POW - is it worth it anymore?, by lesroy on Dec 3, 2006 13:14:18 GMT 1, [glow=blue,3,300]"I went to the Ghetto yesterday by Lesroy"[/glow]
[glow=red,3,300]Firstly I had a smashing time.[/glow]
Whilst I have been buying art for some time I have never had the chance to visit POW Towers. I have spoken to them many times on the phone and indeed sent them Chocolates on occasions when they have gone overboard and helped me out with prints when they didn't have to.
I was one of the guys that tried for 4 hours and still missed out on the Applause print... but that doesn't make me bitter? Of Course NOT! Lets not forget we are all trying to get something that is Limited Edition, and the important word there is LIMITED. I think alot on here have forgotten that and assume that they "Deserve" a Banksy print.
I got to the Ghetto yesterday.. there was an almighty queue, full of jostling art fans some young and some, suprisingly for me, very elderly. The atmosphere was electric! There most have been 100 people just looking at the queue and shop asking "Whats in there", loads of people with their camera's and phones taking pics of Tony Blair, it was ace, you felt part of something!
Bouncers were friendly and shared a joke or two.
And then inside... f**k! Where do I start... wondered round just staring for 10 mins, got my bearings and looked at all the canvasses etc and then all the presentation folders giving me the chance to see all the POW prints in the flesh for the first time. Went out the back, watched a funny video, playing a game of hula and had a Go on the ยฃ1 Banky lottery to win an Applause.
Next I met Dora. I have spoken to her loads on the phone but never met her. We had a laugh and a joke and immediately that broke the ice. Of course she was stressed, imagine being in a shop with 100's of people asking "Where are the Eelus, Banky & Micallef prints?" one after another. But when you use a little empathy and understand her position, she was an angel and couldn't have been more helpful!
I then ordered my Stanley Donwood "Happy Families", Tittifreaks "Telegraph" and was over the moon. Whilst I waited for my prints I nipped outside to get me a coffee and Dora a Tea. On my return I met Remy from Laz.inc... what a legend, a thoroughly top guy!
Turns out POW didn't bring the Donwood print to the Ghetto so alas I collected only one ยฃ60 print. Was I unhappy after having driven for two hours to get there to be told, no Eelus or Donwood? NO.. I had a wicked day!
As a little sweetener I managed to grab the last DFace "Hate" as Dora's Cousin told me they had one so actually I was over the moon!!
Now I can buy the Donwood from the POW site and be complete! [glow=blue,3,300] The moral of this little tale is:[/glow]
POW owe you nothing. Banky and all the other artists owe you nothing! POW is an orgainsation making art more attainable to the masses, I had never heard of Tittifreaks, Stanley Donwood, Insect, Lucy McGlaughlin and a million others before I found out about POW.
With regards to service. Well f**k the lot of you who think it's poor. Have a little try to put yourself in the boots of the team at POW and Santa's Ghetto, once you have a little empathy you will discover how great they actually are at what they do!
Just by being nice and not hassling the staff I didn't have to rush, I was let in twice by the bouncers, Dora's cousin "found" me a print so I didn't have a wasted journey, Dora was really sweet and helped me choosea print I had overlooked.
What a post...sorry but I can't bear the knoking of POW & Sg without just deserves.
FINALLY
[glow=red,2,300]I'd LIKE TO SAY THANKYOU TO EVERYONE AT SANTA's GHETTO [/glow]

Has Banksy visited?, by lesroy on Nov 22, 2006 20:52:34 GMT 1, He's gotta have a little peak im sure?!
Id love to know though, imagine how tempted you'd be to read what the genuine street-punters think...
Mr Banksy,
If you're out there... I would like to see a print of the "Girl with Nose Bleed" more than anything in the world. I dont care how many copies you have to make so long as I can buy one It's currently my wallpaper on my PC, but quite frankly this is not enough.... I need it on my walls too!
Regards (or love)
Mr Lesroy x x

Lesroy sets the world straight!, by lesroy on Apr 28, 2007 10:50:05 GMT 1, Bacardi, Tom.... we shall work together chaps! I will be having atleast two sick days and never moving from the PC when Trolley's arrives!
If the unsigned edition is colourfull then I still promise to swap with you Mr Bacardi (assuming I actually get one that is)... Assuming the coloured version is of 300 and is signed, then I hope all three of us get one!

Lesroy sets the world straight!, by lesroy on Apr 28, 2007 9:27:58 GMT 1, Trolley Hunters.
Just my thoughts on Banksy's new Trolley Hunter print.
I reckon we will see:
500 Black & White - Unsigned prints just lilke the US / LA Versions.
150 Black & White - Signed edition.
And then another coloured efition of 300 with the blue sky and yellow sand (like the orginal).
What do you lot reckon?

What influence does the print number have?, by lesroy on May 7, 2007 9:20:25 GMT 1, I agree with saaj,
The only prints people tend to spend more on are the single figure numbers, 1 obviously being in demand because its the very first and quite often held onto by the artist.
Banksy's BME number 2 sold for a much higher price than the others on the bay recently for example.
However, if I happened to have 10 prints, all numbered number 50 and I liked your print, I would probably pay a little more to have yours too!

Eelus On POW, by lesroy on Dec 8, 2006 9:12:42 GMT 1, I like E's work... and as someone has said before, he's done all that (inc shows in Nu's country etc) whilst he has had a full time job.
Now that he has his studio and time to develop his art we'll see loads of stuff.
Don't forget, people generally paint what they are into or what inspires them. E had some comedy takes on Star-Wars, but I bet you'll see alot of Greek Mythology stuff from the man now as he loves that also...
But this is my fav...
Strangley, my Dad has a Tatto of his name (not eelus's)in the same place!! ... Who'd join the army hey!

Still undecided about the JD !!
What prices have you been given for the pair to be framed?

If money wasn't an issue..., by lesroy on Apr 9, 2007 20:25:35 GMT 1, Can you see them now?
I'm struggling but yeah it probably would be a Banksy as he was the guy that really made me discover art in the small way I have done.
I didn't used to have a great deal of love for art... sure I liked some of what I saw but man this guy, and then Micallef (and this forum) have really opened my eyes to stuff I would never have looked at.
So yeah, I think one of the Banksy originals above would suit me just about right. 1) coz of the humour and 2) coz of the meaning he had on me.

did you miss out on friendly fire...., by lesroy on Dec 9, 2006 10:18:52 GMT 1, Mate, I'd be a little careful about your sale on eBay of this copy.
Micallef is not like Banksy. Micallef actually adheres (and expects you to) copyright laws and whilst this is wicked for you and your friends, you selling the ripped off image for ยฃ25 on eBay is breaking those laws!
Remember, this is not a "Tribute" its a blant photocopy or Mic's image...
Sorry to put a downer on things, but I'd hate you to get fucked. And by all means make you mates and forum members copies but I'd be careful with selling his image on eBay.
Just my 2p worth to try and protect you

Its Here!, by lesroy on Oct 28, 2006 19:35:02 GMT 1, Vic, Stylus & Martin, did you order signed or unsigned?
My friend got his unsigned today but my signed isn't here yet... he says his has the US style deckled edge?
I promised myself I would not look at his (print - not c**k!) till mine showed up!!
Grrr tempting!
