Why I will never buy another Banksy print, by njr911 on Jan 9, 2011 21:29:40 GMT 1, >>>2. Ultimately for the same price you're not getting a quality piece of art necessarily (perhaps a drawing or a poor sketch, with all due respect to those that collect them) and basically just buying the name on the bottom corner. A CYW may be an edition of 25 but it is a quality print and very limited in number - this is making a huge presumption but what would a Warhol screenprint, ed. 25, fetch today at auction <<< Unfortunately, there are no Warhol editions of 25 that I can recall off the top of my head. Most of his editions number in thousands and color variants in hundreds. There are plenty of TPs/APs and then there are unique variations that number less than a hundred on different qualities of paper. There is a print CR that can be had for maybe $50 (a guess from memory) which is very thorough. This site is a good reference too: www.warholprints.com/Image.Gallery.htmlIt's a mature market given his death and there are no bargains to be had. You pay full price or a multiple of it because you enjoy the work and know that there is nothing he can do to soil his name or lose favor historically. That's why I find the premise of this thread a bit misleading. Yes, anyone can go buy something released by a famous old or dead artist for the price of some of these prints on the secondary market but it's going to be something of comparatively lesser worth in their respective catalogs. Of course it could be a better investment enjoyment and financially and we all have to make up our own minds in that regard. It comes back to buy what you like and none of us is wrong or right compared with anyone else if we buy accordingly. Anyone buying a Banksy on the secondary market is paying a premium too because there are precious few 30 something year old artists known around the world. He could fall out of favor like many before him or he could build upon what he has done and be remembered in a few generations as historically important. Still, there is precious little that one can buy for 5k GBP that is historically significant. At that price one is buying a name from my vantage point (nothing wrong with that to me and I've done it numerous times) because anything they did that is truly valuable is way outside that price range. Likewise, there is nothing being released today that is historically significant yet. Pick your poison I suppose but most importantly the more we understand what's available to us the better informed we are to decide what we love and the less we're likely to suffer from any buyers remorse. It seems to me printguru has figured this out for himself as have many others in this thread and that's a good thing. It's much preferred (to me) to the I'm right/you're wrong or competition aspect that seems to dominate so many posts on these boards any more.
What would a Jagger print cost ? I'd love a Warhol on my wall

Banksy £10 • Di-Faced Tenner, by njr911 on Dec 30, 2010 17:07:32 GMT 1, It's all in the paper when it comes to these notes. The real ones are actualy printed onto a 'textured' paper the same as 'real' british notes, so its all in the touch and feel.
Are you sure - I bought mine from the Ghetto along with a DSTQ and it's on flat paper - couldn't be more real.

I could buy a lot of original Banksys...I don't think the mortgage company would like it though

NEW BANKSY 'Queue Jumping Grey' Choose Your Weapon, by njr911 on Dec 17, 2010 10:02:26 GMT 1, not sure that's true - when it went on sale I got a print and then read on the board that someone else had the same print number straight after. I ended up with the white and the other guy (I assume) got a grey. Mines framed and on the wall Its a bit of both "Our database was overwhelmed with people adding to basket at exactly the same time & a small number of prints were allocated twice. The small number of prints that became available on Friday were related to something else & clearly those prints should never have been made available." I remember I missed the one on Friday (second day) by a couple of minutes. Was F5'ing, but had to go out the door. Came back - and they was sold - haha. Crazy.
Nightmare! I missed colour trolleys as I was getting a slice of someones birthday cake at work !
Got an unsigned which I love but still gutted !

NEW BANKSY 'Queue Jumping Grey' Choose Your Weapon, by njr911 on Dec 16, 2010 22:49:42 GMT 1, Whichever way Banksy prints are released someone always says "it isn't fair". The last time they were released online was for Nola and there were so many people hitting the website simultaneously that they oversold by 63 and Banksy then had to produce a grey rain edition.....many of which were promptly flipped on ebay. I think the Grey edition was because POW accidentally put up the "buy" button the next morning after the release. People had been F5'ing all night after the "white release", and 63 got lucky before they removed the "buy" button again.

WTB BANKSY Choose Your Weapon £2000, by njr911 on Dec 13, 2010 18:01:43 GMT 1, This happerns every release - ebay goes nuts for a month and then they find there true price.
And seeing as there's upto 500 prints in some dodgy colours this might be the next trolleys.

Banksy • Choose Your Weapon Print, by njr911 on Dec 11, 2010 9:50:17 GMT 1, Time to give up and move on.
This happened with sneakers a few years ago.
There more artists out there where you don't have to do this to get some work
