Art Basel โข Miami, Hong Kong, Paris, by turnsintoashes on Nov 29, 2014 17:26:53 GMT 1, What fairs/events is everyone hitting this year? I'm trying to keep my plans loose in case I find something new while I'm there, but I'm planning on going to:

Anyone planning on buying a piece while you're there?
Any restaurant recommendations?

Katsu ๐บ๐ธ BTM Graffiti Crew โข Art For Sale, by turnsintoashes on Nov 29, 2014 2:43:22 GMT 1, Yeah, I went for the Gold Shadow version. I've been waiting for the original black and white versions to drop in the Archive Sale, but keep missing them! Same here, but they always want so much for it when it comes back around. I would really love to contact katsu and get an original. But I have no idea where to start. Pretty sure The Hole NYC has drone paintings available. 1xRun might have access to originals too.

The octagons were pretty good and I dig the one posted above, but a few other pieces fell a little flat for me. But he's definitely very talented and will stick around for the long haul.

New POSE show at Library Street Collective, by turnsintoashes on Oct 20, 2014 17:47:48 GMT 1, his work is pretty awesome in person - what do people think overall of his style? I love Pose's style. He's just as good with color/composition as KAWS, I think. His pieces are painted wonderfully and precise.

Visit MIAMI ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by turnsintoashes on Sept 30, 2014 19:58:11 GMT 1, I went to my first Basel last year and it was a great experience, even though I was totally burnt out and overwhelmed by the end of the week. I'll probably be there Tues-Fri this year. I didn't do any of the partying that seems to be part of the experience though.
You should visit the main fair once and early in the week...I went on Saturday last year and it was extremely busy to the point of annoyance. You'll see a lot of museum type pieces. I witnessed two people almost knock over the same Calder sculpture in a span of a couple minutes, it was that crowded. The gallerists were panicking.
Art Miami/Context were great I thought, along with Scope and Pulse. Scope/Pulse will be more your speed if you're into the art talked about on this board. I heard there were great things at Untitled and Design Miami, but didn't get a chance to go there. NADA is worth going to also. (it's free) I've heard about a super cool week long thing happening in Wynwood this year with a killer group show, so keep your eye out for that. Lots of great artists involved.

Visit CHICAGO ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by turnsintoashes on Jul 22, 2014 18:31:10 GMT 1, Calder has a massive sculpture downtown at Adams and Dearborn. It's very impressive in person.
Kavi Gupta Gallery usually has something worth seeing too. Along with the galleries mentioned above, check out Rotofugi for designer toys and lowbrow art.
If you like whiskey (especially) or other booze, find a Binny's Beverage Depot. Killer selection. I like the one in Lincoln Park. If beer is your thing, Chicago has good breweries. Check out Revolution, Half Acre, Goose Island or Begyle.
If you like food (meat in particular) go to Publican. Easily one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Be prepared to drop some coin though. Cheap eats can be found at Xoco (Mexican), Nhu Lan (Vietnamese) and Sultan's (Middle Eastern). Slurping Turtle has good ramen. Irazu is a great Costa Rican restaurant. There's really too many great restaurants to mention...Chicago is a great food town.

It's a lot like record collecting!, by turnsintoashes on May 31, 2014 16:31:47 GMT 1, I've been a record collector (punk/indie/hardcore/etc) for about the last 15 or so years...I'm now selling a lot of my collection minus the essentials to fund art purchases. Also selling a lot of my non-essential guitar gear too. Not sure what that says about me...

Jason Revok ๐บ๐ธ Graffiti Artist โข Print Release โข For Sale, by turnsintoashes on May 21, 2014 18:09:01 GMT 1, Similar to what the previous poster wrote, I just spoke to LSC and they do start at 2,800 USD and will progress up to 4,000 USD. They will release an initial set of 50 now and then 50 more later. Each piece will include a limited edition booklet containing photos and descriptions of the project. I was told they have an "extensive" waiting list and I should commit now to lock in the price at 2,800 USD. Sounds like sales speak to me, but it's probably worth contacting them sooner rather than later if you have an interest. Believe the waiting list hype...everything Revok makes these days is sold instantly.

Sam Friedman ๐บ๐ธ Print Release โข Painting โข Kaws, by turnsintoashes on May 17, 2014 14:32:40 GMT 1, I ve been enquiring about Sams work with the gallery and requested some hi res images of some of pieces I was interested in, there were a few 14 in total that I picked out! Must say though they dont seem to be very helpful. My request was met with " I can only send 3 images due to the hi resolution" I then asked if it might be possible to send more than 1 email (made sense to me, if they are in the market to sell artwork) and havent heard another thing and that was about a week ago....not impressed! As someone above mentioned commissions I may contact the artist direct. Does anyone have his email or any contact details please. I've worked with them before and they are good people, but very busy. (lots of projects other than the gallery) I'd send a reminder/followup email and they'll get back to you quickly.

Sam Friedman ๐บ๐ธ Print Release โข Painting โข Kaws, by turnsintoashes on May 9, 2014 14:01:04 GMT 1, There's not a lot out there about him...I've been searching. I'll have a chance to meet him at the opening so I'll be sure to ask a lot of questions! ha
As far as I know he doesn't have a website or webshop with prints and stuff. He's only done one print so far (linked below) and is doing a screenprint with LSC.
It seems like his newer paintings are more abstract and more "zoomed in". Like just large shapes with the wavy water lines, rather than entire beach scenes or smaller sections of a large scene. He posted some pics on his instagram (username "samfriedman") that have lobsters in them and I think they're awesome. He's going to be one to watch I think.
This is about all I know and could find by googling.
