Dolk Still Rising , by Deleted on Jun 27, 2013 12:43:18 GMT 1, Banksy is an originator, Dolk it isn't, Banksy is an innovator (in the art world in general), Dolk it isn't. Banky is not just a street artist, he is The guerrilla Street Artist, Dolk it isn't. Dolk is certainly inspired by banksy, Banksy certainly was not inspired by Dolk. Dolk is however a great artist; when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie spend ยฃ1 million on Dolk we can continue this thread..
Yep you're right. The way he used rats in his street art was so innovative and original that I'm sure Blek Le Rat didn't mind that it was actually his idea years before.

Dolk Still Rising , by Harveyn on Jun 27, 2013 13:01:38 GMT 1, I will start off by saying that I am a big DOLK fan and will continue to be so I imagine.
That said and of course IMO only it's happened before with the likes of Nick Walker. That's not to say that this sudden DOLK surge will not have longevity. I much prefer the slow steady growth of artists such as Invader, Dran and Blu of which I do not own any works by the way.
I still believe that in modern day terms the innovators and front runners are Banksy, Shepard Fairey, OS Gemeos, KAWS and Barry McGee.
Of course this genre has far greater achievements at its origins with people like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Dolk is a great artist, I own some of His prints, he is in my personal top six artists: Banksy> Dran> Blu> Dolk> Invader> Vhils. his value will certainly Increase over the years because he has talent, not because he makes the races with Banksy. Banksy is already in history. In a few years his art will be studied in art schools. It is somewhat inappropriate do these competitions between Banksy and Dolk or between any other street artist and Banksy in my opinion. Sorry if I offended anyone.

The fact that a lot of these unimaginative prints remain unsold on eBay at ยฃ150 above cost should tell you something.

A girl with a red balloon, a hoodie with a dog, a rat with a turntable. Hardly cutting edge bur they seem to sell for a fortune.
Like you say each to their own.

People will never hate anything Banksy does because he's Banksy. He could sell a blank piece of white paper and call it snow storm and people would still buy it.

Dolk Still Rising , by Gulosten on Jun 27, 2013 21:31:05 GMT 1, What's up with people always comparing Banksy to other artists?
Banksy is the Michael Jordan of urban art, but is there not room for another Kobe Bryant or LeBron James as well? And does every discussion have to be about who is the best / most famous / most expensive?
Almost all urban artists are influenced by Banksy, just as Banksy was influences by Blek.. Dolk was inspired to start with street art after Banksy visited his hometown Bergen in the year 2000 and did some walls.
If people want something and are willing to pay a certain price, what's the big deal? When artists gain fame, their prices go up, that's the way it's always been...

But you are fooling yourself if you think there isn't a high probability that the bubble will burst at some point when the next flavour of the month pops up. Banksy is a bit more established but even his prints at least imo are very risky in terms of an investment. Buy prints that you love (not because of how much money you might make) Otherwise understand you are taking a big gamble.

Dolk Still Rising , by Coach on Jun 27, 2013 22:09:10 GMT 1, It's a little difficult - this regular talk of hype. Reality is, if someone likes an artists work they are (a) more likely to bang on about that artist, and (b) more likely to own something by that artist. Are they hyping the artist - No!
So those that love Dolk - go for it. Enjoy.
It's the talk of prices increasing, get in quick whilst you can still afford, etc that is more uncomfortable for me - that potentially could be hyping an artists work, and in the long run does the artist no good.
As for talk of which artist is better - well that's just silly talk - it's all completley subjective (it's Banksy btw!).Talk of contribution, influence etc is fair enough - it's part of the history of street art.
Fwiw, I like Dolk's older prints, and I really like his street pieces. So I ain't knocking no one.
It's a little difficult - this regular talk of hype. Reality is, if someone likes an artists work they are (a) more likely to bang on about that artist, and (b) more likely to own something by that artist. Are they hyping the artist - No!
So those that love Dolk - go for it. Enjoy.

Dolk Still Rising , by Coach on Jun 27, 2013 22:13:20 GMT 1, Good point. What was the last print that Banksy released, that people hated? People will never hate anything Banksy does because he's Banksy. He could sell a blank piece of white paper and call it snow storm and people would still buy it.
Not quite right, well for me anyway. I do not like Morons, and would not buy it/hang it. (I see the humour in the message, I just do not find it visually pleasing). There are one or two others that I am not hugely fond of.
