Todd James 🇺🇸 New Print Release • Painting • Art For Sale, by gozgoz on Mar 13, 2008 17:16:34 GMT 1, Its nice to get away from the skulls, guns angel etc and see an artist use his skill / adeptness with a medium in a different way. It took me a LONG time to appreciate Eine's work, as I didnt appreciate that the poduction of the piece was a work of art in itself rather than the more obvious and most unartistic subject matter ( lettering in different fonts? ?) A giclee is a piece of piss to knock out, but a well crafted screen print will have very minor differences, smudges etc that make each one an individual, handcrafted pieces of art, requiring alot of skill and patient input from both the artist and the printer.
but yeah. totally agree with you about getting away form skulls/guns/angels. enough of those.
oh, and corporate symbols too.

Todd James 🇺🇸 New Print Release • Painting • Art For Sale, by gozgoz on Mar 13, 2008 17:15:31 GMT 1, i dunno... i just finished a course in silkscreening and even the course leader said he had no idea why people bother taking up classes in silkscreening cos its possibly the easiest printing technique around and requires almost absolutely no skill. In his own words, a monkey could do it.
And to be frank, I honestly think so too.
Registration is a piece of piiss to do. get heavy acetate, some tape. viola. u have to be blind or extremely malcoordinated to get registration wrong.
Colour separation. Using the skills of a kindergarten schoolkid colour mixing skills assisted by a young adult and you got your colour separation. Want opaque, use more pigment.
I really dont see the "technical demanding" aspect at all.
if you are talking about stonoe litho or etching... then yeah, i would say there's technical aspects there... but sorry guys... maybe one day i'll see the light. or rather the "letters".

Todd James 🇺🇸 New Print Release • Painting • Art For Sale, by gozgoz on Mar 13, 2008 17:07:29 GMT 1, Alot of people used to slate eine's letters, because "they are only letters.... nothing going on" but the fact that they were 27 colour, very technically demanding screen prints, lead alot of folk to appreciate them for what they are.
this is completely offt topic here... but however technically demanding they might be... they can be 528,000 coloured technically demanding using ancient methods of producing ink from pigment of sap of extinct plants, all done hanging upside down juggling apples.... it doesnt derogate from the fact that eine's letters are still "only letters.... nothing going on" to me.....
its only my opinion anyways. not trying to flame anyone or anything.

POW EBAY FRAUD, by gozgoz on Feb 5, 2008 19:46:15 GMT 1, What happened? Did anybody get arrested? I know Banksy and his dealer inflate the prices but POW say it ain't so. As Johnny Rotten said " Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" I do. You're a f*cking idiot! take your ignorance somewhere else.......I think HELLO KITTY may have a forum perfect for you. if you had any clue what the f*ck you were talking about, you would know that Banksy is kind enough to insist on selling his work WAY under market value. If it weren't for POW and Banksy selling so far under market value, I would never have been able to afford any of his prints.
Yeah! and....
sorry i was distracted by wildbill's avata..
r.

Rourke Vandal prints, by gozgoz on Nov 13, 2007 18:25:17 GMT 1, wot sets these prints aside than most, is that even with the anti-war concept they make you smile. Theres humour within the message. Not many anti-war prints that i know about make you smile when you see them. Smiling for all the right reasons BTW.
not a smile which breaks out into a loud monstrous evil cackling?

Rourke Vandal prints, by gozgoz on Nov 13, 2007 18:24:32 GMT 1, understand totally what your saying gozgoz.but maybe some artists dont want to get over it, its someting they beleive strongly in and want to get their point across through their art, they might have families that are or have been at war. And its a pretty important message to some each to their own though
thats a good point. i never saw it that way.

Rourke Vandal prints, by gozgoz on Nov 13, 2007 18:08:59 GMT 1, yeah maybe its cos i dont really like this anti-war-bush theme in the first place.
thats probably why i dont like Shephard Fairey's stuff too... I went to the Stolenspace gallery and as big as the gallery was and as jaw dropping some of the big canvases were, i felt instantly bored by the first 10 mins. it was the same theme and colour scheme again and again and again... and how many times do i have to see a picture of someone hugging/holding a bomb/gun wearing a facemask/gasmask/terrorist scarf.
(ok, i dissssed obey, cauty, micallef and rourke in my two postings. Im bracing myself for some intense negging.)
but yeah, no offence to the artists, execution and skill good/great. but conceptually, lets get over this guys, lets try to do something different now.

Rourke Vandal prints, by gozgoz on Nov 13, 2007 17:54:09 GMT 1, I think his art doesnt do it for me like how micallef and james cauty doesnt do it for me because its too in-your-face-oh-im-being-anti-capitalist-corporate-big-money-anti-war-styley. And this has become too formulaic for me.
I dont deny there is a lot of skill and execution involved but conceptually, to me, its as tired as a f**k bush tee shirt......
Im just about to snap if i see another person slapping a Mickeymouse and a Macdonalds sign and a peace sign together with some guns and Jesus.
