Paul Insect as investment?, by holden on Nov 7, 2007 0:45:37 GMT 1, Your not going to get many serious answers here, but ill lend my opinion. You came here asking a question like what will the lottery #'s be next week. The truth is nobody knows. Insect has some great stuff and some avg stuff. Ill admit im not his biggest fan. If your looking to make money in art do some research, watch who is hot when, and follow sales, otherwise hire an advisor to do it for you. Its also becomes very difficult to make money when you really like everything you have and you run out of "pieces im willing to sell." All in all, it comes down to a lot of reading, a little luck, and good taste ( or at least taste to the lowest common denominator). Just be discerning when you buy things. Ask youself a few questions before enetering your credit card #. Will I be able to get my money back on this, or more, if something should come up? Will I like this is 10, 20 years? Who represents this artist? Who is collecting this artist? Why are people collecting this artist? Good luck with school. I wish I was into art while I was in college.
+1

Paul Insect as investment?, by alvington89 on Nov 7, 2007 1:42:39 GMT 1, If you treat buying art like buying shares then it's a recipe for dissapointment I'm afraid. With shares you always buy the wrong thing, buy too late, sell too early or loose all your money on a bad tip. Buy the art that you like and if it appreciates then that's a bonus. My own view of Insect's stuff is that he is a very good 'illustrator' but I doubt that his work will appreciate much.

Paul Insect as investment?, by badboi on Nov 7, 2007 12:34:20 GMT 1, you could have easily have said that about banksy 3-4 years ago. I only bought LOVE and PEACE because I think they are good pieces. Definately wary about buying art i'm not keen on. I'll be cautious with this one. What artists (whose art is currently affordable) could make good future investments in prints? I start uni next year and thought that if I buy some decent stuff now I can unload it when I need the cash.
Micallef all the way. Get some of his prints while they are at a record low. Next year prices will rocket following this worldwide tour with the British Museum. Lower edition runs are obviously the better ones to get especially if the print is nice as more desirable and more in demand. Get them while you can is my tip!

Paul Insect as investment?, by dave313perry on Nov 7, 2007 23:35:49 GMT 1, Heres some interesting reading for you lot...duno why i put it in this thread, it just seemed abit redundent!
Official word from artofthestate.co.uk back in the day...
Banksy - Prints and Original Artwork Buyers Guide
The simplest advice I can give you is to only buy from official sources and only buy if you like the art enough to part with the cash required. If you follow these two rules you'll never be disappointed. The official sources are as follows: Banksy Prints: Picturesonwalls.com aka POW
Banksy Original Artwork & selected prints: Lazinc.com
(Please note that artofthestate.co.uk does not sell prints, value prints or send emails when new prints become available).
A set of six new Banksy prints is being released in the run up to Christmas 2006 and maybe beyond. They will range between ยฃ200 and ยฃ300 pounds depending on size and effort.
The first two "Grannies" and "Applause" have already sold out online in hours. So sign up to the email list at POW if you're interested in getting one and be prepared to act fast - the rush for the Grannies print was ridiculous and Applause was even worse (no, I didn't get one either)!
oh my days...how things change

Paul Insect as investment?, by darjeeling on Nov 8, 2007 3:29:58 GMT 1, If you really like Insect and you're buying Paul Insect as an 'investment' I would suggest looking into something like those Gold Bars he produced for the Laz show. The prints you have are desirable ones. But generally speaking the most appreciation usually occurs with original, or unique art-not large editions. Actually, prints can often languish with most artists. Banksy is atypical really. Just don't go crazy for Insect unless you can afford to lose it all. I like Insect but he still has a lot hurdles before he makes it 'big.'

you are not quite the newbie you are making yourself out to be are you? 'what can i invest in as i am going to uni next year' and you have 3 signed banksys and a soup can. Sell those next year kidda and you will be the only one in your halls who can afford a gram and a hooker every friday night! All your mates will be wrapping themselves up in their essays to keep warm and you will have the heating on full blast sipping on jack daniels with your ray bans on.
Im just guessing here, but you know your art, if you can afford to buy banksys on ebay you are not short of money and judging by the way you reeled off the framing details, you are far from being a newbie when it comes to that aspect of collecting either.
I dont personally believe it is possible for someone to invest in 3 signed banksys and have a couple of paul insect prints (who lets face it, is not a household name) and not know anything about other artists. you have been on POW, so you must know about the artist on their roster. Im sorry if i am wrong, but your messages all sound like someone who knows loads about art trying to sound like you know nothing about art. I have no theory as to what your motives are for doing this, but be honest, you know the answers to your questions dont you

Paul Insect as investment?, by nacional on Nov 8, 2007 14:56:32 GMT 1, Another way to go is the ebay route. Which is a bit like the Big Mac guide to see how expensive a country is.
Look around on ebay, see which artist has a lot of people bidding for the works for sale.
This means interest in the guy, which could mean future growth.
Beejoir hits a home run here.
