Dolk Still Rising , by Deleted on Jun 28, 2013 10:46:35 GMT 1, Ok this is my final final post I promise ; )
Oh my god - that was said tongue in cheek people - come on try and use some imagination.
I'm assuming that by the times that you post that you're not Americans so you should be able to get the humour.
PS - it's a shame that RX3857 decided to start throwing personal insults around. If that would have been me I probably would have apologised but I guess sometimes being able to apologise requires a level of maturity that he clearly doesn't possess.

On another point: Why would the success of one artist effect the price of another? Make's no sense at all, and obviously isn't a reason for critising Dolk... not that I think anyone is really critising him!
Seems the real point is that many feel Banksy isn't famous just through hype but through talent, and being an innovator in this scene (despite obvious similarities with Blek, etc), while Dolk came along on the back of Banksy's success (doing a similar style) and so can't really ever be concidered so ground breaking. Simple as that!

Dolk Still Rising , by Press Play on Aug 22, 2013 12:16:53 GMT 1, "EVERY NORWEGIAN CHILD has stood in cross-country skis at the bottom of a snowy slope and looked up at his or her father. "So your dad is there at the top of the hill holding a treat and he says, 'Just make it up here, and we'll take a break,'" Is that true? That's a bold fact to throw out there at the start of the article.
That's a pretty good way to describe a typical, norwegian childhood.

Dolk Still Rising , by slow on Sept 11, 2013 17:11:05 GMT 1, Robert Redford makes a film about iconic bulidings, and one of the Iconic bulidings is bulidings Halden prison in Norway. This is the prison that Dolk has made some iconic murals! (Looking forward to see how it will look in 3 D): Dolk has made three murals for this iconic building (prison) namely: Prisoner, Policeline and stripes.
"The concept of Cathedrals of Culture is for the filmmakers to take a subjective look at an iconic building as a window into a society's culture. Wenders has already wrapped principle photography on his film for the series, which examines the Berlin Philharmonic. Other iconic buildings in the series include Halden Prison in Halden, Norway (Madsen), the National Library in St. Petersburg, Russia (Glawogger) and the Oslo Opera House in Oslo, Norway "

Dolk Still Rising , by cafebrazil on Jul 5, 2014 23:09:51 GMT 1, Seems the real point is that many feel Banksy isn't famous just through hype but through talent, and being an innovator in this scene (despite obvious similarities with Blek, etc), while Dolk came along on the back of Banksy's success (doing a similar style) and so can't really ever be considered so ground breaking. Simple as that! Everything is derivative to some degree, IMHO.
Comparing Banksy to Dolk resembles a comparison between Jordan and some baller. Not really a fair competition for a new upstart to be compared with an icon. Besides Banksy has at least a 10 year jump on Dolk.
Dolk does cite Banksy as his muse, but I think Dolk has successfully added his own spin. 'Living Decay' is masterful.
Finally, judgment of hype/talent is subjective; however, don't underestimate 'hype'. The number one living artist (the one with assistants who paint dots all day for him) became the number one living artist riding mostly on 'hype'.
The 5 million people in one of the 'world's happiest countries' certainly know talent when they see it;)

A few things - dolks been around a long old while in street art terms and although there's been a couple of rises in prices there's little to suggest movement is particularly large ... Secondary apart from on a couple of pieces has not really caught fire...so I wouldn't get too excited just yet. Originals still get offered at well under 10k which says something to those watching and some would suggest his best work is behind him too which doesn't necessarily bode well either ...

I concur with the need for skepticism about the market. I'm not intending to suggest that Dolk will rise, although my response invites that interpretation. I just get the impression that this has become the Banksy vs Dolk thread, but I don't necessarily see the need to go on chest thumping and declaring Dolk merely emulates Banksy and simply rides on hype. Dolk and Banksy are two different brands basically. Blek the Rat is to Banksy is to Dolk as the First Xerox GUI is to Macintosh is to Windows 1.0. Someone creates a new thing, someone else improves it and someone else popularizes it. Same old story again and again. Final point the art market is dominated by talent + successful promotion. The most talented artist in the world won't make a blip in the market without promotion, ie 'hype' to spread the art to the world, so we shall always have this tension between talent and promotion for any popular artist, whether mainstream or underground.
