Insight into a Screen Printing process , by Zanda on Aug 26, 2015 21:49:13 GMT 1, Hi, I've been working on a new screen printed edition of my artwork, and I want to be transparent about what I find at least a very interesting and exiting process.
I've called the title Insight into A screen print process, because there is more than one way to skin a rabbit.
Partly my inspiration for starting this was from looking at EB's excellent thread. There were parts of his process that were missed, which is entirely understandable. When you're screen printing, often speed is of the essence, before paints dry etc which leaves precious little time to comfortably document what is happening.
However I have tried my best to do this, by having a camera on standby near to my working area. So even though some of the pictures may not be of the greatest quality, they should at least demonstrate aspects of my screen printing method.
The artwork is called Barcode Fish and it is about commodification of life. So before I begin to show the steps involved in making the printed edition I will show a picture of what the stencil looks like on a wall.

Bone Dry screen print + free giveaway , by Zanda on Mar 31, 2015 10:11:30 GMT 1, Hi, just to clarify, it is one of the edition of 50 which is a 5 colour screen print that is the prize. The diamond dust version (created as an edition of 10) is not in the raffle. Mainly because I can't easily put them in a tube otherwise I would. I'm just concerned that some dust could come free if rolled.

Bone Dry screen print + free giveaway , by Zanda on Mar 29, 2015 11:06:22 GMT 1, The sparkling effect of the diamond dust is quite tricky to capture in a photo as it generally twinkles as you or it moves. In this photo you can get a sense of the thickness of the dust. This one is now framed.

Bone Dry screen print + free giveaway , by Zanda on Mar 28, 2015 22:42:13 GMT 1, Hi, I've created this artwork as an exploration of fame and celebrity.
Available here zandashop.bigcartel.com/product/bone-dry
I also had a bit of fun with some diamond dust, where her bones have had the sparkly treatment. I think these have come up particularly well. If you'd like one of the dd edition of 10 then please pm me.
So I thought I'd have a go at a giveaway raffle. Just leave a comment or even just an emoticon in the thread and you're entered to win one of the prints from the Bone Dry release. I'm going to be picking the winner randomly (suggestions welcome as to how I do this) at 7:00 pm next Sunday, April 5th. Then I will announce the winner shortly after. Zanda
Bone Dry Five colour screen print Size: 40 x 40 cms 300 gsm Fabriano paper Signed, stamped, numbered Edition of 50

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 26, 2015 19:02:14 GMT 1, Thanks you for all the support and suggestions as I don't think I would have pestered them like I did without it. Which I would like to add has finally paid off. Certain things suggest this thread might have been read by said party.
Anyway to be fair I should state that the gallery has now paid in full.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 23, 2015 17:17:38 GMT 1, She was prompt with me also when she wanted my artwork. But since she's got paid and it's time to pay me my cut, she won't even answer emails nor can I seem to get through to her by telephone. I'm basically being stonewalled.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 23, 2015 9:56:52 GMT 1, well I never did get that email letting me know what is happening with my payment. They're also still not replying to my emails. It's perfectly clear that Emily/Emma has no intention of paying me for my work that they happily sold.
They have revolving quotes on their homepage, and one from Gary Bushell which says, 'They are professional, courteous and always willing to offer help and advice in any art related query.'.
I think they must have paid him to say this, either that or he has no idea they're using his name.
They also still have work listed for sale that I am supposed to send out if someone buys it. They know I would not do that without ever being paid for previous work. This means that if you send these guys your money it's likely that you're not going to see the artwork / product you've paid for!

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 21, 2015 14:57:28 GMT 1, Increasingly I am in agreement with a lot of what is being said about not having anything to do with this gallery. They are not the sort of people I want to be dealing with. This gallery used to be quite successful a number of years back, and it is my understanding that the entire business, name and all were sold as a package. A large structure was in place but the experience and expertise to run it professionally were never there. I feel they maintain an impression of scale in order to try and get custom. I've already read on a previous thread involving them on here that much of the consignment work on their site is also advertised for sale in other places, some of it possibly already sold. I might be wrong but could it be the case they they are on their last legs and are simply getting whatever they can when they can and burning people along the way?

