Shane Turner π¨π¦ New Paintings β’ Montreal Canada, by Shane Turner Art on Dec 11, 2013 7:46:12 GMT 1, They remind me of the old A Tribe Called Quest album covers Hey 2soonjr,
A few people have referenced these tribe called quest pics. The original inspiration was actually based off the opening credits of 'The World is Not Enough' girls in oil, but with way more color and negative space. Originally came about as a surreal experiment of the female form, and finding ways to let the viewer see the girls in the paintings without being boring. Still surprises me how many 'older' people see mountains and other elements other than women in these paintings.

Shane Turner π¨π¦ New Paintings β’ Montreal Canada, by Shane Turner Art on Feb 23, 2014 1:21:09 GMT 1, Haha, "Shame" Turner Art
I didn't know what to think when I saw this title. Clearly an honest mistake. Thanks for sharing my work.
Was a cool project to work on, currently doing some designs for the bands merch as well which should be good. The video actually uses the band's music which was cool for me as usually I don't have permission to use the music I use in my vids. Anyways just wanted to thank you for sharing my work on here man, it's much appreciated. I'm relatively new on the forum here, been lurking for a bit, trying to get a bit more active and let people know the random artist from Canada actually exists.
Here's the video for any who haven't and want to see it...

Shane Turner π¨π¦ New Paintings β’ Montreal Canada, by Shane Turner Art on Mar 6, 2015 17:02:23 GMT 1, Hey everyone. Will be releasing a new print today at 12pm EST (5pm UK time) at shop.shaneturnerart.com
Print is of a recent painting I did called "Right Here In My Arms"
It's a GiclΓ©e Print on 300gsm Moab 100% Cotton Paper 18"x24" (19"x25" including 1/2 inch white border)
Signed/Numbered Edition of 75 price is 160$(Canadian)
While I'm doing this release myself, I do want to thank GP from Graffitiprints and JP from COA gallery for their advice, as this was my first independent print project. Really happy how this turned out.
Also, here's a time-lapse video of the painting being made for those who like that sort of thing:

Huge fan of what goes on on this forum, very interesting place. Never heard of it til I started working with GP. Been here a while as a member, but don't post as often as Id like, a few times in the sketchbook thread mainly. Thanks again for the support, looking forward to putting out some solid stuff this year, hopefully you and some of the others here will enjoy.

Shane Turner π¨π¦ New Paintings β’ Montreal Canada, by alittle on Mar 7, 2015 15:46:09 GMT 1, earlgreytoast: Love the image, too bad you went the giclee route with these, otherwise I was in for one. I love how Psychameleon just pops off the paper at you. Any particular reason you switched it up?
shaneturner: Thanks earlgreytoast. Main reason was this painting used transparent colors on top of shaded underpainting. The result was a lot of subtle shading, color swirls that I feel would've been ridiculously difficult to try to capture with screenprinting. With giclee I was able to scan the painting in very high quality and make sure every little thing came out exactly how it looks in reality. Even the black background has all the canvas texture which is really awesome up close in person.
I do prefer the texture of silkscreen for my colorful pieces, with no shading, as they're much easier to recreate in layers. There will still be silkscreened pieces with Graffitiprints in the near future.
I'm just not sold on the value of doing tons of extra screens to recreate the shading on a piece like this when I've seen that in can be done a bit more simple and effectively with Giclee to get a really nice print.

Shane Turner π¨π¦ New Paintings β’ Montreal Canada, by Shane Turner Art on Mar 8, 2015 10:01:31 GMT 1, Yes natstan I agree, but what alittle copied into the convo here is what I believe in this case. While I prefer the silkscreen in general, but wasn't convinced it would be worth it on this occasion for the subtle shading. Currently looking into techniques to hybridize the two and see if it's feasible to do something with the shading/underpainting with giclee and then transparent colors silkscreened on top. Time will tell. But could be cool if it worked.

I thought so too earlier, but looking at eelus's recent prints like conjuring and sunmoning, it seems to be able to apply the same in shane's works? Of course, that drives up the cost and price...

Yes and no. While those prints are both really awesome, the shading involved is made from solid colors of spray spattered patterns, which is similar to doing halftones. While that is clearly the look eelus is going for, it wouldn't work the same here.
The shading in my painting is an underpainting with transparent colors painted over top. I'm not an expert on screenprinting by any means, but I would've thought to get the smooth shading to work would require many screens for each color from it's lightest to darkest value in the shaded areas, and then additional screens for all the subsequent colors that blend where blues, pinks and whites hit each other and mix throughout.
I imagine if done correctly it could be really awesome or if not just end up a trapping nightmare for a printer.
That being said if someone on here knows some examples of more traditionally painted shading captured in a screenprint I'd love to see them and try to figure out how it was done.

Shane Turner π¨π¦ New Paintings β’ Montreal Canada, by Shane Turner Art on May 20, 2015 17:31:24 GMT 1, Hey everyone. Exctied to be back and releasing a new screen-print with Graffitiprints on the 28th of May at 3pm UK time at graffitiprints.bigcartel.com
Will be doing a giveaway of one of the prints, please just like or comment on the thread to be entered into the giveaway draw.
Print is 50x70 cm on 300gsm Somerset paper, signed and numbered edition of 125 for 125Β£.
There will also be a variant on White Aluminum edition of 6 for 300Β£ with painted signatures in colored acrylics.
The print is of a painting I made entitled, "Psychameleon 5.1 Remix," for the show we had in NYC last summer. Been working on this since last year trying to perfect a new technique as these prints were made with specials ink that are typically used for Braille applications, in order to replicate the raised texture and glossiness of paint on my original canvases. We wanted to try something different technique-wise from the first Psychameleon print, to capture the vivid colors and texture. Always interesting to see new print techniques and I'm happy to say the result paid off and is definitely the nearest thing in print form to one of my acrylic originals to date.
More pics coming as soon as GP sends them my way...
