Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Coach on Oct 4, 2013 20:46:56 GMT 1, What would you do if you came face to face with a Banksy street piece and had an opportunity to take it - Would you? The reason I ask this question is because that is exactly what happened to me when I went to go see the 1st Banksy mural and quickly realized that the sign could be very easily removed. My 1st thought was - I can't believe Banksy's Team didn't cement glue that sign down. My 2nd thought was if I don't take it I am sure that it will be gone within the hour as darkness started to fall. My 3rd thought was that I have never stolen a thing in my life and why would I start now. I guess we all learn a little bit about ourselves when we are presented with scenario's that usually just occur in our heads like what if I won the Lottery dreams. After standing by the piece for quite some time I realized that I should be the guy who protects the sign not the profiteer who would eventually take it and try to sell it via Twitter. I was hoping that when the mural got destroyed the sign got vandalized too. In retrospect I am glad that I didn't take it but the thought of a free Banksy original on my wall does bring a smile to my face. I was curious what you guys would do if you had the opportunity to take a Banksy street piece.
For me it's simple. If its obviously a street drop, not attached, then it can be taken. If its attached, or obviously put somewhere where the artist planned it not to be taken, it's for everyone, and should be left, even if ten minutes later some pillock will take it. So I wouldn't have taken it. I think you did the right thing J. Respect.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by lifeonwalls on Oct 4, 2013 20:56:49 GMT 1, I'm hoping there's another film in the works - hopefully with lots of footage of hipsters talking about Banksy a la the 'Exit' scenes with the phone booth.
That would be amazing.

I wouldn't try and sell it, but would love an original framed Banksy in my gaff.

I like the thought of it all being documented- I think that's s v big likelihood .... And like u say, you wouldn't want to be that guy caught in the act ....

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Coach on Oct 4, 2013 21:24:10 GMT 1, Afr1ka - I knew the moment I left the that darkness was creeping in and so was temptation. The sign seemed purposely left unsecured as to almost bait someone to take it so they could be recorded for later public embarrassment. It seems that every time I go look at Banksy's street pieces in the city that the same guys are there with camera's that are not typical tourists or locals. I got a feeling this whole charade is being documented as part of a bigger project than just art on a wall throughout NY.
Interesting thought J. Only time will tell.

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Chrisp on Oct 5, 2013 0:00:30 GMT 1, What would you do if you came face to face with a Banksy street piece and had an opportunity to take it - Would you? Respect. I was there for the taking if you ask me. Invader uses cement for the sole reason he doesnt not want people to take the work down, and rightly so. Banksy is the most popular street artist on the planet and the sign had a couple of screws in it. So 1/ he didnt care or 2/ it was supposed to be taken?
