rocking horse shit?, by manty on Nov 15, 2007 19:27:40 GMT 1, I dont get it
No number No sig No prov Not the usual colour Damaged
will be interesting to see what it goes for no other reason than I dont see any value in it at all apart from it looking nice and a great image that I have seen copied on canvasses that sell for £40
Unless of course I have lost the plot, and missed the point ?

The fact that they are backdoor prints meens that they wont be authenticated or given provenance. There are a few in circulation but they weren't ment to be. but as the title says.... rare as rocking horse sh.......... Think with or without prov it'll get some decent money. As for a papertrail, very very doubtfull it exists for any of these prints as the chap that lifted them from the prints most likely wasn't giving out receipts when he sold them.

i know the debate about unnumbered prints has been going on endlessly and some people have a big problem with them, but for what its worth i think these prints are comparable to the warhol sunday b sunday prints. you'll never get provenance from pow or laz but that doesnt make them worthless. in time they may become very desirable and if you can get a papertrail to trace them back to their origin that may be provenance enough.

you would be mad to spend more than a tenner on it surely?

rocking horse shit?, by headphonesex on Nov 15, 2007 19:44:42 GMT 1, I think a lot of the people who slag these off don't have the collector's mindset. For me, as a lover & collector of Banksy's work, having a print that was rejected, in a different shape or colourway is a very interesting item.
I wouldn't go crazy with the money, but as I say, as a collector of his work I personally think these have a value.
To use a musical analogy, if a band had pressed up copies of an album and then decided not to release it.... but 20 copies slipped out into circulation... that would be a hugely collectable item. Albeit entirely unauthorised.
So yes, if you're only interested in the financial aspect, then these aren't a good investment. However as a collector I find them hugely interesting & desirable.

Agree. I managed to get my hands on a HMV (unsigned and un-numbered) and a couple of others recently, and other than the fact that they are backdoor they do not differ in any way from the numbered prints (size, inks, paper stock etc).
I like the pictures/ images and the fact that i managed to get a great print for a few hundred instead of £1700 is in my opinion bloody great. I love the image, but i would admit that if i spent the going rate for the print i would have been a little dissapointed.
Horses for courses as they say, but i am just well chuffed that i managed to get 3 great Banksy prints, for less than the price of a cosher 'Morons'!

Slightly off topic... but if cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110189201161&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=001 can make £51 then I'm sure pretty much anything can happen now... I'm astounded and more than a little confused and stupified.
My cat's got the squits and did a half decent "Heavy Weaponry" this morning... will post the link to the auction on eBay when it's dry... shame I'm missing out on half price Thursday though. Ho hum.

It's such a fucking shame and sham... even the most cursory look around the £50 thread would leave the poor misguided French bloke's head spinning and a £1 up! I sincerely hope he is buying it to screw up the seller's auction but given the length the account has been open think otherwise.
