Jordi Alós, Mexican Artist, by Vroom & Varossieau on Apr 23, 2023 14:19:23 GMT 1,
Vroom & Varossieau is pleased to present Machangos, showcasing new works by Mexican artist Jordi Alós marking the artist’s first solo show in Europe. The exhibition features large-sized paintings depicting habits, daily life scenes and street performers in a playful, humorous and visually brilliant composition; and a new series of colourful and vibrant Machangos portraits. The word Machangos has been strongly used in the Canary Islands to define, in a funny although disqualifying tone, someone as an eccentric person or a clown. Hence Jordi adopted this peculiar word. They come to life in 2015, he picked up this series recently again and since then Machangos are gaining even more strength. The artist often combines their features with real-life subjects, creating a unique world of his own that is a paradox: at once cheerful and irritating, simultaneously familiar and strange. Shaped by a vigorous and energetic gesture, Alòs’ colourful and naive characters maintain an element of likeable ambiguity, encouraging viewers to question whether or not to trust their enigmatic and sly smiles. About his practice, the artist has recently stated: “l am strongly interested in revealing different layers of the same personality, often inaudibly. Through my work, I try to make this condition visible, with the aim of rethinking contemporary coexistence”. With references to both art brut and realism, Alós’ work focuses on the human being, his nature and social life. In this exhibition the artist invites us to a colourful and multilayered world in which he explores the connection between humans and the environment, daily-life scenarios, a mixture of fiction and reality, in a way in which he wants to question and rethink our relationship with the other and our surroundings.
About the artist Jordi Alós (1993, Mexico City) lives and works in Mexico City. He has exhibited his work as part of group shows in London, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Mexico City. The solo exhibition Machangos with Vroom & Varossieau gallery marks the debut show of Jordi Alós in Europe. Alós studied advertising and design at the Institute of Marketing and Advertising in Mexico City, where he discovered that the limits of "what can be" and "has to be" gave space for human expression. His work is influenced from both realism and art brut. Alós himself refers to his practice as art brut, a term used to catalog the works that go beyond the epistemological plat-form of modernity. He gashes the bubble of reality with gestural brushstrokes, using acid colours to depict his cartoonish personas with big eyes. Drawing inspiration from his own surroundings, movies, music and his personal life, Alós investigates the contemporary society with its symbols, conflicts and tragicomic habits. Works of Jordi are in private collections in Dubai, Holland, USA, UK, Mexico, Spain and Switzerland.
“Machangos” a solo show by Jordi Alós Opening: 14 May 2pm - 6pm 14 May - 18 June 2023 Vroom & Varossieau Draaibank 10 1505 RN Zaandam gallery@vroomandvarossieau.com +31(0)628859359
About the gallery Established in 2008 by Isabelle Vroom and Olivier Varossieau, Vroom & Varossieau is an international art gallery that specialises in contemporary art, old-school graffiti and emerging art. Vroom & Varossieau quickly gained recognition in the art scene with their collection of secondary market works as well as their representation of artists. At the conception, the focus of Vroom & Varossieau was on street art, with names such as Banksy and Futura dominating the collection at the gallery. Throughout the years this focus has shifted towards contemporary art and emerging artists, with street art and urban art still at the base of their vision. Vroom & Varossieau works together with a wide variety of established artists, as well as talented artists that have yet to create a name within the art world. Their collection spans from the street art veterans (e.g. Richard Hambleton, Futura, Banksy, Blade, Kenny Scharf) to the young talents of today. This varied portfolio shows the open mindset of the gallery: you do not have to be perceived as a great artist to be a great artist. Vroom & Varossieau always has its eyes on the future and receives the fresh minds of emerging talent with open arms. This
allows the gallery to lead the curve and act as trendsetters within the ever- changing art world, rather than waiting until it is accepted by the mainstream.
Vroom & Varossieau has also established quite a name within the art scene as refined art commissioners, with a fine portfolio of murals and restaurant interiors under their name. This is where creative placemaking comes to the surface, a process that allows for a more direct and expressive relationship between the audience (or client) and the artist. This process reflects perfectly in Vroom & Varossieau’s principles. Vroom & Varossieau helps in public art projects that link the community to different features of art-making processes, while it also aims to create a sense of property and pride over public spaces which the community itself can share with the artists. Another service that Vroom & Varossieau provides is advising private collectors in buying and selling works of art (private sales). After being active in the art world for several decades, Vroom & Varossieau has gained an exquisite understanding of the value of artworks and how to acquire certain pieces of art. Therefore, Vroom & Varossieau is more than glad to help in this process and share their experience and knowledge with the world. The gallery is situated in Zaandam, The Netherlands, but its scope reaches far beyond that. Vroom & Varossieau is present at global art fairs such as Art Miami, Urban Art Fair Paris, The Moniker Art Fair London, Art Rotterdam, Art Antwerp and various other world-renowned fairs. Their international scope allows Vroom & Varossieau Gallery to be placed among the leading galleries in the street art scene as well as the contemporary art world.

