Black Rat Projects
Black Rat Projects will be closed for the next three weeks while we install our next exhibition. We will reopen on December 2nd with ‘Murmuration’, a solo installation by New York artist and long term Black Rat collaborator Swoon. Further details will be announced shortly.
Swoon has been exhibited in the MOMA, the Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the ICA in Boston, but some of her most striking works exist in various states of beautiful decay within cities around the world.
Swoon’s innovative visions are not confined to her art however; she constantly uses her creativity to take part in revolutionary movements across the globe. This has seen her sail the Hudson River and gatecrash the Venice Biennale in ships made out of New York City junk. Earlier this year she also took part in Haiti’s Konbit Shelter project, which saw her help rebuild homes in post-Earthquake Haiti.

Swoon Prepping “Murmuration” for Black Rat
Street Artist and fine artist Swoon has been laboring in London for the past weeks to prepare art for her upcoming show “Murmuration” at Black Rat Projects. The actual installation has just begun and Mike Snell says it’s “still early days” but they’ve sent us a few behind-the-scenes shots to give BSA readers a glimpse of the developing world of Swoon.

Murmuration opens on December 2nd with a preview evening on Thursday December 1st. Invites to the preview will be sent this week.

Contact Mike at blackrat. There are three prints available two at 1100
pounds and a third print redone from last year Sambhavna at 1800.
Think this years Sambhavna is mounted better to a board instead of a big white piece of paper, and different color scheme, but also 1200 pounds more than last years.

Our first show of the year will open on Friday 24rd February. Invisible Cities features secondary market works by Banksy and Shepard Fairey alongside works by Swoon. This diverse group of artists are eponymous with the current Street Art movement in their retrospective cities. While these three artists work in very different styles addressing a range of different themes and concerns, what unites them is their creation of Invisible Cities; laid out over the pre-existing landscape in unexpected places – in these we find moments of unrestricted creativity and human connection. We will be holding a preview evening for Invisible Cities on Thursday 23rd February from 6.30pm – 9pm. Invites will be sent out early next week.
This year will also see Black Rat Projects hitting the airwaves! Yes, that’s right, the sound of Black Rat will be coming to you every month on Strongroom Alive Radio. You can expect news from our favourite street artists, interviews and all our favourite music. Our first show airs live this week Friday 17th February 7-9pm on 87.9FM, with special guest Jaimie de Cruz, producer of the Banksy’s Oscar nominated Exit Through the Gift Shop.

February will also feature the launch of a brand new print by Candice Tripp “This Will Hurt Tomorrow”. We await its arrival with baited breath; stay tuned for more details.
In January this year Black Rat travelled to Kenya with Swoon to run art workshops in Meru, Kenya with the Equality Effect, a human rights charity. The Equality Effect is an incredible charity and Black Rat is proud to be partnering with them in 2012. Later in the year we will be co-hosting an auction on their behalf.
