Banksy mural vanishes from London, appears at US a, by Deleted on Feb 19, 2013 19:50:35 GMT 1, Frederic Thut, owner of Fine Art Auctions Miami, spoke with Auction Central News and confirmed that the consignor is “a well-known collector,” but declined to provide their name or identify where they are located. Thut said the collector had signed a consignment contract with Fine Art Auctions Miami and that the deal is legal.
“There is always a controversy when a Banksy is sold,” Thut told Auction Central News, “but everything is clear and correct, and the owner has the title and right to sell [the mural]. If a judge gives an order to stop its sale, then we will be more than happy to comply, but I am very sure that the sale is legal.”

It's been going this way for some time, but it would basically mean that as soon as Banksy did another street piece, someone will come along, offer..........say 50K? to the owner of the building (or whatever) and then stick it into auction. I guess the more enterprising property owners will sell their wall themselves.
It's a really stupid state of affairs. Considering the subject matter and message behind the "Poundland Boy", it's messed up if it sells for such a vast amount of money. Unless of course, the seller is donating the proceeds to a charitable organisation, then I guess Mr B won't mind.
No wall will be safe.
Considering the only authentication that you would have for a street piece, is whether Banksy pictures it on his website, maybe he might reconsider that in future. It depends on what he wants out of this I suppose.
So what's the responsible thing to do now if you come across a new Banksy on the side of a building? Contact your local preservation society? Apply for an export injunction? Contact the owner of the building, while also calling up your builder mates? Spray a big cock and balls over it before it can be sold? Take a hammer to it?
Do nothing and let it go where it goes?
Edit: And by "cock and balls", meant "a rooster next to a football and an assortment of tennis balls"...

If they were, bankrobber would not continue to show the same 3 handfulls of of work they've had for 4 or 5 years now along with any newer addition any chance they can. At $10k, maybe; but at $500k that is a different level of buyer that does not necessarily part with their cash because they read an article online. I'm a bit stunned and slightly amused he continues to pursue that (lack of) business plan. He's stubborn if nothing else though I suspect more colorful adjectives have been used.

And for $500,000, why would you buy a supposed Banksy, when for that kind of money, you could buy any Banksy canvas you wanted, or even pay Bansky to come and paint a Poundland Boy on your living room wall.

I don't believe anyone is suggesting you have no idea what you're talking about Wear. Most people couldn't name 3 visual artists if you asked them. They might get Warhol and Picasso but it would be a struggle to get past those for many, that's life. That fact has no bearing on the fact that Banksy is one of the most recognizable visual artists the world over. Neither here nor there and sorry if I came across argumentative. This is an interesting curiosity if nothing else and Banksy is almost always top 5:

The auction house after hearing all the furore will have been worried about litigation and the piece was probably not carrying enough paperwork so would assume when that is cleared up it will be back on the market shortly. Based on the fact that there are no reports that it is actually nicked I assume it will be back on shortly.
Seems likely that it was probably bought off the person who owns the wall in which case legally his to flog and probably got a few thousand for it and is now being resold so although not great assume all above board but a ridiculous price tag. Funny that soon Bansy will only be able to do street work on council property as they will be the only ones who will protect and not flog it
