Beyond the streets - New York 2019, by geoffw on Jul 10, 2019 16:46:40 GMT 1, I was lucky enough to be in NY opening weekend so went along and I have mixed thoughts on the show. The first section of the early days is really good. Saw pieces, read exceptions of stuff I'd just never seen before.
The following section (the flow of the show is also a bit muddled) was also good, lots of strong pieces. I really enjoyed the archive Beastie Boys stuff, again just because I'd never seen the logo concept drawings and the whole part really worked for me. That entire part of the show was pretty flawless.
Then, IMO it went downhill in quality and just odd 'misses'. I mean for starters where the hell was SEEN? He has a tag on a model train car and a defaced (if I recall Dominican Republic) bill. Thats it. Later on Mr A gets an entire wall...no TLP, DFace, Miss Van, Fafi....but 5 pieces from Andre.
There were some great parts - the McGee stuff was neat, Parla walls were cool. Faile looked good. The 'fake' record store was amazing with the large Nekst on it. Dabs Myla's section I loved. The BAST/Insect room was fun. Seeing a kid run in to the Aiko room and their parents faces when they went in was AMAZING.
The Husk kids drawing space was a brilliant idea.
But overall it felt much less like an exhibition and more like a slightly incoherent show that started off trying to show / educate and then descended into something more akin to someone showing off their private collection. And let's be real you can't have a show promoted in this way and not have a single Banksy and only one, pretty shit Invader.

I really miss VNA magazine, by geoffw on Jul 8, 2019 14:29:14 GMT 1, Hi everyone! Been a (long) while - hope you're all good!
Thanks for the kind words about the magazine...we miss it too. Reality is the core team got very busy with the day jobs, young families etc. and we couldn't commit as much time to it. Very few of us could make openings any more, or participate on here as much as we wanted to. We never wanted to produce anything we weren't happy with so decided it was better to stop and compromise on the quality.
I'll try and be on here a bit more now too.

VNA x all good things , by geoffw on May 2, 2017 11:47:55 GMT 1, Honestly this entire thread is a reason i'm not going to miss this - not you guys or at the launch (thanks to everyone who came out!!) but all the PM's WhatsApps...
Did folks really think they were going to get an Invader for £200?

Invader • Scarf, by geoffw on Jan 25, 2017 16:20:24 GMT 1, Hi all - sorry some of you couldn't grab a scarf. TBH we were surprised at quite how quickly they flew out the door. Unfortunately when something, anything, is in demand vs supply the eBay factor will always come in to play. I wish it didn't but it does and there's not a great deal we can really do to stop it.
And no, there are no spares.

Explain VNA Special value, by geoffw on Aug 17, 2016 17:34:26 GMT 1, So as someone invovled in the mag there are a few different things to consider. For our LE not all are done in the same way and also aren't really comparable to say a larger print by the same artist. But a couple i'd say are comparable to the artists print work: 3D glitter covers, Faile (who screened the cover themselves and then turned the image in to a book cover piece).

VNA 34: Martha Cooper, FAFI, SEEN, Invader, by geoffw on Jul 29, 2016 10:04:36 GMT 1, Hi all - hope you're good.
Quick VNA update - Issue 34 is just being finalised and should be out later summer, it's been delayed due to some new family members arriving in the VNA team and us trying to secure a couple of killer interviews.
I'll update this thread as things get locked in and of course given some sneak peeks at content.

Audrey Kawasaki 🇺🇸 New Release • Show News • Art For Sale, by geoffw on Nov 30, 2015 19:33:09 GMT 1, Apologies...couldn't get in to my account here to post details.
Anyhow, better late than never, I'm pleased to say Issue 32 is here and the Limited Edition is in production. For issue 32 we sat down with one my favourite artists, the always wonderful Audrey Kawasaki to talk about her beautiful work. We've also mixed it up with a great chat with Sandra Chevrier, Fintan Magee, Spencer Keeton Cunningham, Ella & Pitr, Askew and the Uk's very own Mr Penfold. There's a feature on the stunning illustration of Steph Morris, we talk to Vertical Gallery and get the low down from the one and only Mr Jeff Soto for Diggin' In The Crates.
LE details to follow - due to timing, unfortunately there won't be a London launch for this issue but we'll be back for 33!

VNA Issue 31 - Cyrcle, David Shillinglaw, Kashink, Ermsy, by geoffw on Aug 14, 2015 12:12:00 GMT 1,
Happy Friday Forumers - hope you're all well.
Thought I'd start this one a little early now most of the proofing has been done and VNA Issue 31 will shortly be winging it's way to the printers. For VNA 31 we're changing and growing up, in a way that I think you'll all like.
Content wise, I'll update this thread with names and imagery closer to the drop date.
What I will say is that we've got an American cover, a long feature with a great British artist, a couple of Aussies and European representation from France, Portugal and Spain. We're taking in graff, large scale murals, illustrations, character design and mixing it in with a little bit of something more abstract and conceptual.
UPDATE: Issue 31 is now available now in the store: verynearlyalmost.com/shop/vna-issue-31/
Launch is September 10 at Stolenspace Gallery.

What to do in Boston?, by geoffw on Jun 26, 2015 13:48:34 GMT 1, Plenty to see and do - I'd recommend in no particular order:
ICA - nice location, great building, usually have a decent show on.
Check out the large Os Gemeos piece on the Greenway near South station.
Duck Tour - cheesy as hell but a good way to see the various neighbourhoods/area and go for a little dip in the Charles river.
Science Museum
Whale Watching - think it's about $50 but you go out on a boat in to the bay (2 hour trip each way) and if you don't see any whales, you get a refund.
New England Aquarium is really nice, and cool if it's warm outside. The sea lions are particularly good fun.
Boston Common + Public Garden are great in the summer and last time i was there all the messages to Robin Williams (bench scene in Good Will Hunting) had been left on the ground.
Fenway Park - the stadium tour is great, watching a game depends on whether you like baseball or not.
Pizza at Regina's in the North End. Again, kinda obvious but they are great pizzas. North End is great to stroll around in general.
