artist that works in code uses today to make work
Alexis Andre: His project 720 minutes on the Artblocks platform to me is one of the more interesting applications for a generative nft. He wrote an algorithm to create 720 unique clocks. One for each minute in a 12 hour cycle. Each "clock" is given a designated minute where for 60 seconds the owner is presented with a light show. My wife and I use it as a moment to connect. As someone who loves time as a theme in art, this ticks all the boxes for me. Aesthetic beauty and conceptual depth. www.artblocks.io/project/27
Frederick Vanhoutte: Creates futuristic cityscapes using custom made software and algorithms. His work is instantly recognizable as his own and even with his job as a physics phd working in a hospital specializing in radiation he is pushing his practice on nearly a daily basis. objkt.com/profile/tz1TSWEDs9wcBx2KiRzVzyzECsNpRiZaLJ1D/creations?page=8 these are massive images and really benefit from zooming in.
This is just the tip of the ice berg.
Algorithmically generated art is really interesting to me.
I never believed this would be me, but here we are. I put a new work on my kitchen tv everyday like a rotating canvas. After almost a year in this space I cant see myself buying physical art ever again.

NFT Art , by artylang on Nov 4, 2021 16:17:36 GMT 1, Current form? What change are you looking forward to that you don't see at present?Nfts are the most efficient and equitable method to distribute culture that has ever existed. Is 90% of what's being pumped out there trash? Absolutely. Is this forum any different?... is any art movement? I've been on here in some form since 2006. Banksy was what pushed me into my love for art and art history. I can say without a doubt that my deep dive since early this year into digital art, generative (code based) art, and nfts has been the most exciting and energizing experience I have had since beginning here. I will also co-sign on John Karel as the guy who will carry the torch of a generation in the way banksy has. To me, besides nostalgia, the saccharine appearance of many of his works belie a critical opinion of society and the direction we may be headed in a way I think Keith Haring and Warhol did, only with the sensibilities of someone like Norman Rockwell. If John Karel is the guy who will carry the torch of a generation, boy I feel sorry for that generation. Jesus, it's a gaudy awful animated giF s that wouldn't even make it into Thinkspace gallery if these were made with paint.
Can someone point us to the 10% of nfts that aren't trash? 5%? 1% Anyone?
this is how i feel about banksy. To me, John is like Banksy without the crutch sjw politics (which I mostly agree with fwiw).

NFT Art , by artylang on Nov 4, 2021 14:11:36 GMT 1, Quoting this so I can reference it down the line. Thank you for the ridicule! No problem. One man's pleasure is another man's torture.ย NFTs may eventually be the future of art, but not in their current form. For now I'm taking a huge swerve.ย

Tauba Auerbach etchings , by artylang on Oct 24, 2021 17:45:44 GMT 1, $3500 each shipped within the USA. Matching #s
"I created three plates. And these three pigment primaries are like the process primaries used for printing โcyan, magenta, and yellow. And on each plate thereโs a random pattern of colored squares and blank squares, and they overlap at varous probabilities to create seven possible colorsโor eight if you include the white. So, the three primaries, the three secondaries, and then a seventh color where all three overlap, and then the white where none overlap." Tauba Auerbach
So if Iโm reading that right, each plate could be printed with any of the three colors. The plates x inks would generate a the number of permutationsโthough itโd be doubled if the top and bottom of the rectangular plates are reversed.
As Iโm typing this, it sounds like a Sol Lewitt, too, an early, exhaustive Lewitt serialization made in the mature Lewittโs palette. But there are at least 84 possible combinations for each printโif the top/bottom of each plate donโt matter, there are 816โand Auerbachโs edition size is only 30. Sounds like introducing a bit of randomness into the process was plenty. Iโm sure her printers were relieved.

Kenny Schachter's Cryptomutts NFT , by artylang on Oct 5, 2021 16:20:08 GMT 1, Kenny seems extremely committed to making this into something. Its actually really refreshing to see in the space. He has even given out his phone number to anyone that wants to talk or give suggestions.

To flip or not to flip, this is the flip, by artylang on Jun 28, 2021 21:15:12 GMT 1, sounds like you are looking for www.hicetnunc.xyz/ a place where artists support each other along with collectors. Where art isnt overpriced by rich kids whos dad gave them a gallery. Where artists are paid a royalty on secondary sales forever. HEN is what the art world was meant to be, an ongoing conversation between creatives. Who , Me ? It's a conspiration tonite , why ?
I Never look TV and as your mate upside, I don't understand anything. So I pass.
i understood none of that but sounds like youre having a good time mate

Richard Hambleton ๐จ๐ฆ Artist Discussion , by artylang on Jun 15, 2021 20:21:16 GMT 1, Would you have any details of Richard Hambledon's estate? I've previously searched but wasn't able to locate a website. It interested me to find out who exactly manages the estate, and if those individuals include actual family members. A couple of years ago, I asked a gallery about this (one that was selling Hambledon originals and posthumous releases of multiples). The woman I spoke with said she didn't know. But she also sounded rather evasive. As far as I'm aware, Hambledon had no children. With him being born in 1952, I suspect it's unlikely that his parents are still alive. What I have no clue about is whether he has any living siblings. Moreover, Hambledon didn't strike me as being the kind of person who would necessarily have arranged for a valid will to be executed. [In a scenario where an important artist has no heirs and no will, query whether, following their death, it would be possible for an estate in their name to be surreptitiously set up by opportunistic dealers.]Hi Met, Just waited on an email back to clarify bits for you. Please see below from an email I just got. Should answer most Qโs whether itโs what people want to hear is another matter! Andy Valborbida, a well-known art dealer and collector, runs Richardโs estate and he owns the licence of his โbrandโ via his company โUntitled-1โ (youโll the company stamp on the pieces). He was one of the very first people who started the global movement to bring Richardโs name back to its rightful place. He and Vladimir Roitflield โadoptedโ Richard back in 2009. Since then, Andy collected as many of his paintings in existence as possible in order to exhibit them around the world. Valmorbida and Roitflield reintroduced Richardโs work to the world in 2009 with a big sponsorship by Giorgio Armani, who loves Richardโs art and supported his first show in over 20 years! A series of exhibitions followed the Armani show. The last years of Richardโs life were very difficult and he isolated himself from everyone, including Andy. After his death, the estate passed to his only living sister. Andy Valmorbida, being so passionate about Richard and his art, purchased the estate and all the rights from her. This way, he could continue to promote and support Richardโs amazing legacy. Andy trusted us with this program, knowing that we will treat Richardโs name and art with the due respect he deserves. We, Castle Fine Art, produced the silkscreen prints here in the UK. I hope this helps! i remember when they re-titled pieces to erase their auction histories. wild times.
