Visit MIAMI ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by BROOKLYNITE on Dec 11, 2010 3:11:13 GMT 1, "SUGAR JUNKIE" ART BASEL WEEK, WYNWOOD 2010
"SUGAR JUNKIE" is 1977 Winnebego Motor Home that has been rescued off the scrap-heap, given a tune-up and adorned with murals, stickers, tags, drawings, paste-ups and more from artists around the globe.
We teamed up with our friends at www.pawnworksstickerclub.com to introduce SUGAR JUNKIE to the public in Miami, Florida 2010 during Art Basel Week.
With boombox cranked, we took SUGAR JUNKIE on the road in and around the Wynwood and South Beach areas of Miami crashing party after party with a vehicle that was made by the people for the people. Artists and fans hopped on and off for free rides and tours of murals going up around town. Some local artists could been see chasing SUGAR JUNKIE on foot to take a quick tag or slap on a sticker as we cruised by.
At last count we saw these artists and more represented in one form or another somewhere on SUGAR JUNKIE:
COST, ELIK, MISS BUGS, SPACE INVADER, REMED, VARIOUS & GOULD, AIKO, DAVID WALKER, D-FACE, SKEWVILLE, PERU ANA ANA PERU, COLLIN VAN DER SLUIJS, JOE BLACK, ELUS, SPQR, DAIN, LUDO, CASH4, CHRIS MENDOZA, UFO 907, GAIA, NET KRT, STINKFISH, THUBDERCUT, NOJ, VUDU, LEAS, DDOCK, 5003, CASH FOR YOUR WARHOL, CELSO, RUBY, JULIA, HOPE, PAWNWORKS, RAE.

Visit MIAMI ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by daveart on Jan 5, 2011 15:46:24 GMT 1, I go to Miami /Miami Beach area quite a bit for work .. Not sure your age/what you are into .. but .. you can 'party' anywhere. So, since you mention your missus ... here is the perfect evening on miami beach to enjoy architecture, beautiful spaces, avoid the party crowd, and impress your girl.
-For an amazing place to have a drink and enjoy an asian/modern architectural/art - Setai Miami Beach is worth an hour of your time to sit in the courtyard and walk around the grounds. www.setai.com/
-From there, go art deco and walk down to the Delano Hotel and walk through the lobby and have another drink. www.delano-hotel.com
-Walk from there to lincoln road. Walking mall of restaurants and shops. Have dinner sitting outside at a sushi restaurant or for traditional cuban try 'Yuca' get a seat by the window.
-Bonus place.. depending on your age <ha ha > go from there to your hotel and sleep. or, if you are just getting warmed up.. Check out what is going on at Live at Fontainebleau - doesnt get going until 11PM usually .. but they have some amazing parties there. Live is an experience you cant imagine until you get there. you need to cab from lincoln road.. dont make your girl walk there.
For all of these spots.. dress for success.. and bring lots of cash
If you are 21 and just looking to party.. completely disregard all this advice.

Visit MIAMI ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by artforartssake on Jan 13, 2011 18:14:54 GMT 1, Cheers for all the suggestions, unfortunately got called home early so didn't get to try the Miami Beach area much Dave, alas that was an evening planned that didn't happen
The Wynwood Art District was interesting, with a mix of galleries, although it seems to be alot more about retail than art, if you want edginess, got to Little Haiti That said some of the big 'organised' pieces there look great even if they don't have the 'street' feeling.
The Perrotin is shut, it seems that recently it only opens during the Art Fair. It seems that the building may be on the market now.

Visit MIAMI ๐บ๐ฒ Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Deux Spin on Mar 26, 2011 8:41:59 GMT 1, Morning guys, I recently discovered Alec Monopoly at the Graffik Gallery in Notting Hill, London. PRESS RELEASE - AND DETAILS TO RSVP
Avant Gallery presents Alec Monopoly: Canโt Get Out of Jail Free Solo Exhibition to Open March 25th in the Galleryโs West Wing Avant Gallery proudly presents the work of โAlec Monopolyโ, a young street artist based in Los Angeles, known throughout major city centers such as New York, London and Los Angeles for his placement of the beloved protagonist of the synonymous board game over lampposts, billboards, walls and telephone posts. In an excerpt from โAlec Monopolyโ: Ammunition for the Guerilla Artistโ, Miami-based consultant and critic Shana Beth Mason writes, โโAlecโsโ artistic motive appears to be twofold: a direct, pointedly negative commentary on the structures he paints, and the marketing of that politic utilizing a cultural icon associated with a treasured family activity, specifically within the American collective consciousness. In a more controlled, commercial gallery setup, โAlecโsโ work translates from an expletive gesture towards the invisible bureaucratic juggernaut into a multi-faceted array of Pop culture icons interspersed with financially-apocalyptic newspaper clippings. What separates his efforts from other high-profile graffiti artists who have effectively transitioned into the commercial art sphere (a.k.a. Banksy and Mr. Brainwash) is his tireless emphasis on the emotional experience of the American financial crisis, alongside a deeper attraction to the โanti-heroโ personas of Jack Nicholson and Robert De Niro.โ โAlec Monopolyโ is the alias of an unidentified graffiti artist, originally from New York City. The artist primarily works in the urban environments of New York and Los Angeles, using varied materials (including stencils, spray paint, epoxies, varnishes and newspapers) to subversively depict the protagonist of the internationally-beloved board game, Monopoly. โAlecโ cites his artistic origins as learning from his mother, an artist, eventually abandoning traditional academically-driven art classes to pursue an individual methodology. โAlecโ and his work have been covered by The Huffington Post, The Wooster Collective (New York), Juxtapoz Magazine, and The Dirt Floor.com. Recently, Paramount Pictures commissioned Alec to design the logo for their new production company, Insurge. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles. Avant Gallery is located at 3850 N. Miami Avenue in the internationally-renowned Miami Design District. Avant Gallery offers unique, contemporary โobjects dโartโ with a distinctive Pop sensibility coupled with Modern utility. Furniture accents, lighting concepts, applied fine art and design works and collectibles are available to a vast range of clients from interior designers and contemporary art collectors to homeowners and businesses. # # # Contact: Vanessa Almerico, Assistant Director Avant Gallery Tel: (305) 573-8873 Fax: (305) 573-8870 valmerico@avantgallery.com www.avantgallery.com
