BANKSY DON'T PANIC PRINT GIVE AWAY!, by tonysantos2001 on Apr 8, 2010 1:45:22 GMT 1, Honestly if i was gonna do a scam i would of done one a damn sight better than that! I know a fella that does all the student poster sales so could of unloaded them on to him but i wanted them to go to GENUINE fans not just them with money! Also i was hoping that this would put me in good stead with forum members so that if they wanted to sell a print in future i might get first refusal!
Like you i too would be cynical but i can guarantee that its all going into package and posting and if you didn't/don't want one then it's simple.............don't buy one

Banksy's Popularity in the States, by tonysantos2001 on Apr 7, 2010 16:16:10 GMT 1, I have to air this one gripe.... Particularly for the Brits on this board.... If you don't regularly visit the United States, stop saying absurd comments like "Banksy isn't well known in the United States." In NY and LA, and in large swaths of the country, Banksy is VERY well known. He's actually may be the most well known living artist at the moment in terms of popular recognition - particularly among 18 - 25 year olds. Here's a comparison, type the following into Google and you get this many page results: Banksy: 2,550,000 Koons: 1,420,000 (though clearly thats ambiguous as Koon automotive is the first result) Fairey: 1,460,000 (though his brand "Obey" is often cited as opposed to him) Basquiat: 951,000 Rauschenberg: 918,000 Jasper Johns: 410,000 (in quotes) Ruscha: 397,000 Mr. Brainwash: 352,000 (in quotes) Only beat by: Lichtenstein: 5,090,000 Hirst: 3,930,000 (though "Damien Hirst" in quotes yields a paltry 811,000) Picasso: 23,500,000 Warhol: 6,760,000 Pollock: 9,970,000 (Jackson Pollock without quotes yields 1,550,000) Banksy has had full length articles in every major US publication - multiple articles in many of them: NY Times, LA Times, USA Today, Time, New Yorker (7 page feature) etc. If you type Banksy into the NY Times Archives, 353 articles come up. "Wall and Piece" was the top selling art book in the United States. Ranking among the top sellers in its category at diverse retails such as various record stores, Urban Outfitters, the MOMA store and online through Walmart - eventually getting released as a paperback as well. Estimates place attendance at Barely Legal alone at 10,000 a day over three days. His NY Pet Store show is hard to pin a figure, but I estimate well over 70,000 visitors in the weeks it was open - and I wouldn't be surprised if official numbers were in the 100,000s -- not to mention the press coverage practically ensured that the entire island of Manhattan heard about it. He sold out all his movie screenings of his film at Sundance. I mean, its to the point that I know two dogs named Banksy. Sure, large portions of rural America / middle America don't know who Banksy is - but large portions of America couldn't identify England on a map and the percentage of Americans who are functionally illiterate is more than half the entire population of the UK. (42 million) Now here's something that will drive the board crazy.... Great Britain is a smaller island and its easier to market oneself through street art in a nation with a population density of 246/km2 (ranked 51st in the world) versus 32 / km2 (ranked 179th in the world) - So PROPORTIONATELY yes a larger percent of the UK population knows who Banksy is. But there is the distinct possibility that more Americans know who Banksy is than Brits, when you figure in total population. Here's my math: 61M Brits. 304M Yankees. (Just shy 5 times the population) If Banksy's name recognition is 90% in Britain, that would be 54.9 M people. (that's pretty high - but I won't speak for Brits) If Banksy's name recognition is 18% in the United States, that would be 54.7M. From there, its just a matter of demographics to determine if the assessment if fair... Considering that LA has 9.8M and NY city has a population of 8.4M, and that Banksy has both done shows, street works, and major spectacles in both cities with substantial media coverage - already his name recognition total (not in percentage terms) in both cities would be more than in Bristol and all of South West England. Point is, stop the completely idiotic statement that "Banksy isn't big in America" or that any other living artist anywhere in the Urban art scene is remotely as big as Banksy is in America. Its not even a close by practically any metric.
Are you Dave Gorman? ;D ;D ;D ;D
I'll get me coat!

