It's a sad state of affairs as this was auctioned for charity, but it was always likely to happen. Get it in a legitimate auction; and not online where idiots can exist anonymously. PS Anyone know where i can buy a second hand kitchen?

The problem with getting it into "a legitimate auction" like Sotheby's or Christie's is that they certainly would have lost a significant chunk as commission to these auction houses rather than having the funds go to the charity. The site Housing Works used, Bidding For Good, is who they usually use to run their more typical auctions. I'm super bummed about this happening to Housing Works -- I donate goods there frequently and buy second hand things from them all the time. Such a jerk, that gorpetri. =( |

Its one thing for taggers or critics to shit on Banksy's works during the residency, but cmon really this was for a charity and really fucked up that people would back out on a good cause and mess it up for others. Some people are such assholes lol.
Oh and hi qbertplaya, I bought one of your prints in front of housing works (lol i had a green hoodie on), and put it in a frame and put it on my wall and looks good on the blue. thanks agin!

Yup, auction houses (some) regularly do this for charitable causes, either by inserting lots into a regular sale or throwing a major charity sale with no charges whatsoever, not even for the promoting of. |

I have no doubt that they are now aware of what they purchased and maybe they have already taken advice re selling/keeping etc., there again maybe they just like the feeling of owning an original canvas by Banksy?.
