EELUS AFTER THE RAIN FOR SALE OR SWAP, by Fะฏ on Jul 4, 2013 20:22:41 GMT 1, The hysteria around banksy was partly down to someone from a print house shilling bids on ebay. No names mentioned. The said prints being shilled we backdoor prints. Agaeine no names mentioned. Point being if there was no highnsales there would be no high interest from speculators. People have been able to turn art into jobs not just through talent but also hype and ebsy sales.
Another popular figure is well known to have purchased his own work at auction in 2007 for a silly price, that immediately made him sell out of all his work. Need a walker for my dog... Anyone.

Is the eBay thing true or is it a bit of a Banksy urban legend?
A few years ago, around the time that Banksy prints started selling for a lot of money, I sold a Banksy Wrong War. The guy who bought it, told me that there was a group of people (he actually said people on a forum) that were using eBay to artificially raise the price of Banksy prints.
According to this guy (who was obviously trying to buy my Wrong War for as cheap as possible), they would list a print worth, say ยฃ200 (for example), sell them to each other for ยฃ500-ยฃ700+ (again, for example), cancel their transactions, meaning no eBay fees, and they would then re-list the same items, where people would see that the prints have previously been selling for ยฃ500-ยฃ700, and buy them instead for a bargain price of ยฃ400 (or whatever).
Then repeat, and raise the price steadily.
I always thought it was bollocks, and he was just saying that the high prices were artificial so he could talk me down, but this scenario has been mentioned a few times now, so I'm curious, does anyone know that this really used to happen?