Is Banksy a sell-out? (Discuss), by tonysantos2001 on Apr 7, 2010 16:12:44 GMT 1, I completely disagree. Is Banksy just an artist for hire? Will he do anything for money? If so, we should disregard his street art's social value. All those stencils done in Gaza would be meaningless. Criticizing Tesco would be hypocrisy. Is Paris Hilton getting a painting as well? Banksy would stand for nothing other than business as usual. Simon Cowell is the definition of cultural rot. Sadly, American Idol represents how low America has sunk. So it matters. What excited me about Banksy is that his work made you think. It was bigger than the establishment. The themes mattered and it was for a greater good. If all Banksy wants is to make money, then he's Damien Hirst. It matters. think you should be looking in USA,s own back garden/yard to to dig out cultural rot with people like j zed def jam ect praying over crap like axeandera burke and n dubz to see if they can make a fast buck helping them "break america" innit
COULDN'T BE MORE WITH YOU, I think this guy is just trying to start a fight? If not i value your imput! I'm sure there are other artists that you could look at if you dislike Mr B so much, have you ever seen the work of a Mr Thierry Guetta? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

BANKSY DON'T PANIC PRINT GIVE AWAY!, by tonysantos2001 on Apr 7, 2010 15:45:57 GMT 1, Ok, i admit i'm a criminal, i made 11 pence on every one!
I could of SOLD the unfolded prints but instead i placed them randomly in the tubes before i put addresses on them so that way it was fair to everyone! The guy that i got the posters off (bubba2000) hates the way that it always seems to be those with money that got the Banksy prints and the little guys were always left out!
If we wanted to we could of SOLD the unfolded ones, highest price we were offered was ยฃ225 for one!

BANKSY DON'T PANIC PRINT GIVE AWAY!, by tonysantos2001 on Apr 7, 2010 15:07:53 GMT 1, Most people paid THREE ENGLISH POUNDS! for that they were sent the print in a tube (price of tube ยฃ1.39) and it was sent 2nd class delivery which was about ยฃ1.50 so in total it was costing ยฃ2.89, add in my time packaging up the buggers and mailing them off. I seriously thought that i was doing a good deed but it would appear not!
Anyways the plus side as i've said is there are a few left (i contacted all people who lost the previous lottery and made them an offer of a print) so if anybody DOES want one then message away, but PLEASE NOTE I HAVE NO UNFOLDED PRINTS LEFT SO DON'T EVEN ASK OK

Is Banksy a sell-out? (Discuss), by tonysantos2001 on Apr 5, 2010 18:11:38 GMT 1, Yup, it was a present to Cowell from Sony?BMG
There are probably quite a few Banksy pictures out there that we are likely NEVER to see! Even in the radio interview for the Severnshed show the reporter mentioned that he was taking private commissions.
Banksy also produced a picture for Madonna after taking a private commission from Guy Richie.
I would absolutely LOVE to see some of these "private" works.
So, in answer to the question "Is Banksy A Sell Out?" then i can say NO! A sell out is tradiotionally somebody who pimps there creativity to others in return for cash (such as media advertising) and as we know with the exception of the Blur album cover and the Greenpeace there has been hardly any other pieces produced.
Artists have always produced private commissions, this, granted was paid for by a record company but it was an individual that instigated the purchase/commission with the intention of giving it to one other individual so i hardly think that your claims of "Selling Out!" have much merit, if thats selling out then in that case every artist you can ever think of both living and dead must ALL be sell outs.