Jordi Alós, Mexican Artist, by Vroom & Varossieau on Feb 15, 2023 16:22:04 GMT 1,
Jordi Alós(1993) is a Mexican artist who works from his studio in Mexico city. He studied advertising and design at the Institute of Marketing and Advertising, where he discovered that the limits of "what can be" and "has to be" gave space for human expression. His works exist in the realm of both realism and art brut, and oftentimes Jordi combines elements from both worlds in his works.
Jordi himself refers to his works as art brut, a term used to catalog the works that go beyond the epistemological plat- form of modernity. More precisely, it is the term that arises to name the works of those producers who are not governed by logos but rather by the body, in other words, producers with mental illnesses. Although the artist has a healthy mind, his art is congenial to art brut at the time that both exist only when the body is placed over reason, as humans did in the period of the emergence of art.
Works of Jordi are in private collections in Dubai, Holland, USA, Mexico, Edinburgh, Spain and Switzerland.

DAVID BRUCE Infinity Banana Glazed ceramic, 2022 30 x 15 cm € 3.250,00
David Bruce (1977) is a visual artist from Paris working from his studio in Liege. He discovered graffiti at the age of 14 while commuting to different basketball courts to play with other kids. On the trains he would then see silver-coloured graffiti pieces and get inspired by these moving artworks. His first works were on the train tracks, but he wanted to see his works "traveling", and so he started spraying the trains himself. "Graffiti pieces on trains are spontaneous and fast." There is only a small amount of time before the train starts moving again, so the graffiti artists have to use only a few cans at a fast pace while still making a visual impact. It is like a sport, which reflects in his visual references of various sports balls. His graffiti style carries over in David Bruce's studio works, where David combines acrylics and oils with his trademark spray cans. Together this creates a flat, playful style that is colorfull and pleasing to the eye. Since 2022, David has been an artist in residence at Nike, while simultaneously shown in various cities throughout Europe. While his work translates well to murals and streetwear, the beauty is truly emphasised by the canvases. David Bruce has also e x p l o r e d o t h e r m e d i um s i n c l u d i n g sculptures, showing the creative versatility of him as an artist.

It’s always great to talk to the man who had the great vision of shining a bigger light on the graffiti artists and bringing the first artists over from NYC to Amsterdam. Putting them from the limelight into the spot light. Which changed the course of graffiti and founded the base for many international collectors who understand the importance of graffiti. Thank you for coming by again Yaki.

Heni x Invader 'Rubikcubism', by Vroom & Varossieau on Feb 5, 2023 15:56:20 GMT 1, There is a significant difference between diasec and cheaper versions of dibond. The process might be the same. Only Diasec has the highest quality. Most museums prefer diasec too. Simply because the chance of color fading by light, is a bit smaller. Simply said diasec has better uv filtering.

The work “Secret Path 1” is a tribute to secret paths that lead to freedom, starting from his own experience back in the 90s.
Three glass sculptures represent Egs and his friends, walking along furtive passages in South London, to paint graffiti; the purple moon refers to the City painted with vintage leather Dye, a popular product in UK during the Nineties.
Egs got one while visiting London in 1993 and found it again in his studio, almost thirty years later.

