I think good art is like a good song. The lyrics give a guide to what the musician meant, but are vague enough to allow the listener to draw his/her own interpretation. But that's me. I tend to find obvious, singular driven narratives (in art) or meanings (in music) a bit boring.
So I guess I'd ask back: what does this piece mean to you, what feelings does it evoke in you? Sit with it a bit. Have a glass of wine with it. I think that once an artist puts his/her work out in the public domain, it's as much yours as theirs to give it a meaning.
Personally, from this piece, I get strong feelings of fear, isolation, and a desire to hide -- an "on stage" moment of a child, which many of us still can feel as adults. I pull similar themes from Panda Boy. But that's me... and that really shouldn't be important to how it makes you feel.
The art can be personal and meaningful to the viewer, yet have a completely different meaning to the artist. Charming once told me the massive Gorilla head painting he did was a self portrait. I laughed, figuring it was bar talk, just a joke... only to realize some time later he was serious.

i have the same perceptions and i will add a notion of violence emphazised by the bloody horns of the mask and red eyes. That's pulling me off.
Otherwise, it's a fine piece.

Disappointing. I love the image too. Not sure it has the warmth of the Panda Boy which is possibly a lazy comparison but having said that I wasn't sure on the Half Pint for some time. I'll stand on the shore waving goodbye to the Charming Baker boat.

Maybe a fear to be on stage, fear is the elephant in the room that they need to get over? Now this is without the suggested glass of wine. I will see what is says to me this weekend with the assistance of a good drink or two. I do like the idea of the wood version, using this medium and hand finishing. I have no idea if this will be a hard peice to secure but I think I may just try for my first CB piece.

I own Half Pint NYC and I can see the similarities - at least this is a print which will make you think a little, step back and question the what and why!

Here in old blight strewn ...bruchffs-land ..yes , but the cost is just a bit of reach of many , myself included.
For now I think of the trunk in the same dull light as the trump over the pond , perhaps that word might stick in your head a tad less than the vibration surrounding the work.. Which , lets be frank ( not Shirley ) , is blind confusion , humour and a touch of the dark , which is cb's speciality.
To those who do , cool ! to those who don't hey c'est la vie..
Btw : yes, it's ala half pint, with the flock , but still the Panda can't Imo be bettered... Or trumped for that ironic matter....

I feel the same way. I guess it won't matter unless the gallery calls me to purchase from registering interest. Seems to be two schools of thought here as well. It won't sell fast because of the price/image and it will because of the image and low #??

it doesnt do it for me. I don't think I like it! I cannot say exactly why and I get that we all need some 'phants' in our lives but just does not make my heart skip or my mind wonder or fill me with warmth.... actually thats it - I have no emotional connection with it at all.
Didn't even get to if its at a price point that I would think .... yes thats for me.