Mason Storm ๐ฌ๐ง New Print Release โข Who is Mason Storm?, by tonysantos2001 on Mar 31, 2010 20:40:47 GMT 1, After all this time and effort to keep his identity unknown to most people how could he let someone take those pictures? And why would he do the GWB with a black balloon! haha.
Maybe Peter Dean Rickards threatened to kill him, the man has got quite a reputation you know! From what i'm led to believe there were a bunch of them out of there with Wall O Sound (the record label) and they were working on various projects, Rickards was hired to Document the whole thing and was snapping away like a good un! Now again this is only from what i've heard 2nd hand but the relationship with Rickards got VERY strained to the point where "his services were no longer required"
Now maybe those pics were taken and only ment for the wall of sound lot and once he was fired/let go/whatever he never delivered the goods and just sat on them, once that Banksy fella got quite big then Rickards struck!
Does any of this make any sense?
Seems like an open and shut case to me folks! ;D

Banksy โข Forgive Us Our Trespassing , by tonysantos2001 on Mar 15, 2010 21:53:50 GMT 1, Unfolded ones ain't THAT rare, i got seven of them in total, have picked people at random and are sending them to them. with regard to creases then place the poster on a hard surface and place a sheet of brown paper on top of it and iron on a LOW heat and it should shift at least seventy percent of the creases! and if anyone STILL AIN'T GOT AHOLD OF A POSTER I HAVE ANOTHER TWENTY FOUR THAT HAVE JUST BEEN GIVEN TO ME THIS EVENING! P.M. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED! I would say that bearing in mind there are less than 200 unfolded it is pretty rare, and judging from some of the offers I have had through PM bears that up. like I said we are getting another drop of folded next week will post as soon as we have em.
LESS than 200? Jeez, maybe i should of been a capitalist swine and put them on Ebay (shudders!) Naa, the unrolled ones got put in the tubes with the rest of the folded ones, i then jumbled them up before putting addresses on them, seemed the fairest way to do it in the end!
I'm not sure where the specifics came from about only being less than 200 in existance! Not that i doubt anybody (please don't think i'm starting fights ;D) just that i know that through talking to bubba he told me how the don't panic flyerer/packer that he knows got given a bunch of spares, indeed thats where the batch of unfolded ones came from!
I think some collectors out there would be crying as i was told that one of the unfolded ones was used as roach paper ha ha ha!
I've recieved messages asking about unfolded ones, If you are desperately in need of one then contact BUBBA directly, djbubba2000@hotmail.com
And all those that sent in requests and got replys from me you should recieve the packages by the end of the week, good luck with the draw!!!
Just hope that there's now 74 happy forum members out there! ;D

I've recieved messages asking about unfolded ones, If you are desperately in need of one then contact BUBBA directly, djbubba2000@hotmail.com And all those that sent in requests and got replys from me you should recieve the packages by the end of the week, good luck with the draw!!! Just hope that there's now 74 happy forum members out there! ;D

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by tonysantos2001 on Mar 14, 2010 23:05:01 GMT 1, I'll be honest i just like the idea of the print looking almost exactly the same as the genuine ones As opposed to the canvases you know?
Hmm. How much do backdoor prints normally cost anyways? This is all new to me so just interested in hearing peoples opinions.
Thanks again guys x

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by tonysantos2001 on Mar 14, 2010 22:12:08 GMT 1, Hey, firstly i apologise if i'm posting this in the wrong section but here goes anyways.
I've been trying to obtain a Banksy print for sometime now (over six years) and i've recently been offered a Banksy print that was given as a "gift" i've been told that it's a backdoor print.
Now to be honest i'm not looking to make anything financially from it, i want to obtain the print as i LIKE the image, i just want to know is the ยฃ200 asking price too steep?
Thanks again guys!
Uncle Tony x

Banksy โข Forgive Us Our Trespassing , by tonysantos2001 on Mar 14, 2010 5:49:31 GMT 1, Unfolded ones ain't THAT rare, i got seven of them in total, have picked people at random and are sending them to them.
with regard to creases then place the poster on a hard surface and place a sheet of brown paper on top of it and iron on a LOW heat and it should shift at least seventy percent of the creases!
and if anyone STILL AIN'T GOT AHOLD OF A POSTER I HAVE ANOTHER TWENTY FOUR THAT HAVE JUST BEEN GIVEN TO ME THIS EVENING! P.M. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED!
