STOLEN NOLA ALERT, by DrWhite on May 28, 2013 0:01:22 GMT 1, You need to put some perspective around this, a person has had there home broken into and I'm sure had many items, some probably with great sentimental value stolen. One of these items happens to be a print some of us could be offered for sale. Not only do I not want to buy/handle stolen goods, it would be nice to see the culprits caught. I think DD has done the right thing, this is the easiest way of letting a lot of potential buyers know what's happened. I wonder if Banksys ever get 'stolen to order'? You never know this could have been a chancer who Maybe saw it through the window one day and knew enough to know its a Banksy then decided to come back and nick it.
Quite possibly, I hate declaring mine for insurance, then phoning for quotes. Where do they put those details they use for preparing the quotes ? Everything is in there, print details, values & the address where they can be found. Laptops are going missing all the time with those details on them, probably not encrypted.

STOLEN NOLA ALERT, by Deleted on May 28, 2013 0:07:16 GMT 1, Unless the thief plans on holding into it, the moment a buyer checks the details with pest control (as any buyer of a banksy should) it will be found with any luck, I'd just remind buyers to always do that.

I know what you mean. I'm about to buy a Dolk canvas but I'm almost too scared to declare it but I know I have to.
I don't know where this artwork was in the house but any artwork by a window in full view must be considered to be at a greater risk than those out of sight.

STOLEN NOLA ALERT, by misterx on May 28, 2013 0:19:13 GMT 1, This is a double-edged sword really.
Whilst DD's advising the site of the theft makes sense, I cant help but wonder if an " of a Nola" thread may have brought the thief out of the woodwork..a trap, if you like??( assuming of course that the thief intends to sell...) The thief now knows that PC is a no-go due to this thread....

STOLEN NOLA ALERT, by gravity1 on May 28, 2013 0:53:00 GMT 1, I'm not getting the idea that insuring something will then give information of the location of the insured item which could then lead to a theft? Umm the whole point is it's insured isn't it?
And someone stealing a Nola obviously knows what they are doing so if it would ever be listed, it would be listed out of the country (US Only Ebay or Craig's List ) not here and definitely not for a while. Lesson learned is INSURE YOUR PIECES! in the US it costs approximatly $500 a year to insure $100k worth of art. Hard to turn that down. It's a pain with the appraisal process ect ect but it's worth it.

STOLEN NOLA ALERT, by brendan1985 on May 28, 2013 0:58:46 GMT 1, If someone could please point me in the direction of a reputable art insurance company i would be greatful. Most of my artwork is covered under my home and contents insurance but they only cover up to a certain ammount, I have recently purchased a new artwork that is over there max value and i am not prepared to take any risk. I hope that the Nola is safley returned it always bums me out to hear about these kind of things, And i agree the theif would have to have known the value of the print, If it was a random B+E they would have just gone for items that can easily be sold on the street for a quick hit.

STOLEN NOLA ALERT, by gravity1 on May 28, 2013 1:15:27 GMT 1, Most Ins companies, at least in the US, will allow you to increase your coverage in a specific category, often called a "floater". They will require an appraisal of each piece but I found www.valuemystuff.com was very easy and when I buy new pieces I now just submit the new appraisal accompanied with a pic of the piece and it's COA if I have one. Then my Ins adds it and adjusts my premium. Also good to keep a safe backup of all your items pictures and pics of the COAs, receipts ect.

STOLEN NOLA ALERT, by Deleted on May 28, 2013 7:52:42 GMT 1, Agree, no personal attack from @deputydawg, nor insults. He just loves sarcasm, polemic, ironic and cynic humor... as much as I in fact (although I learned with time that Internet is not the best place for this kind of humor as you get more and more haters). It just that sometimes he forgets to add the smiley.
DD is the kind of guy who is trying hard to post comments out of the box just to create polemic and downgrade people. Well, the kind of things I like to do also The thing is that he calls it self-depreciation humor (or sarcasm or whatever) but it is often badly received by original poster.
In general, I am going to say I tend to agree with stuff DD post... especially the regarding the mentality of certain people here trying to fool people or getting most of art they sell (pfff). Now, I just hope DD is clever enough not to get upset with humoristic replies like the one regarding the fact that DD has friends.
As for me, I am glad to see that DD also has stamp collectors in his friends' network and may also collect stamps as all of us here
As for insurance, totally agree, no need to contract an insurer if you don't have all documents and receipts and pictures of insured items.

Ps you never said if that book with the Dolk Toy on the cover is available in English?? Hey Ambo, think the author actually answered on the FB thread, no translation (yet), but I guess she hopes for it to be.

I'm on this forum, I'm obviously a collector, if I call 'us' stamp collectors, I obviously include myself in that.
Rest easy x

Just like I laugh now seeing hand finished piece DOLK at 950, collecting stamps has become ridiculously expensive, moving to trains soon
Anyway, we can move on.
Respect DD

STOLEN NOLA ALERT, by Deleted on May 28, 2013 13:51:08 GMT 1, I know people who can do the whole 'ironic' and 'cutting' humour and they do it very well. The problem is that they all convey this humour in a much more skilful and succint way than DD ever does. The problem with the Internet is that people can't see 'how' you're saying it - as has been pointed out to him maybe a few smileys would get his point across a bit clearer.
if this is his humour then it's quite a clumsy attempt at it. I just feel that if I was making the same remarks and was getting the negative reactions he gets then I'd probably explain that it was just 'humour' but I haven't seen any of this.

Yes indeed it's perhaps the first joke I've seen from him. A clumsy attempt but its good to see him give it a go anyway.
NB - the correct term is actually Fire Fighter. There's no excuse for ignorance.

Yep I'm disappointed in myself for not ignoring him. The best forum advice I've been given is 'Don't feed the trolls'! They only want a reaction so they're best left ignored.
