Much more understandable then releasing another single colour way beside it and charging รยฃ500 on top.

New Dolk - 'Leap' and 'Bombsuit' - Oktober 16th , by johnj on Oct 7, 2012 0:31:34 GMT 1, i must say i agree with the guys saying that there might be a secret story behind these to prints! due the the skyrocketing popularity that Dolk's pieces have achieved during the last couple of years (especially the last) i am 100% sure that if they wanted they could still sell out rapidly with prices of 500 usd. So my tip is simply - for the people that dont like them or feel they are overpriced, dont buy - for the rest of us that do - we buy them, personally i would be shocked in case they dont sell out within 5 min. Personally i know 10 people that will buy both (none of them have a single Dolk yet) so the mass market (at least in Norway) are waking up for dolks work - but again, thats my personal feeling

New Dolk - 'Leap' and 'Bombsuit' - Oktober 16th , by nex on Oct 7, 2012 3:18:01 GMT 1, The popularity/demand for the prints is fed by the perception they are worth more than what is paid for them. Yes, hopefully somewhere in there is a love of the work, but to a greater or lessor extent plenty of work here is bought purely with an eye on resale.
Dolk's work if we look critically over the last few year has to my subjective eye diminished in quality, in the same period Banksy has slowed his output hugely. Dolk has always been seen as the heir apparent to Banksy's crown because like it or not his work is very similar in nature *cough* very similar. He has to an extent filled at least a portion of the gap, he's also produced in the teddy riot work pieces sacharine enough to bring some from 'outside' this area. Norway's art community has also started to notice him.
So what does this all mean? Dolk found a gap in the market vacated by someone else and has fed it. Not particularly well otherwise i think we'd be seeing more comparable results in resales. Is his work deserving of this? Tough one, he's done pieces of merit and pieces that don't stand up to critically evaluation. I know where my thoughts stand around these recent works.

Just wonder if hanging these (particulary "Leap") would involve my mates endlessly doing Roy Walker impressions.

I couldn't agree more, this is the first time I am actually worried about not getting a print myself because of the increased popularity.. Several friends of mine are planning to buy their first Dolk this time.. Fingers crossed

Is the green the same on Leap that Banksy used for No Ball Games?

Wow, brings new meaning to "less is more" !!
I don't get the fuss for Dolk at all. To me these stencilled images are already looking very dated !

Normally in the morning GMT.
"Riddle me this"
Why is it that the white editions are the same price (ยฃ850) but with the main editions there is ยฃ50 difference?? Leap ยฃ300 and Bomb Suit ยฃ250??

New Dolk - 'Leap' and 'Bombsuit' - Oktober 16th , by nacional on Oct 10, 2012 12:04:03 GMT 1, The price hike and popularity hike is similar to what is known in business as the "Men at Work" effect. For those of a certain age who remember...when The Police were a very popular beat combo, they took a 2 year hiatus to indulge in a world tour and make an album. This meant no product output from them and a public hungry for Police product. In stepped Men at Work, robust Aussies who made a noise like The Police, a singer who aped Sting and had jolly sing-a-longs like "I Come From A Land Down-Under" that made witty and quirky references to Veggiemite and other Antipodean mysteries. For 2 years they reigned, until Sting et al got their collective traseros in gear and started churning out product again. However, it did not mean the end of MAW, they lumbered on for a few more years and still make a very healthy living from royalties and the chicken-in-a-basket circuit.
DOLK is "Men at Work" to Banksy's "The Police", filling a product hole!
Whether this makes MBW Jilted John or Plastic Bertrand is none of my business and out of my knowledge range!!