On the occasion of Art Rotterdam, Vroom & Varossieau gallery is pleased to present recent works by Finnish artist EGS (Helsinki, 1974). EGS’s solo exhibition with the gallery, showcases the latest work of the interdisciplinary artist.
In this exhibition, EGS’s paintings, installations and glass sculptures conduct us through an exploration of society, graffiti and everyday life. Since the beginning of his career as graffiti writer, and while still active in the scene, the artist has transposed in three letters different topics from the collapse of the USSR and the recomposition of Europe, the investigation of ruins and the notion of impermanence.
The show presents recent geographical maps, The Last Clouds that are both an abstracted version of the world map and a reflection on the europeans conquering “new” continents, dividing them with pen and ruler. Each ruler creates countries and conflicts that never existed before.
The new series of paintings Armada of Aliases, investigates the struggles and the difficulties that come with being accepted as immigrant: the shapes remind boats, perhaps overcrowded with people ready to start a different life under new aliases. The work can be also interpreted as an armada of tags, ready to travel in any city. Entering Schengen and The Buffed Borders are works that scrutinise the concept of political boundary and its conflicts, with a strong reference to the Schengen. The International Penpals are deeply influenced by the calligraphic essence of graffiti, in which the black line is predominant. Through the use of a syringe as preferred tool to draw, the result is simultaneously vibrant and sophisticated.
The installations Secret Path 1 and Growing Up In The City relate to personal experiences of EGS and his time spent in backstage environments, dark alleys where the art of graffiti is often created. The exhibition also displays several hand-blown glass sculptures crafted in historic workshops in Finland. These sculptures are always arranged in groups of three. They represent the E, G, S and endorse the artist to reshape his tag, explore new materials and tell stories with three letters. Trough this malleability of letters and signs, EGS aims to underline the possibility of language to transform, change in new scenarios and potential forms, while at the same time deconstructing the initial context and its layers.
About the artist EGS (1974, Helsinki) is a self-proclaimed graffiti anthropologist, he has been pivotal in the historical research and dissemination of the graffiti practice itself: an artist - archivist spurred by an intense desire to explore both the formal and folkloric truths of graffiti, to uncover its deeply social and material foundations. While EGS’ output is becoming increasingly abstract, his ongoing illicit work has resulted from a long and intense study of the graffiti form, in which he has juxtaposed the different eras that he loves through his collagist style. He started out in
the mid 1980s as part of the first wave of graffiti in Finland; by 1988 he had travelled to Stockholm and Paris to discover and document their burgeoning scenes. Although he lived in one of the most geographically distant parts of Europe, EGS was fascinated by the regional connections graffiti generated and travel became integral to his life. His inquisitive interest in these different aspects of regional graffiti led him to form close links in France, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and England by the early 1990s. The bonds he formed through this collaborative global work are therefore as much a part of his personal practice as the homages he makes to graffiti folklore, as he puts it, through every ‘wave, star, drip or block’ he paints. Travelling the globe to both paint and investigate, to build relationships and share knowledge with other diverse practitioners, he has developed an almost unmatched insight into the vast graffiti culture worldwide. His work shows an acute understanding of the endlessly manipulable possibilities of the alphabet, as well as the various movements, styles and traditions of graffiti itself.

Vroom & Varossieau Art Rotterdam 2023 - Booth 80 Opening: 8 February, 12pm - 8pm Date: 9 - 12 February, 11am - 7pm Address: Van Nelle Fabriek, Van Nelleweg 1 3044 BC Rotterdam

FAILE // ENDLESS , by Vroom & Varossieau on Dec 30, 2021 22:35:47 GMT 1, During Art Week in Miami FAILE had a great solo exhibition in Wynwood Walls Gallery. I must say I have seen and sold many of their works. And have seen some of their exhibitions live and some online.
But this exhibition was absolutely rocking! Their new body of work has so much energy. Some are really oldschool and some have a new style of collage. But I’m this whole collection there were atleast 6/7 works I would love to put in our own collection which is a lot from a solo show.
I know some people are critical, quess they have different taste. But the quality of the works is top!
Herewith some imagery. Please enjoy.