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 21, 2015 13:19:11 GMT 1, It was suggested by a few people on here to phone them, and that if I did so I would get all the answers. I did phone them and didn't really get any answers, just the usual line about the accounts dep.again.
I wouldn't like galleries in the art business to think I'm a difficult person to deal with because I think I've been more than accommodating and up to this point and still friendly towards them in the hope of an amicable outcome. It's annoying to think they're probably eating out (quite well I may add) on the back of my hard work and trust. I do wonder if any other galleries who might have followed this thread think of the situation and that the way this lot (or one person) seem to still be carrying on, and if at some point the time should come where I just simply say who they are so that other people don't get stung in the same way.
I posted this before I saw sw20's post. Don't worry about sounding critical, I'm grateful for all the input over this, and it's all been helpful in one way or another.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 21, 2015 12:28:38 GMT 1, I'm not sure if chasing the money up is my main problem here. I could even go to Gloucestershire knock on there door and ask them. I work as an artist and pay my taxes accordingly. All I wanted was an honest days pay for an honest days work, and I'm still struggling to both understand their position here, and also how I should react.
Rather bizarrely they still have some of my artwork on sale at a reasonable price. What if someone were to purchase another piece. Do they expect me to send it to them just like last time without hope of pay and so much time an energy wasted trying to chase it up. If I didn't send it to them would I be breaking my side of the original agreement? It's all very odd.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 21, 2015 10:21:49 GMT 1, In reply to sw20 when I did contact them 6 weeks after I had sent the artwork to them, the matter of the invoice came across as incidental, meaning they clearly had no or little intention to pay. It was because I pushed them that they responded with 'Please can you send us an invoice along with your address details so we can issue a cheque to you.'.
So I agree it is an important matter to do that, but surely if they were missing any details they ought to have asked for them prior to the expiration of 30 days so that they could meet their part of the deal. Not leave it until I pressed them 50+ days later.
As mentioned I did manage to get through to them/her yesterday by phone. It really did feel like I was getting fobbed off, but I would like to give them the benefit of doubt. She did not give an explanation as to why they've not paid me, or as to when they will, and whenever I asked a question she always just passes the buck to the account department, who were conveniently not there. However she did say she would make it a priority and send me an email today explaining when I will be paid.
So hopefully the team in the 'accounts department' are right now diligently processing my payment and will get back to her, who will then in turn email and offer me an apology and assurance as to when I will get my cheque. But somehow . . .

