For Sale: Christoffer's Art Collection (Part 2 - EVERYTHING), by Howard Johnson on Mar 4, 2019 1:31:54 GMT 1, PART 2
The attached pdf contains most of my existing collection, with about 25 or so pieces missing that I'll get to in PART 3.
Please send inquires via email to the address noted in the pdf. If we've done business before feel free to just text me. I made this catalog in excel so there are not any pics, and I suck at excel, but most of the works can be viewed at gaddinigallery.com. I only check my personal email once or twice a day, so I will probably not get back to you immediately, but I will respond to every legitimate inquiry.
If your interested in anything, please include:
1) your location (I'm in LA),
2) your desired transaction method (paypal, cash, ect),
3) whether you'd like to buy at the listed price or make an offer, and
4) any additional requests for information or photographs, which I am more than happy to provide.
The pieces marked "OFFERS" are the ones on my wall and that have sentimental value, but I'm putting it all on the chopping block so if you'd like to make an offer feel free to do so. Please be aware that these will not be available once I liquidate the rest (the idea being to trim it down to the absolute bare essentials).
Open to swap for a Rolex, but no art trades at this time.
Thank you all and please have at it!
Catalog ---> docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/14MbLV3LGgYty_hgADdqitWXCGreehiLIxTxaf-YyPUQ/edit?usp=sharing
Note: Sorry for the second thread, as I could not find out how to bump my initial sales thread.

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by Howard Johnson on Jan 16, 2019 2:42:19 GMT 1, Thank you all so much for the recommendations!
I ended up going with a Tudor. My ideal "everyday watch" is a two-tone datejust, but I just frankly wont have the cash to afford a decent one anytime soon. After a week on the wrist i'm absolutely in love with my little 80s Prince Date. The quality of the Tudor is stunning, and aside from the size, I dont really notice all that much of a difference from the datejust. Also, fun note, this watch was more-or-less the same one worn by Patrick Bateman in American Psycho (his was a datejust with vertical lines instead of a "linen" dial, but still!).
I'm now working with a 60s seamaster, 55' Breitling Geneve, 80s Poljot, a 90s Navitimer thats in the mail (stoked!), a Hirst swatch, and my 80s Tudor. I'm going to take a break for a while, but I'm really happy with how the collection is coming along and I think I really only need a solid dive watch to round it out. I'm already thinking of going for a vintage Black Bay, but they are quite hard to find. If anyone has a diver rec (ASIDE FROM THE SUBMARINER) please get at me!
What are your favorite watch collecting tips and tricks? Do you go vintage or contemporary? Which brands do you love or hate, and why?

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by Howard Johnson on Jan 3, 2019 21:15:48 GMT 1, New to me, had it for just over a week now, difficult to get hold of at the right price but got sick of the never ending waiting lists. Stunning!
Dive watches are so versatile. I'm thinking thats probably the style to go after for my first large purchase. Now its only a matter of whether or not I can control myself and hold off for sub or yachtmaster, or give in to a used omega, which I love, but Rolex is freaking Rolex for a reason! patience is totally a virtue when it comes to watches.

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Jan 3, 2019 20:54:38 GMT 1,
This is my moniker (stage name?).
I've created a small body of artwork of the course of last year. I "publish" my work as street art. It's really street-art lite. I call it the "free art campaign" as all the works can be removed and taken home by anyone who fancys them. Most of the time they are already framed.
Its been a wonderful experience thus far and I'm continueing to push my own personal boundaries with each new work.
I used to place value on my "identity" as a seasoned art collector, but I no longer think that identity is helpful in my life journey. I love helping others with collecting and learning about every nook and corner of the hobby, that will never change, BUT, I fell victim to the materialism and ended up believeing that the art I owned and my status as a "art collector" defined part of who I was. This is obviously false, for all of us.
So I'm making a change. Starting over so to speak. Howard helped me "become" an artist, something I never believed was even possible. He's not who I am. But. For our purposes, I think he has some interesting things to contribute.
Happy hunting!

