Dolk Still Rising , by Sacked... on Jun 26, 2013 19:56:19 GMT 1, I spoke to two sources this week who just took delivery of Dolk canvases and the asking prices have been following suit to his prints, or at least the prints in demand. One oversize canvas was listed at just over $30k! I know D is now working on a home town show for Sept where there will be some great stuff, new and old and hopefully will be a small "eye in the storm" that a select few can get originals before this upward surge continues. If you have one of his originals I'd say hold tight but to be honest I have not seen a Dolk canvas for sale on this forum, dealers aside, since I joined. Good to hear from you Mr Lungren.

I suppose you're right but it's no different from the Banksy 'Hype Train' that's been responsible for pushing his print prices to stupid levels now.
I think that the day Dolk's prices go the same way as Banksy's have and I'd be paying thousands for an unsigned and unnumbered Dolk print is the day I won't bother even looking at his stuff anymore.

Yes but lots of artists have been around far longer than that and are still selling at sensible prices. I picked up a Blek Le Rat Beggar AP for ยฃ450 last year and he was the inspiration for Banksy.
The galleries only put his prices up as he got hyped up so much by art collectors that he's now out if reach to many people.
Don't misunderstand, I'm not knocking Banksy and i like some of his stuff, I'm just saying that as far as hyping up an artist goes he is perhaps the ultimate example.

Dolk Still Rising , by M on Jun 26, 2013 21:32:16 GMT 1, on the other hand... Dolk is on the second place in the stencil artist rank and his vision of art is really consequent. I hate all those colourful mural supporting by government. It's also really streety style: man in hoodie, spray paints, brushes, bandanas, tags, etc. He has also a lot of stuff which will work as a print, still waiting for this for example:

I didn't want to make it sound like I was having a go as I genuinely wasn't. I guess my point was that hype is inevitable with up and coming artists and its happened before and it'll happen with others in the future.
It's human nature to want to find the 'next big thing' and at the moment Dolk seems to be fitting that bill for many people.

If he is sooooo hot, ask yourself why is there loads of work still available in his home town at the Reed Projects Gallery?

Dolk Still Rising , by Feral Things on Jun 26, 2013 22:51:09 GMT 1, I don't think the debate is about the equilibrium point between supply and demand; I think the debate is whether the demand curve is driven by the work's artistic merit or speculation about turning a profit in the future. Discussion about Dolk's technique, ideas and influences seems to have been lost amongst all the money talk.

Always liked the Prison Painter image, wish I'd picked it up a year or so ago, but much of the recent work that has attracted the hype, the Riot prints etc. I just don't understand the fascination with at all

Ok mate there's no need to get personal is there?Throwing insults around just shows a lack of maturity on your side. Now do you actually have anything worth saying ordo you just get your kicks from calling people clueless on art forums?

You should remember that forum members are in 2.5 % percent which buy stuff firstly: We all here create trends in street art: check out Martin Whatson or Stik, We can pay more and have a lot more fun for buying art and keeping eye on it than 97.5 percent rest: So guys... stop find next banksy We can create a next banksy together here and rest of the market will accept it

I know but WHY is Banksy known worldwide? It wasn't him or his PR team who hyped him up, it was his fans hyping him up.....just like people are soon to Dolk now.
Dolk will be hyped up quicker as the whole urban art scene is getting much more popular overall than when Banksy started all those years ago where it was much more underground.
If Banksy is soooo hot then why are his prints still available from galleries online? Yes they're at massively inflated prices (as his fans have pushed his prices up) but they're still available to buy.

How people on this thread can even compare Dolk's work to Banksy's amazes me. One has developed and evolved as an artist whilst never losing their sharp, observational wit, whilst the other keeps on producing meaningless, poorly constructed ideas with no real message before turning them into a print to generate profit. The day Dolk does something as innovative as The Village Pet Store & Charcoal Grill is the day I stop lambasting him.....

agree that banksy is number one but there is a lot of space (or a lot of fu*** hirst dots) on art market and dolk is number two.
