Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by dkla on Nov 1, 2013 5:51:52 GMT 1, Amen to that! Tho I'm not sure we can think the establishment hasn't been changed since Banksy started doing his thing his own way. I think a lot of minds have been enlightened over the years thru his work. I think he catalyzed a new excitement for art in general. Yes I do. He has certainly moved people (I mean emotionally but also, lol, physically). Banksy is an artist in every sense of the definition - and a hugely important artist at that. I think his punk vision has changed things in its own way. I thought back in the day, and now more than ever, he's a hugely important artist of our time, if not the most.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by dkla on Nov 1, 2013 6:32:27 GMT 1, gorpetri $615,000 looks the winner!! Well done: Great painting by a Great artist for a Great cause. The buyer, artist and charity all win. That's the way Banksy does things. Everybody comes home with something bigger than what was there before. Everybody is a winner.

One last thing I need to get off my chest before I retire: a reader's comment in Salt'z thread suggesting that Banksy himself acknowledges his art is less than great. I know Banksy jokes about not taking anything too seriously, but do we really think he thinks that what he puts up is banal? No. There are layers of messaging and interpretation in almost all of his artwork. It's designed to have us take another look at ourselves and our relationship with culture/society...and question it. He creates tension, often with a wink so we can be entertained while revisiting our perspectives. Clearly lot of thought goes into those communications, including placement, etc. I believe Banksy does take his work seriously and testament to that is its quality. And testament to its quality is the interest/conversation of the world, and interest in what he will do next.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by rowan on Nov 1, 2013 8:38:45 GMT 1, Based on Banksy's post on his website - I wonder if the print I picked up at the thrift shop is actually real. ย Could well be... looks so close to the image on the site. Lucky man, and fellow forum members you've gifted them too!!!
Very nice!
Those would make a nice print!...
Hopefully you've picked yourself up a last bit of hidden treasure from the show!
Be nice to see a print release but It's just wishful thinking! Plus the chances of actually getting one are just as small as one being released in the 1st place!

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by naughtyshorty on Nov 1, 2013 11:19:46 GMT 1, Wonde what will happen to some of the pieces from the show - they are not hugely easily saleable (would you really want a semi stuffed puppet animal?). Banksy must have a big warehouse somewhere with an awful lot of 'shit' in it. Makes me feel better about my loft at least...

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Wearology on Nov 1, 2013 12:07:54 GMT 1, I have received a tremendous amount of PM's about the potential I Love NY Print. 1. I bought 5 and gave away 4 to forum members for free. 2. Mine is not for sale. 3. I am still giving them away for free even though they might be real now. 4. I asked the person selling them to sign mine, when I originally bought it they were unsigned. 5. The total edition is 250 prints. 6. The reason I think they may be real is that the person selling them was a bit mysterious and didn't want to be photographed by anyone. 7. The other reason is that they were at the location of the Thrift Canvas within minutes of public announcement of the piece. 8. The other reason is because Banksy posted on his web site almost the exact I love NY image but as a T-Shirt downloadable PDF. 9. If they are real or just a memento from the show please find attached the persons signature that either made them or was asked to sell them. 10. Whoever is able to track down this person will win the best Banksy detective ever contest.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by spirit on Nov 1, 2013 12:15:31 GMT 1, Amen to that! One last thing I need to get off my chest before I retire: a reader's comment in Salt'z thread suggesting that Banksy himself acknowledges his art is less than great. Artists become historically "important" for being path finders and changing the history of art itself.
Whatever idiots like Saltz think of Banksy's art in terms of individual pieces etc (which he clearly doesn't seem to comprehend anyway), there is no doubt whatsoever that he is breaking completely new ground in the way an artist communicates with his audience. This "residency" has been a brilliant example of that.
You could almost look at the entire residency - the pieces, the organisation, the website, the audio etc - as being one single piece of art - and there has never been anything like it.
It is for this reason that I agree with you that Banksy will go down as one of, if not the most important artist of our generation.
