I'd like to see Whatson get Beefy with the Evolution print and do a version with Martin hand finishing over the Dolk images and then having a big MW tag next in line.

I don't always understand what message Banksy is trying to put across in some of his prints as its not always that clear but I still like them (most of them anyway).

I have seen a certain amount of snobbery by some people on this forum. If they deem the artist to be well established and a 'proper' artist then it's fine to charge what they want. If however the artist is, in their opinion, not up to the high standards that they themselves have set then its an absolute outrage.
I got criticised by the worst troll on here for stating my opinion that if you like it buy it if you don't like it then don't buy it but it really is as simple as that. This is art, it's not an everyday essential so nobody NEEDS to buy it but they do because they enjoy looking at it. All this slagging off of a print because they don't like it gets very tiresome.

To price your works at primary to reflect a secondary market anomaly is just ridiculous and maybe HMP should have a word with the likes of Nick Walker re how good an idea it is to go Billy Big Bucks...
I'm not dissing the regular editions either, if they float your boat then fine. But considering it's probably a £300 framing job then your looking at £1,200 for a hand finished edition which 44 other people will have, and there is sooo much better original art you could spend that sort of money on.

My view would be that why are Banky prints not in the same category to the others (Dran, D*Face etc)? It's public demand that has pushed his prices sky high and out of reach of so many people. He wasn't the first to use stencil art as he copied many ideas from Blek Le Rat.
Don't misunderstand me, I like his stuff but it is relatively simple art (which I know is his appeal) and compared to the likes of Connor Harrington has little skill involved. I'll say again, in not having a dig at him I'm only saying that some people who aren't involved in the art scene at all would look at an unsigned print of say a Banksy Rat and wonder how in earth this is going for soooo much money.
My intention is not to turn this into an anti Banksy post - far from it - it's just to point out that hype and demand pushed up his prices probably more than anyone else. This is exactly the same thing that is happening with Dolk right now too. My girlfriend can't understand why I like his pictures as to her they're just ugly and can't believe the prices I paid for them!
