There is nothing very special about the Faile pieces at all. An 8x10 or 8x12 piece of wood that has been painted? No layering, barley any real detailing on the pieces. I agree with the sentiments that they look to have come straight from the Faile Tower. The price is way too high on those pieces. Now, not sure how many of you have seen the small hand-painted puzzle boxes from Faile but those appear to be an amazing buy for the price (if you got let in on the private sale!)......

Wooster Collective, by behaviorist on Aug 6, 2013 22:32:40 GMT 1, Great point. The puzzle boxes are a real treasure, if you were lucky enough to get one.
But: I just looked back over images from the Faile tower and it doesn't seem, at least to me, that there were many pieces on salvaged wood. For shots: failesites.net/les-ballets-de-faile---february#0
Ironically, I'd prefer almost any piece of the tower over what they did for the Wooster retrospective.

Wooster Collective, by Deleted on Aug 6, 2013 23:02:57 GMT 1, Have to disagree. Will reserve final judgment, but this show looks horrible. A collection of random lesser work by artists who had originally been featured in Wooster for doing interesting/exciting work. If this is a 'celebration', it isn't the type of party I enjoy. Slapped-together nonsense not worthy as a retrospective of a scene that, at one time, was really fresh and exciting. The pricing is sad as well.

On that note, the Pose/Revok that just ended at Jonathan Levine was way more interesting than this Wooster retrospective in my opinion.

Wooster Collective, by chaserawr on Aug 6, 2013 23:14:40 GMT 1, I got it from Corey Helford Gallery, at ye old "Art Collector Starter Kit" which looking back is an absolute terrible name for a group show. I just got lucky getting that guy, sometimes it pays off being the persistent fellow on the phone.
Heres a cool snap of it
Thanks.

Wooster Collective, by stvro22 on Aug 7, 2013 21:48:21 GMT 1, It always seemed that people have a love hate relationship with Marc and Sara. Some think they did a lot for the scene early on but over the last number of years have been out of the loop unless it's more on a commercial type of basis. Marc tweeted that he was more impressed with the artists flying in for the show more so than the work. I can see why.

Wooster Collective, by Feral Things on Aug 7, 2013 22:06:39 GMT 1, Over the last 10 years as a whole the Wooster Collective has been a fantastic destination to find interesting and exciting work but I think that's less true of the last few years. The days of them going out and finding something new seem to be long gone and I'm presuming the vast majority of what they post nowadays is work which has been emailed to them by agents, promoters and artists.
In that respect the show seems pretty representative of the current state of the Wooster Collective, although perhaps not in they way they would have liked. Many of the artists appear to have taken the easy approach to this show much like Wooster Collective have been taking the easier approach to the website.
To be fair to them though, I'm sure the Wooster Collective have more important things to be doing with their time than just entertaining us and there's still some really nice work posted up on the website and there's some really nice work in this show too.

Wooster Collective, by pcant on Aug 8, 2013 0:29:06 GMT 1, I'll freely admit this is, in part, because I don't have a spare $15K lying around to spend on something from the show, and there are some truly nice pieces, but honestly, once artists start selling work for that kind of money, it's not a fledgling scene any more. More power to the artists who can command these prices, but as the market climbs every higher and the "regular folks" can only watch, it seems less about countering the "established" art market and more like fitting right in to the gallery scene, glasses of chilled chardonnay and all. But as I said, surely I recognize the sour grapes on my part.

Hopefully they don't forget this when they make it

Couldn't disagree more. This is a 10 year anniversary show. I wish that Wooster had chosen half the artists they chose and asked each artist to do a portfolio of their work over the past decade. Faile's work stood out because it told a story. This show was a celebration of the progress these artists have made and how far the scene's come and Faile's work illustrated it perfectly.
Can you imagine if BAST, Shep, D*Face and the other big guns had each submitted 10-12 pieces that exemplified their artistic growth? This show woulda slayed.