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by Howard Johnson on Jan 3, 2019 20:11:09 GMT 1, Whatever you do, do not buy the speedmaster reduced. Try to get a vintage speedmaster moonwatch. This is a classic hand wound watch that collectors love. No one I know will collect the speedmaster reduced (which is an automatic movement). I know it will take a while but you can get one for between 2.5-3k usd. Rolex watches (except Cellini) are always the smart buy but very hard to get a man's size (36mm and up) for the price range you mentioned. You do not need to buy a new watch from an AD but you have to be careful since there are a lot of fakes out there.
Thank you!
The whole reason I want the speedmaster is for the historical aspect of it and kinda assumed all of the models were more or less the same. In terms of a vintage speedmaster with actual horological significance, is there a time frame or reference number you'd recommend? Cheers!

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by Howard Johnson on Jan 3, 2019 19:25:40 GMT 1, Wow. I did not realize that we have some watch gurus on here! If its ok with y'all I'm just gonna switch this thread into a general discussion of the hobby.
I am brand new to it. I'm frankly using it as a methadone of sorts to get off the hard stuff (art). Luckily, the lessons I've learned collecting art are almost the exact same with watches! I couldn't resist a bit of impulse buying so as of now my small collection has a 1955 Brietling dress watch, a 1959 seamaster, the hirst swatch, and a Poljot that saw combat during the Afghanistan conflict.
Alas, my impulsive ass regrets getting buying 3 instead of saving for something better. But, I've learned my lesson and am very very slowly narrowing down my first entry level piece. What I've concluded as of this writing are that these are the best "bang for buck" pieces (that also fit my personal style): Speedmaster Reduced, 90's Seamaster with a bit of damage to knock it down into the 1500 range, or a vintage Cellini or Datejust.
What do you think about these models as entry level pieces? Is there any others you'd recommend? I really love the sophisticated "moon-phase" APs and VCs; do these brands or any others make a realistically priced piece in this style? The used market is obviously much more accessible, but should I wait and by new? Are warranties and manufacture provenance important enough to spend an extra 30-40% on a new watch?
Thank you in advance for your guidence!

Watch Collectors โ Buy & Sell, by Howard Johnson on Jan 3, 2019 19:14:09 GMT 1, Ah, how I do love my Seamaster! My wife gave it to me as a present for my 30th birthday, more than 15 years ago :-) Iโm annoyed now. Your wife only gave me a blow job for my birthday.
Hahahahaha. Sorry for the belated quote, but this roast needed to be recognized for the artwork that it is.

Shepard Fairey - Artist Prints, by Howard Johnson on Jan 2, 2019 21:09:10 GMT 1, Shep was kind enough to donate to a charity show I did years ago and I can confirm that he did donate AP prints. They are NEVER numbered so its tough to say how many are produced. I image 10% or less of the initial run would be sufficient to provide replacements for damaged prints and to keep for personal gifts which he is very generous with. There should be no difference whatsoever between the AP and original run (very few 90s editions are the exception but quite rare). Congrats on the acquisition!

For Sale: Christoffer's Art Collection (Part 2 - EVERYTHING), by Howard Johnson on Dec 31, 2018 20:33:49 GMT 1, I am very sorry to hear of your bad news this year, particularly your recent diagnosis. I wish you a speedy recovery. I hope you will stick around this forum; your posts are ones that I particularly look out for and enjoy. I adore these canvases. Wishing you a happy new year and a much better โ19.
Thank you very much! I won't be leaving UAA anytime soon! I think it takes a while to realize that purchasing art is really only one aspect of this super rewarding hobby and I think when we collectively focus on "what's next" we fail to fully appreciate the art in front of us.
Peace and love to everyone over this holiday!

Shephard Fairey Andre Giant wallpaper info UPDATED, by Howard Johnson on Dec 31, 2018 18:53:43 GMT 1, If this is authentic is a stunning piece of obey history and will fetch $10-15k depending on the sales venue. The biggest issue will be provenance which others have mentioned. I wouldn't worry about the signature all that much (although a period-correct sig could bump this into a higher price range), as many pieces from this era were sold unsigned.
My recommendation: contract Fairey and have him authenticate the work. He is one of my heros because he has remained so unbelievably assessable to fans. He's personally authenticated and signed dozens of works like this for me over the years and I bet he'd be delighted to see something this rare surface.
Without some sort of authenticity paperwork directly from Fairey or the obey team it's essentially worthless and if you can't get that paperwork or a concrete answer about authenticity it would be unethical to sell. Either way, if YOU know it's authentic then hold on tight as any wallpaper obey is a once in a lifetime aquasition.
Good luck!

