Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by dkla on Nov 7, 2013 4:32:40 GMT 1, No kidding. I think the man has enough respect for himself as to not consider his work literally trash, worthy of a dumpster. Certainly he knows there are enough "fans" out there who believe in his talents as a true artist. The Central Park prank was an intelligent commentary on the art world, not a desperate fire sale.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by dkla on Nov 7, 2013 7:20:13 GMT 1, Well OK, I've had a few Irish coffees and just got back from a contemplative smoke, and I've been thinking... Here we go: as much as I'd love to know the man and his mindset, I don't. I don't know Banksy shit. As I think about Central Park, honestly I'm still unsure of what his communication was to us. On the surface, it's a commentary on the art world -- that the "name" is more important than the art itself, as propagandized by the art establishment. (Now would be a good time to say "excuse me" for a revisited forum topic.) So that train of thought goes, if we don't think it was really done by the man himself, then it's worthless...no matter how much we may love something, it's not worthy of our money unless it's the real deal by a "sanctioned" artist. Instead we should be making art investments. Like, "Hey it's a smart buy, surely it can be flipped for a profit down the road", and all of that. Do you think Banksy's meteoric rise to artistic prominence (there is no question there...do a Google search) exaggerated that mindset in the past several years? Well, I like most of you really love Banky's art. For me since back in 2004, before all of the 2006 hype. It was just stuff I liked and it was very affordable. With my income at the time, I could afford to buy a signed artwork from this guy. We're not talking about thousands of dollars here. Another perspective: do you think that maybe Banksy in his $60 Central Park installation was testing the loyalty of his "fan base"? Hell, looking at those canvasses, if I was walking through the park with my wife and kid, I would've stopped for sure. I'm quite sure that, as a family we'd have talked about, "Look at that...! We love Banksy! These knockoffs are really good!"... and probably we would've discussed how nice it'd be to have one of those up in our son's room, for fun because we loved it and it was so cheap. BUT then I'm sure I would've thought, "Well fuck, this is a rip off of Banksy and I don't want to support it. That's bullshit." I'm pretty damn confident I would've walked by right then. My point is that in the past I've been in a position of seeing many-a-Banksy knock-off and have always felt the same. What would make me want to support that crinkly old man and his "fake" Banksy wares? The fact that the Central Park canvases looked quality (of course looking back they really were beautiful, eh)? You could chalk that up to a great forger. I'm sure we all could've been tricked a hundred times on the streets of London or NYC or wherever in the past few years. So rather longwindedly, what do you think was the point of that Central Park prank? To celebrate those who buy art for the image/message solely without pretext (or perhaps with some pretext that they were at least Banksy's images)? Or, to test those who are respectful of the artist, to see how loyal they really are when a quality "knock-off" is presented to them at an assessable price? I don't fucking know. All I know is, I'd still want to only support Mr. B with my money knowing it was really going to him (or his charity, knowing him), rather than some extraordinarily skillful counterfeiter, no matter how well done the image. HA, but who really knows anything regarding Banksy? Perhaps Banksy's "You complete me", with a dog pissing on a fire hydrant, is a commentary on the sanctity of marriage...or maybe he's talking about unconditional True Love. The brilliance of his artwork is that there's always more than one way to look at it. So we keep thinking...

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by qbertplaya on Nov 8, 2013 2:04:23 GMT 1, also a leaving party bash at Sacred........... anyone going to this? Looks like it's also an opening reception for this exhibition sacredgallerynyc.com/re-thrifted-group-gallery-exhibition where all the participants have taken something from a thrift shop and repurposed it, a la Banksy's "Banality" piece.
Wish I could go and sell some of my prints, but I imagine they wouldn't take too kindly to that.
Speaking of which, I mailed out 20 tubes today, to folks in the US and in various countries in Europe, so many thanks to those on this board who ordered and paid. I appreciate your support! Still have some available, so please do PM me if you're interested.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Invaded 420 on Nov 8, 2013 11:20:20 GMT 1, Listing is now gone, pretty sure it was cancelled this was a reply I got from the guy after I told him it was misleading ''I was nervous about that too. So I reached out to Ebay to see if there was anything misleading about the post and they told me no, that I was in the clear because I was specifically saying I don't know these to be real Banksy work. Just that the stencil/paint quality is really good. The cone was found in the same area but the person who found it didn't take it at first. I went back to that same area, saw it, and grabbed it cause there's paint on it.'' Guess he didn't tell them that he made the story about finding them up an painted them himself haha he's now cancelled it. Hopefully he's stuck with the lot

I also wonder if the ebayer reads these posts.
