Dran • Artist Discussion, by met on Dec 15, 2018 22:34:21 GMT 1, Could purchasers of this print explain its appeal?
"Cher Père Noël, Pour Noël, je juste voir une expo de dran c'est tout Merci de me tenir informé Merci"
Rough translation:
"Dear Santa, For Christmas, I only [want to] see a Dran exhibition that's all Thank you for keeping me informed Thank you"
When reading the text of Pinocchio's letter, it comes across to me as Dran mocking his fanboys and even normal / non-obsessive collectors of his work. He seems to be laughing at them, not with them.
Is there a credible (and more charitable) alternative interpretation?
Contrast this piece to Banksy's Morons — mordant but funny, and which critically also offers viewers an "out". That image allows you to feel knowing, rather than explicitly making you the butt of the artist's joke.

Since you are a strong advocate of accuracy I'm surprised you base your conclusion on a "rough translation". Might be better to ask a French language expert first what he exactly writes.
I think "juste" does not mean "only", but I'm no expert. It might be French humor, which is rather close to German humor.
And that, dear members, is how you insult 2 complete countries in 1 sentence.

Dran • Artist Discussion, by Daylight Robber on Dec 16, 2018 0:50:53 GMT 1, What is written doesn't actually make a lot of sense, as there is a verb missing. Presumably he means "I'd just like to see", "I just want to see" or "I just wish to see".
At no point does he write "only", which can be interpreted as an thing of exclusivity. i.e. He only wants to see a Dran exhibition (and doesn't care about anything else). By writing just, he could be expressing a strong desire, but the missing verb would provide some nuance.
All that said, it is Pinocchio writing, so it's likely all lies anyway.

What is weird is that Pinocchio/Dran speaks at the third person of himself. A bit like Cesar. Was is expected as the messiah ? Well, anyway him ( I ) don’t care 🤷♂️ a lot . Just talking

Agree though Fizzy, there are enough pics of him around - think she was more protective of the ‘work in progress’ or spoiling the end result! Great piece, regardless 👌🏻

Perhaps he’s saying that people who claim they only want to view his art and see his exhibition are only there to collect or buy his prints, while not actually caring about the art in the installation. As it’s Pinocchio writing with his nose, the content within the writing must be a lie.

Dran • Artist Discussion, by tiny poubelle on Dec 18, 2018 10:24:32 GMT 1, Unfortunately my father has selfishly selected tomorrow as his 70th birthday so another trip to London is out of the question. I have spent this past week learning to control my FOMO. I must put what I have learnt to the test.
For me, it has again been another great show and one which made further strides to bring his fans closer to the artist, something that could not be said 24 months ago. Everyone I have spoken to has said how well they’ve been treated and how nice the team have been with them. Each time I’ve visited there have been a few familiar faces there and we sat and chatted about anything and everything. There’s a sense of family about seeing everyone.
Once again, there’s something for every collector, regardless of budget and preferences.
The use of watercolours and inks in this show was the highlight for me, allowing the sensitivity of his work to show through but some love the cardboard pieces, others prints, canvases etc
Three prints, all with different appeal, all decent value and good edition sizes.
It’s been nice discussing people’s favourite pieces and prints as it shows that what appeals about Dran’s work differs greatly between people.
It has been lovely to sit in the show and chat with people and learn what they love about his work.
When someone walks into the space, the Dran team often can be heard saying “take your time, there is no rush” and that has been the case. Relax and enjoy yourself.
Obviously being there when he walked in with the canvas and painted the cat was a highlight for those present. It was a lovely little “audience with” moment. Intimate and welcoming.
There were a couple of frustrations, mainly the cash only situation but I think that’s something they recognise and try to assist where they can. Also frustrating for those abroad but hopefully the community pulls together and helps out those not able to attend, wherever we can.
Thank you again to everyone involved in putting on the show. To everyone I met and those that weren’t able to make it, I wish you a very merry Christmas and hope that we meet again at a Dran show in 2019, whether that be London, Paris, or the US (as I know some fans are desperate for).
For those able to attend tomorrow, I’m sure it will be something special, have a great time and enjoy.

The postcards are of the canvases (bar the Eiffel Mouse) that were cut up to make the epic Salad collage. And will be the only official record of them in their complete state. So a bit more special than normal. But still expensive for postcards.
