Eine Camouflage new print, by Hubble Bubble on May 2, 2013 9:10:43 GMT 1, Firstly, I must declare an interest in that I own several canvasses and many prints by Ben, but by no means everything he's done. Like others, I have my likes and dislikes but I'm going to buck the trend and say that I like this. I hear all the time that Ben should 'move on' and 'develop'. To me, this is a genuine attempt to move forward. Alright, it might not be in the direction that those who simply love his letters and nothing else would prefer, but I really like the idea of hiding letters within a 'camouflaged' colour and tile mosaic. It adds another level to his font work and moves his pieces more towards 'contemporary' and away from 'urban'.
Whether that is a good thing in the eyes of this forum is another debate.
I think it has depth and interest and I find myself looking at it to try and peel away the layers. Sometimes art isn't just about pretty pictures.
Yes, it's pricey, probably too pricey for anyone used to buying prints at ยฃ150 - ยฃ250. I know nothing of the print making process so can't comment on the costs of production.
I suspect this might be a case of 'right work, wrong audience'.
Just my thoughts

Eine Camouflage new print, by dmm8878 on May 2, 2013 17:36:28 GMT 1, Apparently Ben is paying four times as much for his U.S. studio space than the U.K. so, i suppose someone has to pay for it. Where in the US is the new studio?

San Francisco - See below.
Details from the Vandalog interview between RJ & Eine:
Eine: I fell in love with San Francisco and a lady called Carrie, plus London is easy for me. I wanted to paint somewhere where walls are harder to get and not everyone is on your side. The move has been fucking slow and expensive, my new studio is 4 times as expensive as my old one in Hastings.

How do they exist, those UKIP lot? I mean who actually funds them?
Turning to this piece, it's pretty clear that diversification isn't working and is not popular. Bugger.
