Banksy โข frAGILE โข Legacy of War Foundation , by stillborncrisps on Dec 28, 2022 19:47:38 GMT 1, Banksy has clearly decided to be a profit-making business... The entire money collected is going to charity - not a percentage, or the profit after costs. Banksy's covering the materials, framing, postage... he's making a loss.

Banksy Bristol TShirt โข Colston Four, by stillborncrisps on Dec 20, 2021 13:27:27 GMT 1, I'm curious at the seemingly deliberate wording Banksy used, 'all proceeds to the defendants so they can go for a pint'.
It seems different to other times he's helped people with legal wranglings (eg those Russian guys, Voina, who defaced the bridge in St Petersburg).
Would there be some issue for him (or the Colston 4) if he'd have put 'all proceeds go towards their legal costs'? Maybe they are getting Legal Aid and direct contributions would upset that? Or does it just keep him comfortably at arms length from the issue?

Banksy Copyrightยฉ & Trademarkโข, by stillborncrisps on Jun 30, 2021 10:50:47 GMT 1, So Banksy wants to spend the rest of his life taking people to court for making T-shirts, Postcards and Mugs with his images on? Sorry, I just donโt get it. I don't get it really either, never used to do anything about it I do get why he might get a bit pissed if businesses are trying to 'own' his artwork by registering trademarks and copyright and then licensing and charging out these images to other businesses, might this be a possibility why he is doing it? I think this is it. Day to day he's fine, and small time bootleggers he's not arsed about.
But what artist would want a situation like with Full Colour Black where they gain control of the rights and have the power to prevent HIM from using/producing his own work? I think this is what he's trying to stop.

Banksy Copyrightยฉ & Trademarkโข, by stillborncrisps on Jun 22, 2021 10:51:09 GMT 1, He's trying to avoid using copyright laws so he doesn't reveal himself, but brands who have no single creator manage to copyright their work? How does that work and why can't Banksy do that? Eg a design or pattern on a Diesel t-shirt would be copyrighted (not just the trademarked D logo) but it could have been created by any number of designers? One person doesn't hold the copyright?

Banksy monkey parliament 2009 sell or keep?, by stillborncrisps on May 7, 2021 21:35:28 GMT 1, I really wouldn't use a 'local framer', no matter how brilliant.
If this thing is really worth ยฃ5k-ยฃ6k, get a proper archival or fine art framer to frame it, one recommended by people on here.
Do some research yourself on different UV glass types. What a framer offers isn't necessarily the whole range. Even with UV glass try not to hang it where it gets hit by direct sunlight, ICBW but I don't think any glass is 100% protective?
Also, you might want to look at getting it listed as a high value item on your Contents Insurance (if you have any). Most insurers want valuables over ยฃ1k or so itemised or they won't pay out. Think of accident cover as well as theft cover - leaking pipe, falls off wall, etc...

Banksy 'Subject to availability' Christies June 20th, by stillborncrisps on Apr 15, 2021 22:21:08 GMT 1, One of his weakest pieces now its out of context of The Bristol Museum show. It needs to be amongst a load of other genuine masters. No it doesn't, its a statement on humanities rape of nature He's made stronger, better, funnier, cleverer statements.

Faile NFT launching tonight 18:30 (EST) / 23:30 (UK time), by stillborncrisps on Mar 31, 2021 18:21:55 GMT 1, Iโm admittedly a huge Faile fan, but I see no problem with this and actually think the animations are cool. That said, Iโm not into NFTs and have no interest in buying these. Anyone thatโs followed Faile knows that they have been doing digital art for a long time, so those calling them โfull of shitโ need to look in the mirror. It would have made far more sense to release their arcade style animations from Deluxe Fluxx as NFTs. I thought the same. There's just no craft to these animations.
The amount of love and layering they put into their pieces, making them look old, distressed, etc... This style just doesn't fit the aesthetic, looks cheap.

