Banksy Gorilla Print Release - POW, by Neate Michael on Feb 23, 2012 18:29:00 GMT 1, I think I know which will win here, but why... Wouldn't it be better if we all could get one? Why would you rather it be a smaller edition, which realistically you ain't getting hold of?

Banksy Gorilla Print Release - POW, by silvermyn on Feb 23, 2012 21:59:16 GMT 1, Think about it... how p*ssed off would you be signing 3000 prints with glitter on them? I get stressed out when I have to do 10 WH Smith glittery Christmas cards
IMO the 750 signed edition of colour trolleys was quite an achievement. I doubt that a signed edition in the 1000's will be on the cards (ever).
For the sake of the sanity of the artist and the guys at POW my vote goes to the smaller edition size.

Banksy Gorilla Print Release - POW, by Ottomatik on Feb 23, 2012 22:20:41 GMT 1, Silver, it's not like Banksy has signed much over the last 15 months. Besides, it's only 6 letters. Shepard Fairey has to sign atleast 3,000 every 2 to 3 months.
My vote is for 3,000!

I always thought the colour trollies was a printed facimile and only the b&w version of 150 were actually handsigned ?

Banksy Gorilla Print Release - POW, by brendan1985 on Feb 24, 2012 8:04:31 GMT 1, My opinion is if he was to release the print in a run of 3000. The prices of every other older print at much lower editions numbers would skyrocket in price. At this edition size it would cut a lot of the issues with flipping out. And would become much more accessible to the majority of people. IMO street art is suppose to be seen and enjoyed by a wide audience. Not like other art forms that are only accessible to the rich. I am all for a large edition print release. as long as the quality is good and a good portion is signed.

Banksy Gorilla Print Release - POW, by boatyyy on Feb 24, 2012 11:56:46 GMT 1, ok, my worthless 2c as usual... Banksy and his people should try a differnt route and not underprice this one at source... add this one to monkey parliament and morons - you've got GOLD!
this whole notion of providing urban art at reduced pricing to 'fans/collectors' and to take steps to deter flipping - lollllll... street art is already on the 'street' and is free for all who walk by and see... which Banksy does a considerable, meaningful job at... (ducking under the covers now... )
reminds of a discussion i often have with buddies about the separation of church and state (the analogy may not make sense - but it's early and i don't drink coffee...)

one is the art on the street , one is originals , prints, sculptures, stuff like that designed created by the street artist intended to be displayed on the walls of the buyer and to be enjoyed from the comfort of your sofa ?
way i see it anyways,
what makes an urban artist? i guess doing stuff on the street the producing stuff for the walls of house, Or the later producing no street work but work to sell straight away, in the style of previous street artists

Signing 750 pieces of paper is not an 'achievement'. If Banksy wants to charge ยฃ450 for a print then the least he can do is sign it FFS.

That was going to be my next question. I have previously seen names like Damien Hirst, Anthony Micallef and Takashi Murakami talked about on here as "urban artists", and I don't think that they have any connection to street art?

It's quite simple. The results of the Urban Art Awards should give you some guidance: urbanartassociation.com/index.cgi?board=urbanartawards&action=display&thread=91059
Urban Art includes names such as Banksy, Eine, Faile, Shepard Fairey, Invader & Blu.
Street Art on the other hand, includes names such as, er, Banksy, Eine, Faile, Shepard Fairey, Invader & Blu.
