Albert willem prices?, by kfroms on Apr 20, 2024 14:51:14 GMT 1, I can’t deny Schadenfreude for everyone who gets burnt by buying “hot” art to flip it. 5 digits or more for these Albert Willem paintings? Seriously? How gullible can one be?
Anyway, it will happen again. :-)

Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on Apr 17, 2024 20:26:06 GMT 1, Good for you so ( because of me ahah - you did not know it ? ). What is your secret ? You ordered directly from the editor ? You are searching as Astarti by ISBN ? Never heard about this one ( first edition ? ) with a cd … i bought the cd 6 £ on Discogs .. No, not using any ISBN. I happen to know a guy who knows a guy :-) I think that my cd is different than the one that was on Discogs. This one is from the exhibition in Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 2010. It has Moderna Museet written on it. Yours too? I bought the book at the Hayward Gallery during the exhibition and there was definitely no CD included.

Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on Apr 9, 2024 9:45:05 GMT 1, Those are two great books ( and looks like you got a good deal on them , Lroy ) I have seen the Ruscha exhibition back in 2010 which was fantastic. Surprised to see how expensive the catalogue has become.
If you are in London tomorrow:
The massive Georg Baselitz Exhibition is opening at White Cube Bermondsey. German Bratwurst and Beer will be served from 6pm. No RSVP needed. Unfortunately I wont be in town….

New Tracey Emin prints, by kfroms on Mar 26, 2024 16:25:56 GMT 1, Gone up from 11k to 14k in the last hour. I guess the price is OK, if you consider that some of the single prints are at that price (at their upper tiers). But so many similar looking prints! Not followed this one but isnt 14k first tier? Got an email last week and think they were 11.2k after the 20% discount.

Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by kfroms on Mar 26, 2024 12:41:55 GMT 1, Which of their timed editions haven't been signed? Terrible image, not sure what AA or Ruscha's studio were thinking 😂 We will do some more explaining on the importance of this artwork soon on our website. When I first learned about Ed his work I was probably also more drawn to the mountain works but when you dive really deep into his work and also have seen the show at the Moma you start to realize the importance of some of the early works like OOF and Spam. Anyway anyone is free to have their own opinions of course and should buy what they like/love.. the take away from this thread is that OOF bests SPAM but luckily there is the wonderful option to just not buy it. Good luck with the drop, I happen to like the Spam.

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by kfroms on Mar 25, 2024 13:51:13 GMT 1, I am off to Berlin tomorrow to see Underworld play at Velodrom. How was the show? Not seen UW for about 15 years, need to work on that.
And today,I'm listening to this rework of the classic track 'yeke yeke'. Paul Dakyne has done a great job, keeping the faith to the Hardfloor 303 lines, but dropping a lot more vocal from the Mory Kante original into it. Bone fide banger; turn it up.
The show was absolutely fantastic- solid in the top 3 ever Underworld gigs ( and I attend a lot of those ) Velodrome Berlin is an epic and perfect venue, Underworld were clearly in a great mood and the concertgoers were very euphoric ( the relaxed attitude towards recreational drugs in Berlin certainly helped to bring back the old school rave feeling ) sound and visuals were top notch, as usual.
Curious how the gig in Alexandra Palace will be..
Go see them it you can.

New Tracey Emin prints, by kfroms on Mar 20, 2024 22:33:34 GMT 1, Got excited when announced but felt a bit deflated when I saw that that it is more portraits. There is one I like but judging by the size they will be top dollar and therefore I will most likely pass ( again ) I have a lot of TE so no real need anyway ( unless it would be something “new” )

Recommended Art Books, by kfroms on Mar 15, 2024 9:33:40 GMT 1, Thrift store find of the week: A wrapped copy of the beautiful Cy Twombly exhibition at Gagosian in Beverly Hills and New York. 20GBP but still available at their web store for 100 USD I sometimes really wonder how these things end up on a shelf in a Mary’s living and giving.