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Nov 6, 2018 0:22:40 GMT 1, Heres a fun find that I thought was worth sharing.
Its a deluxe edition of a book called "Stickers". The book is a fantastic overview of influential stickers from the punk movement to contemporary street art (and a ton in between such as skate stickers, Techno stickers, ect.). It is an edition of 300 and includes 23 large format stickers, some of which are signed. The 23 stickers are awesome, and my copy included signed ones by Maya Hayak, Skullphone, and Kenny Scarf.
However, the main reason I am posting it here are the stickers by Invader and Barry McGee. As both artists release smaller sized works (ie the invasion kits and McGee's bottles and sketches) that are comparable to the stickers in size and imagery.
To me, an Invader and Mcgee edition of 300 (plus a bunch more and a badass book) are well worth the $150 these are selling for. For size reference, mine are in 8 x 10 frames.
Happy hunting!

Retna โข Ludavico & Ludovico, by Howard Johnson on Oct 25, 2018 0:08:52 GMT 1, Man, I love this print. The colors remind me of 3D glasses as well, and is has a nice retro vibe.
In terms of price, every other edition has sold out so I'm guessing PTA has a good gauge on his market and current demand (although I have heard whispers that his aftermarket prices have started to drop again). I also am a firm believer that artists should produce works for all budgets: Kaws did the open editions, Banksy did a bunch of posters and the box set, and Retna, admittedly only this year, released those decks that were mostly under 1k. If your dead set on owning a retna, the decks are a decent option and damn pretty in person (I own the cheap one). So that being said, let the man charge what he wants. He worked up from a local graff artist to world-wide well known, if often disliked, contemporary artist.
However, IMHO I think PTA may have slightly overpriced the recent releases. There are so many of the last print on ebay and elsewhere that is seems like most people bought to flip. The others are less common, but I also expect they were better produced (I love me some diamond dust).
Anyways, good luck to anyone going for one!

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Oct 23, 2018 18:08:24 GMT 1, Awesome Keith haring find!! I've got a little drop as well. John Baldessari "picture in a frame" available as a signed edition and unsigned poster. This shop has a ton of awesome posters/editions from richter, beuys, Miro, Calder, and others. Here's the catch, you can't buy direct. You send an order and they send you an invoice. I ordered mine a week ago and still have not received the invoice so you gotta be patient with these. Happy hunting!

Banksy Photo Prints by James Pfaff, by Howard Johnson on Oct 19, 2018 23:49:01 GMT 1, Has anyone received their photos? If so, could you post a pic? I'd love to see what these look like in person. Come on, the new larger size is tempting me! The initial size was far to small. I would hesitate paying that much for a drugstore style photograph even if it was 1/1. The new size and edition are slightly better even though I think the photographer should have increased the size or lowered the edition a bit more to justify the price. What intrigues me is that these are c-prints (aka classically developed photographs). They makefor wonderful editions, especially at a larger size (my favorite piece in my collection is a 16"x 24" c-print).
Lets be clear, I dont think these will be valuable down the line. Its not a "banksy," nor is it official ephemera like the cans poster or tesco bomb. However, the history with the portrait gallery, and that funny mask (which makes me nostalgic for "exit") have piqued my interest. I'm not a buyer yet, but maybe if I'm flush down the line I'll snag a bigger one.

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Oct 19, 2018 17:37:47 GMT 1, I'm so confused. Why not just make it the two dolphins intertwined? Can anyone make a rational explanation?
Explaination: it's just plain funny. As a comic it's wonderful. As fine art, it's equally hilarious, for a very different reason lol. I'd say it's a top 5 drop for trolling value alone. Someone please post something better; we all need a palate cleanser.
Happy hunting!

UAA Exclusive "Drop" Thread , by Howard Johnson on Oct 18, 2018 2:26:56 GMT 1, I'm so stoked that this has turned into a free for all! Keep up the good work guys! Here's a little drop for the D*face fans. Hand stenciled tote bags, only 4 of each produced and fairly priced! Get em' while there hot! rebelsalliance.com/store-2018/Sweet find Christoffer! Mine just arrived and I think itโs great.
Glad you like it! My two came in today as well, and I think they will make a lovey pair once I get them tray-framed. Happy hunting!