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 17:06:07 GMT 1, Tried phoning a few times. It rings but no answer. In response to SW20 I do have my own site, it's primitive but feel free to take a look
(p.s. much more important matters in the world so look away now rather than getting bored to tears)
so update: I phoned again and this time bingo she picked up the phone and was slightly surprised to hear it was me. She told me that the accounts dep. was not open right now (5:10) and that she'd give them a call tomorrow and make it priority. I'm a little surprised that they're not open during working hours yet are open on a Saturday. Still, I'm pleased to hear the voice. I asked when I will learn the outcome from the aforementioned accounts dep. (who seem to be a mysterious scape goat) and apparently she'll email tmw to let me know. Not much else I can do but wait, but to phone them was a good call.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 12:55:41 GMT 1, I think there is consensus that ringing them is the correct thing to do now, and perhaps I should have done it sooner. Just to repeat no one is calling anyone out so to speak, just looking for sound advice for which I think I have got.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 12:43:28 GMT 1, I would agree with some of what you said, and the moment I was asked for an invoice I promptly gave one to them. This was all done to their satisfaction. I've already said that I was perhaps being naive. Although I don't think it would of hurt them to mention that I need to write an invoice after they made a sale. They just seemed happy to have my artwork sent to them.
I also quite agree in that there is no need to be hot headed, I just said that can be in my nature so need to keep cool about it. Perhaps I should just let it go. I have not named and shamed and do not intend to, I came here for some advice. I think I will let the dust settle for now and phone them tomorrow. It's seems to be the right way forward. Thank you again for all the useful input.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 12:27:19 GMT 1, So I don't think it's malicious intent, and we are talking about relatively small amounts of money. But I feel that because I'm of such low priority that I have in fact been neglected, is that the word? As I know how much effort goes into producing these artworks, I really feel it is also a matter of principle as much as anything else. Especially as I was so efficient in honoring my part of the deal.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 12:14:53 GMT 1, Perhaps it is my naivety or optimism that no formal contract had been written. Just what seemed to be friendly and honest email communications (of which they were very good at until I asked for payment). At no point initially was I told that I would have to write an invoice. They just said that 'our payment to you is made 30 days from sale. As soon as you have confirmed and are happy with this I will upload the prints to our website.'.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 11:36:40 GMT 1, Thank you buckwurst, this seems like sound advice and a good understanding of my situation. It's not always obvious what to do, and it's so easy to become frustrated especially when emails are not even answered.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 11:34:33 GMT 1, I'm sure people would like to know, but there may still be some logical reason why nearly two months have passed and I still have no payment. I also wouldn't like to jeopardise my chances of getting what I am owed. To clarify about my Gold Frogs, which I recently made a post for, printcave who I work with are the official outlet for these and are not the problem. The gallery in question is someone different.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 11:28:50 GMT 1, I haven't tried posting on their facebook page as I'm not great at social media stuff, but I'm sure I'd be able to do that. It might be worth a try. They have a phone number which I suppose was going to be my next attempt to try and get some sort of explanation from them.

Gallery have not paid for a consignment sent, by Zanda on Mar 20, 2015 11:18:20 GMT 1, This is the situation. I've had artwork advertised on this gallery site, I provided them with photos etc of the artwork, and price of the sale and value of commission was clearly set out in emails. They would take roughly 50%, which is something we both agreed on.
When one of the finer pieces sold I was initially exited and without wasting any time I had the artwork expertly packaged and sent to them by special delivery so it would reach them as quickly as possible as I knew they would also have to send it on to the buyer.
I had confirmation that they received it fairly quickly so everything at this point seemed ok. Days then weeks past, but I hadn't forgotten about the sale, and I trawled through old email exchanges and I saw that in the small print they claim to pay you 30 days from the sale. So this would explain my long and patient wait. However another two weeks past (six weeks from sale now), and still I heard nothing, no email no cheque.
So I thought I should chase them up, when I did they asked if I could produce an invoice for them. If they had any intention of honoring their side of the agreement I believe they should have asked for this much earlier. Anyhow, I promptly created an invoice as I thought this must have been the reason for the delay.
I had confirmation that the invoice was received and was fine. So more days past no cheque still. I emailed them again, only to be told they were going to chase the so called 'accounts department'. The following day I emailed and asked if they were successful in contacting the accounts department, and this time no answer. I could see the gallery was active as they were posting on facebook. So I tried again asking them what they would do if they were in my situation, again no answer. So this is where I am now . . . they have my artwork, they've been paid and I'm left with nothing.
So I've written this here in hope of some sound advice. I'm not going to say who they are at this point because I still hope that they see sense and honor their side of the agreement. But the way things are looking is not promising. It wouldn't take much for people to realise who this lot are as they've been discussed on here before regarding different subjects. Where do I go from here, any ideas?

FS Frog on a Spray Can (gold edition), by Zanda on Feb 27, 2015 11:23:30 GMT 1, I've created a new small edition from my Frog on a Spray Can print series, using metallic gold paint for the frog, which shimmers when caught at the right angle.
The idea of this artwork, is that the paint from the spray can has brought the frog to life, and the frog sits poised on the can, ready to jump out of the print.
