George Condo 🇺🇸 New Print Release • Print For Sale, by JW on Mar 22, 2024 16:13:15 GMT 1, Has anyone had any issues buying float mounted pieces from Avant Arte, I'm wondering if they ever get knocked loose during shipping? I've ordered one float mounted piece from them (shipping to London) and there were no issues at all.

For Sale Banksy, Invader, Warhol, Hirst, by JW on Mar 9, 2024 23:54:03 GMT 1, I always appreciate people taking time to offer and never take offence to someone looking to get a good deal, In most circumstances offering 10% below ask is pretty standard, however on this one I could have sold it 4x over today at £45k. I’ve priced it to be cheapest on the open market and in line if not slightly below the average of last few at auction, so I’m pretty confident I’ll get my price hence why I’ve set it as firm. If you priced it at £5k, someone would have offered £0k.

Paul Insect Clockwork Britain print For Sale£1250 SOLD, by JW on Mar 1, 2024 15:00:43 GMT 1, West Chelsea Contemporary and I also have the direct message with Paul Insect confirming this piece and his dedication to a well known person on the rear of the canvas. Ok cool. So it's a COA issued by the gallery that sold it, not the artist (or the gallery that originally sold them).
Not saying that's an issue, I was just curious as I have a canvas from a different edition and it didn't come with a COA. Many people out there seem to think every single piece of art comes with one issued by the artist...

Anish Kapoor 🇮🇳 Sculpture • Exhibition News, by JW on Dec 18, 2023 11:31:47 GMT 1, What “bad old days” are you speaking of? The first group of buyers bought a vase which was never delivered. To launch a product then change course mid production/drop when people have already paid is unscrupulous. Jesus H Christ, you're a dramatic little petal aren't you?

New Banksy in London , by JW on Oct 9, 2023 18:00:36 GMT 1, For me it's not necessarily the execution that creates doubt in my mind - like the Orange Order Rat something is just off with its message and timing.
Purely gut feel. I have been wrong before.

New Banksy in London , by JW on Oct 8, 2023 20:42:20 GMT 1, It's a no from me.
Bland message and it would be really strange timing given what is going on in the world right now.

BBC Interview Steph Warren (POW) about Banksy, by JW on Jul 21, 2023 10:17:00 GMT 1, why should PC give a new COA for a change of ownership? Don't think anyone is saying they "should". Their T&Cs say they do:
48.If the work is found to be genuine PCO will swap the old form COA for a new form COA for no additional charge.

I've been waiting 20 months for one change of ownership, and 16 months for another...

Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by JW on Jul 7, 2023 13:07:09 GMT 1, Really confused about the reaction to the update.
People originally complained that it was orange, now people are complaining that it's not?
Interested to see whether it's those who actually bought that are disappointed or mainly those who missed out...
I liked the first version and bought it right after leaving the exhibition (first Saturday). But I honestly like the new version even more. Would maybe prefer it to be frosted but do prefe the deep cherry red more than the orange.
Happy either way.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by JW on Jun 24, 2023 9:18:08 GMT 1, I had a look at some of the eBay listings for items from the exhibition and I was amazed by the number of people selling Polaroids of themselves with their listings. I’ve got no issues with people selling items from the exhibition (plus receipts/tickets), but why would anyone really want a Polaroid of someone else? These items don’t need photographic provenance of the tw@t who couldn’t wait to sell on eBay. If anyone reading this thinks about selling their Polaroid, then do the world a favour and keep it as a memory instead. 😉 Agreed. Similar with the Dismaland Cinderella souvenir photos.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by JW on Jun 23, 2023 16:42:41 GMT 1, I'm still in the "no" camp on the Orange Order rat.
Not that I would take any joy in seeing met lose his bet, but would the "exhibition's publicists" be sufficiently in the know?
"The exhibition’s publicists later insisted neither this nor the smattering of other rats which have appeared then disappeared across the city centre were Banksys."

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by JW on Jun 23, 2023 10:26:56 GMT 1, Hi. Just wondering are there any exhibition tickets out there, for whatever reason, not going to be used this weekend. I'm over in Glasgow 24th/25th (another reason as totally missed this) and would love to go. Prob won't have the chance again. I need 2 tickets, any will do. Do you think this is a long shot. Have people got tickets from queuing to get the 9am allocation. Any help greatly appreciated. PM me if you have any tickets. Can go late in evening also. Thanks PM me your email address and you can have two free tickets for midday tomorrow (24th June).
I bought tickets across two weekends to hedge my bets but was able to attend last weekend.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by JW on Jun 21, 2023 19:30:47 GMT 1, The vest looks about as much like Stormzy's vest as the shredder girl looked like a 2006 😂 It's the prototype. He didn't like the blue as it seemed "too patriotic" - or something to that effect.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by JW on Jun 21, 2023 16:08:15 GMT 1, Good stencil, but a hard no for me.
Placement is lacking. Background is boring/uninteresting. Right near the exhibition where he talks about letting the background talk for itself. Topic seems a little too obvious and lacking humour. I don't feel it's his style to explicitly use the Sun as a reference, nor use very obvious lines/slogans like "God Save the King".
I've been wrong before though - ie the Valentine's Day girl with a slingshot.