Advice for selling my Banksy prints, by stillborncrisps on Mar 23, 2021 4:11:05 GMT 1, If your Capital Gains Tax works like ours does in the UK where you get an untaxed allowance each year (around ยฃ10k for UK I think), it would make sense to spread the sales out at least 1 a year to maximise your allowance, if you're not in a rush to sell.

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by stillborncrisps on Mar 19, 2021 17:06:56 GMT 1, So much for my 'price of a sticker pack'.
I have to say, I think the balloons look really good. They're well made and look distinctly D-Face, very much in keeping with the D-Face world (even though he's not used 3D before). It's a concept perfect for the intended display devices and a nice nod to Warhol's balloons. Aesthetically the 3D is something that wouldn't work as a print (a Giclee maybe but I'm not a fan of those), and they don't look like a print that's been retrostpectively animated, so top marks there.
The mural ones however look absolute (d-)dog shit. This is what I was expecting a lot of artists would do - try and animate still pieces they'd already done. Those glitch effects?! The concept's weak, they look cheap. He should've kept those out of the mix.
So thumbs up for the balloons, though don't think I'll be dropping ยฃ1k on one.

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by stillborncrisps on Mar 19, 2021 16:02:32 GMT 1,
To play devil's advocate while I get my own head round it all....
a) You could kind of say that about a lot of art. eg the difference between a signed and unsigned Banksy is a pencil squiggle and several thousand pounds. But it's the same print essentially. Or between a backdoor print vs official (from the same run). They're pretty much the same object, but you're paying a premium for it being classed as more 'official', the other is deemed virtually worthless.
b) think it's pretty clear - it's like any art, you own the object but not the licence or copyright for the image, so no reproducing or making merch.
c) same could be said for sculpture. A lot of it is impractical with limited display options.
d) what do you show them now, COA? PC Certificate framed next to the print?
I'm enjoying the challenge of questioning all the norms surrounding the art world. The art we own, why we own it, why does authenticity matter if it's just a nice image, etc...
Not seen the prices yet. If the open edition was the price of say, a sticker pack, I'd be cool with that. That's what I'd value a fun Gif by an artist I like to be. Somehow I think they'll be a bit more than that though.
I don't understand them at all, but I think you're wrong about point (b) - you don't even own the object, just the NFT connected to the object. There have been instances where some artists have discovered NFTs connected to their art that they didn't authorize. As I say, I don't understand them (yet).
That sounds like the real world equivalent of a bootlegger? So it wasn't the bootlegger's work to sell, and the work is essentially worthless?

D*Face NFT Release - Fri 19 March 5.30pm, by stillborncrisps on Mar 19, 2021 14:46:41 GMT 1, it's just stupid because a) you are paying $$$ for a jpg or an mp4 that you can download b) is not clear the type of ownership and what you can actually do with them. Can you make hats and tshirts with that image now? c) size and formats are just stupid. Where do you watch it, at home on your TV? On your ipad? And then what? TV is horizontal 16:9 and these jpgs are vertical or squared. It looks crap. d) what do you show your friends or family as a proof of "ownership"... a code? e) NFTs as they are now, they are good only for the artist, the platform and a quick flipper.

WCP The West Country Prince, by stillborncrisps on Jan 4, 2021 22:16:02 GMT 1, Matt I've never owned one, and don't wish to. But I was going by that photo posted by Silky a couple of posts up. Where the black overlaps the brown background, there is a margin about (5mm). To me in this picture I feel it's too obvious. This can be caused by getting the paint to printing medium ratio not right, resulting in a degree of transparency with the black, which you def don't want. This margin can also be made apparent by the change in texture when one layer is pulled over an existing paint layer. So you can still see something on a genuine LN. I just feel here it's more pronounced than it should be. Having asked for close ups of them in the past, a lot of the spray detail is absent on a WCP copy. This matters less on the LN than on some designs.
I had to turn my brightness right up, yes, it does, that black overlap does look a bit shit. I've seen that on POW prints though - the Mighty Mo ones looked great on screen, but in real life had that noticeable overlap. Not as big as 5mm, but I was disappointed.
