Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by nex on Oct 29, 2020 12:03:14 GMT 1, Hey there, You guys are missing quite a lot of information on the provenance trail but thats fine I cant divulge everything neither. I am NOT saying this is a genuine piece, as many say I should know better. Nex: to your question 1. August 2020 I see this piece on EBay (which is of course a mistake to start with but whatever). 2. September we start having discussions on Whatsapp directly on provenance and history of the piece, and of course on price. At that time I understand the stencils are different, that its unlikely that B might have done two, thats the cardboards are also different but at the end of the day (1) my perception is my reality and (2) provenance and proofs of provenance are intriguing. Again, I realize at the time this is at best a prop piece, hence no PCO, hence no admission of authenticity. At the time one of the provenance docs is a letter from PCO saying the provenance trail cant be proven. 3. I decide to buy it. (again, my choice) 4. The former owner, 5 years after his email to PCO sent a new email - in October - to PCO for another piece (thats the one referred to in the email). Turned out to be fake. Out of the blue, PCO makes a comment of the Aoyama piece - they probably keep track of every person asking to authenticate any piece. The former owner forwards me this message. 5. Since i am the new owner, I send a request to PCO with only the pictures I shared with you in my first post - and you have seen the reply I got. Hi Vincent, We have told ≈≈≈ and the various middle men this will never get authentication. It was a prop and was not intended for commercial sale. The artist has confirmed this will never be authenticated. Thanks,
Oh, in the last 5 minutes, I just got a reply from PCO to from my message last night - which is very nice of them considering they must be very busy - and lets put it this way, you may think you know, but if you don't, you don't. And they do. And they actually take the time to look at every piece submitted, and hold a file for each of them. Lets close this thread enough time wasted for everyone - thanks LV for the support. As i mentioned this is for my eyes only anyway, and am happy with it. Can you show us the pieces you sent pics of to them? Their message back appears to be discussing two different pieces? Ta
Thanks this is a fascinating response

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by nex on Oct 29, 2020 10:37:15 GMT 1, Yep except the prep is not on a clean brand new piece of cardboard with a slightly different stencil. Not a chance these two pieces are related or even from the same period... @vincenttrapenard you are a seasoned collector, you know full well that this doesn’t add up Of course I do Matt. I just liked the piece, Banksy copy or not and wanted to take a chance. But I have to say I was surprised by PCO reply. We can see that as a blanket reply, or not, or whatever. Who cares really since I say since inception this wasn't for sale. I asked for the forum's advice and got it. Cheers to all. Got work to get done before our president closes the country tonight again...

Pest Control COA • Banksy Print Authentication, by nex on Oct 22, 2020 11:47:50 GMT 1, May I ask what on earth you are talking about in terms of how you see this in any way relative to the Clown Skateboards ‘Test Press’ Series which uses original acetates cut by Banksy himself 20 years ago & used in his first ever London show ‘Rivington Street’ There is no formal acknowledgement or endorsement from Banksy for these skateboards other than (presumably) a drunken gentlemen’s agreement 20 odd years ago. I think it would go along way to have that now. I love the skateboards and respect what Clown are doing putting a picture of the boards with the word 'fake' below them would suggest to me your love is fleeting at best and at worst....

Banksy - Show Me The Monet, by nex on Oct 22, 2020 10:04:22 GMT 1, life is a funny thing, one minute you're winning, the next you're losing. Suddenly your good health is taken away from you, or a job you've based your life and the wellbeing of your family around, out of nowhere is lost. A myriad of other storms can cross our life's path making for tough choices and pain and suffering as you re-find your footing.
A tad of humility, a rye smile, a nod to the luck we have and reminder that what's important in life is rarely simply about a number in a bank account, is certainly not a bad thing.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by nex on Oct 17, 2020 23:37:19 GMT 1, So read through the 30 pages of bickering and infighting the gist is that they are desirable, I didn’t know much about these boards before this, but what I am reading is that banksy cut the stencils for these boards and they are being used to screen print onto the decks, how then are they different from a screen print on paper, ie an unsigned print? No negativity, just looking for constructive POV Cheers
Whilst the clown image has been used a lot, I think the other two images are pretty special, of the time and clearly connected legitimately to banksy. Make of that assessment what you will.

Another two Banksy canvases at Bonhams 22nd Oct, by nex on Oct 9, 2020 11:42:18 GMT 1, Interesting to see the evolution of this work, it looks like this piece in the auction is the original version without the saw blade?
Its states 1999 as the year it was made.
Then in 2000 exhibited at the Severnshed show:
Followed by the third and final version? in 2003:
thanks for putting up that 'progression', seeing these early works always gives me a sense of nostalgia for simpler times.

Banksy • Have A Nice Day Print • 2003, by nex on Oct 9, 2020 11:40:39 GMT 1, Great print. For the Banksy nerds out there... This is the slightly later version of the print. The initial version of the print released in 2003 had the Banksy tag vertical, reversed out inside the leg of the furthest right policeman and a slightly more florid font was used for the "Have A Nice Day" text. good info, lovely print

Banksy CRISIS AS USUAL Print, Gross Domestic Product , by nex on Oct 9, 2020 11:39:18 GMT 1, The fact these are printed on crap paper and will most likely deteriorate over time will make them less desirable. The fact they look terrible (to some/most) with all the waves in the paper will make them less desirable. The fact that they are easily faked will make them less desirable. Not saying they won't increase in value, but if one of these sells above £10k in the next 10 years I'll eat my chefs hatl My belief is it's FOMO driving the value, and this is seen as an affordable print (probably never touched by the man himself). When the music stops and the lights come on things will change. Given he was at the store most days, I'd suggest he would have been heavily involved in their production.

Who's behind the Banksy market rise? (Is it Geismar?), by nex on Sept 29, 2020 9:55:57 GMT 1, my hot take is the market is incredible sensitive to fluctuation, over the last year this forum has normalised auction results as the new private price. Private sales have all been based on these, with little transparency to the reality of these sales after the event. Various posters have continually reinforced this, whilst those owning the pieces have been more than happy to pile in, in agreement / celebration at these new prices.
So with all the above in mind, all it really takes, is a few 'big' print sales at auction to then be amplified, with word of mouth getting to those late to the party but well heeled to keep the trend going....

Buffin has been following street art from before you knew there was money to be made, so sit down

Sotheby's Art Auctions • LONDON 🇬🇧, by nex on Sept 19, 2020 14:17:42 GMT 1, if something cost you £50 and you hang it on your wall its hardlty a display of weallth It's an opportunity cost. Every day you don't sell it, you are implicitly buying it for the price you could receive. that's incorrect, opportunity cost simply means what you've forgone by your decision. It doesn't imply you're buying that possession every day. You bought it once, the opportunity cost simply is what you could buy if you sold it 'one day'.