Banksy Working from home - Instagram post, by JW on Jun 20, 2023 11:39:49 GMT 1, Hard to see what it is... my warped mind sees a couple of human faces and not another rat.
It should be noted that I didn't think the Valentine's Day piece was by Banksy so I am undoubtedly wrong! Aaaaand it looks like I'm reading into things that aren't there. The shot from banksy.co.uk is a bit clearer. Still no idea what it is. Having visited Cut & Run over the weekend, I can confirm that I was indeed not thinking straight during lockdown, and it was simply lace (like a curtain) in the mouse hole in Banksy's bathroom.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by JW on Jun 14, 2023 15:14:30 GMT 1, wow how on earth has rampage reached 18k? and the duck one? People are crazy and I am honestly laughing away here - some fingers will seriously be burnt To be fair, Rampage has outperformed for a while.
Albeit with fees included, it went for £17.5k back in 2021. onlineonly.christies.com/s/prints-multiples/david-shrigley-b-1968-73/115251
The duck surprised me though...

Pest Control COA • Banksy Print Authentication, by JW on May 15, 2023 12:12:25 GMT 1, A COA is a COA; it's just there to support authentication. It doesn't matter what format it is, just that it's a real COA. Any major auction house does its own verification direct with PC. That said, someone has to pay for the £45 + taxes transfer of ownership right? This is when PC issues a new version of the COA.
The auction house shouldn't have to pay it. Maybe it's just easier for them to push that cost onto the seller up-front rather than telling the eventual buyer after they've won it?
That said, my view is that the buyer should pay for it.
(Didn't see Terry's response before I posted)

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by JW on Apr 29, 2023 22:25:21 GMT 1, Probably less than 5 that I think look ok in this lot. So much purple and lime green...
Squares and blurs are immediately out for me. I went with a Comet, which strangely weren't popular with the NFT community but I felt they were truest to the originals.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by JW on Apr 18, 2023 8:21:10 GMT 1, Seems i missed it, but where was it stated that the NFT has no utility? In the FAQ:
Do The Beautiful Paintings NFTs offer any extra perks and utility?
The NFTs are digital artworks and, like the physical artworks, do not offer any additional utility other than being artworks in and of themselves.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by JW on Apr 17, 2023 20:29:52 GMT 1, Or maybe they took it because it looked the best? There's a novel idea. Honnestly, they where thé best looking one that’s right. But i cannot help thinking that chosing this one at this price was also a kind of gamble. And thé gamble part of this choice failed Only if you're looking to sell it.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by JW on Apr 12, 2023 8:10:26 GMT 1, Which is why he let his customers deal with the tedious design processClever man he is. Heni have confirmed every single spin created will be catalogued and able to view online - similar to the Currency pieces. I imagine they will add attributes and if there is money to be made Hirst will release a book. Each spin will have a sticker on the back with further provence details too. Although I find The Beautiful Paintings to be of little interest as works of art, I am curious about one aspect: 1. Artistic concept by Damien Hi rst. 2. Configuration and variables-selection by the relevant collector, using a generative algorithm (created by Hi rst and HE NI) which, itself, incorporates elements of randomness. 3. The printed physical artwork handsigned by Hi rst. Under these circumstances, query who owns the copyright for each piece. Is Hi rst definitely the sole copyright owner, with the relevant collector perhaps taking on a status akin to that of a studio assistant? Or could it instead be argued that the intellectual property would actually be shared with the collector? The latter might then have a say about the publication and distribution of images of their piece. For example, whether they consent to the work being catalogued and posted on HE NI's website. Or, at a possible future date, whether to release a giclée print edition based on their original giclée canvas. It's an interesting question. I'm not a lawyer, but their T&Cs do cover IP for “Generative Artwork” where the artist who who "created the parameters" of is the sole author and owner.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by JW on Apr 8, 2023 11:56:52 GMT 1, I think I’ll go for one large based on the input from some of you. For those that went, by chance did you see how the black looked? I like these two and will likely go with one of them; they would compliment an artwork I already own really well. I’m concerned that the black won’t look good. Black looked fine to my eyes. It was actually the white that I didn't love. It may have just been the examples in the gallery, but those with white looked a bit cheaper as it was more obvious that they were printed. Again, only my view.