Damien Hirst - The Light That Shines, by kfroms on Mar 11, 2024 18:03:48 GMT 1, I feel like Hirst has a lot of confidence in his market right now. Either that or he owes someone somewhere a lot of money. Definitely confidence - looks like you have to apply and only once you get selected you will be told the price of the piece. Yes, there are reference points from the last drop but this is still a weird and complicated way of doing it.

Damien Hirst - The Light That Shines, by kfroms on Mar 11, 2024 13:56:53 GMT 1, I like a few of the orange Empresses and they also reiterate how “vanilla” the red ones are. Those Cosmos paintings look like a mess to me but I am sure they will be popular.
Prices from 100k USD for the small CO painings?

More heat on Pest Control and Bankdy, by kfroms on Mar 11, 2024 9:21:24 GMT 1, There's a good reason the Warhol, Lichtenstein, Basquiat and Haring authentication boards were disbanded, it's inevitable the same will happen for Pest Control, it's when not if. The reality is the market for these artists has moved forward without issue, the same will happen with Banksy. I thought it would take 10-20 years with Banksy but based on recent events could happen in the next 1-2 years. I imagine it's become a huge pain in the ass for him and he'll probably fuck off the authentication sooner than most people think. I own and have bought hundreds of secondary works without COAs and never had an isssue because there are other ways to authenticate pieces. As things stand in my view the market may function better if they just shut up shop and focussed on the marketing, PR and carrying out sales. Agree - there will be a point when the pressure / risk / cost will be too high and they will close shop for good.
a very good read regarding the topic of authenticity and the dirty stuff happening while at it:
Warhol After Warhol: Power and Money in the Modern Art World amzn.eu/d/40L3esm
Long-time art critic Richard Dorment reveals the corruption and lies of the art world and its mystifying authentication process.
Late one afternoon in the winter of 2003 art critic Richard Dorment answered a telephone call from a stranger. The caller was Joe Simon, an American film producer and art collector. He was ringing at the suggestion of David Hockney, his neighbour in Malibu. A committee of experts called the Andy Warhol Art Authentication Board had declared the two Warhols in his collection to be fake. He wanted to know why and thought Dorment could help.
This call would mark the beginning of an extraordinary story that would play out over the next ten years and would involve a cast of characters straight out of fiction. From rock icons and film stars; art dealers and art forgers; to a murdered Russian oligarch and a lawyer for the mob; from courtrooms to auction houses: all took part in a bitter struggle to prove the authenticity of a series of paintings by the most famous American artist of the twentieth century.

More heat on Pest Control and Bankdy, by kfroms on Mar 10, 2024 15:02:06 GMT 1, I guess one of the problems with staffing PC is finding people you can trust with all the cloak and dagger goings on as well as keeping schtum on rare and never seen in public originals and gifted works Hire some professionals and pay them properly?! Galleries and big auction houses are very good at keeping client information “secret”, PC should be able to do the same.

More heat on Pest Control and Bankdy, by kfroms on Mar 10, 2024 12:29:47 GMT 1, very much doubt the story contains enough to warrant comment. pc will continue in it's current form - for the forseeable - regardless of what i think. people need to see it for what it is - it's an org trying to help people , whilst that might be interpreted as obstructive it does not control all of those who have bought works in the past whom it may have to depend on for... updates in the event of a owner change etc. perhaps the above as a concept is ... impossible for many to grasp. hey ... it could be a whole lot worse. if they for example simply shut up shop - have a think about that... what could / would be the impact. .. ok - had a think ... ? now put the kettle on and chill out. ffs .. Nope. The issue is that PC accepted money in exchange for a service. That service is still pending after three years, hence the legal route. Its a very “normal” legal case, what the service is doesn’t play a role at all.
this is the crucial bit:
He said, addressing Pest Control: “‘You’ve had the work; you’ve inspected it. Is it right or is it wrong? That’s the service that you claim to provide. If it’s wrong, that’s OK, because we will have a claim on the estate the piece was bought from. If it’s right, great. Just give us the paperwork we need to validate it.’ They’re not providing a proper service.”
