Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by Robert Stevens on Oct 9, 2013 0:04:41 GMT 1, Looks like the balloon's getting covered over with board - pic on insta Yep. Saw that. The person who posted it said it was getting covered with "plexiglass" but whatever it is it isn't transparent.
Edit: It is plexi. Guess they hadn't pulled the liner off in the pic I saw.

The chaos and media attention will make for a good watch. The cameraman and interviewer are both being filmed arent they?. So who's the cameraman filming the cameraman? And where is her report? And is it normal practice for an interviewer to ask a person to spell their name on camera? And am I reading too much into this?

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by graffuturism on Oct 9, 2013 1:32:12 GMT 1, "New York calls to graffiti writers like a dirty old lighthouse. We all want to prove ourselves here,"
Like I said earlier NY is the proving grounds and thus the locals attitude to out of towners trying to make a name for themselves. Imagine if your a surfer and everyone from around the world is trying to surf your beach to prove themselves and get a picture saying hey I surfed pipeline or whatever. The locals get irritated a bit.
Also I had a feeling that if he is in town he would be hanging or associating with other top artists and graffiti artists, thus the Os Gemeos cover collab definetly leaves clues to this. Great article all around.

Obviously. Also, I'm out of wine... If people buy 1 ton wall chunks don't see why they wouldn't buy a door. Always wondered how one would display a chunk of wall like that. I see them at auction in some monstrous plexi box which makes them even more unappealing and can't imagine where that would be placed outside of a museum, exhibit or gallery.

You can see more and better graffiti in most Latin American and European capitals.

As far as surfers go, if a tourist invades your local beach, then yes, you might get terrirtorial. But if Kelly Slater or Laird Hamilton show up, you pretty much stay out of their way and watch them do their thing.
The guys who are defacing Banksy's work are showing themselves to be talentless hacks. At least when Robbo got into it with him, he tried to be creative. He might not have been as clever or talented as Banksy, but he landed a few punches and at least made it an interesting fight.

I would tend to lean heavier upon words like 'famous' and 'widely well-known', as opposed to measuring degrees of 'talent', 'quality', 'clever', etc. (even though I might strongly agree), for the sake of strongest argument.

Those were his words in the quote not mine. I never said he is trying to make a name for himself. One thing is interesting about it is that he references himself as a graffiti writer by saying we, not a street artist. This is interesting to me because this whole exhibition could be possibly linked to that attidude in a way. They dont call New York the graffiti Mecca for no reason, maybe this exhibition is his way of paying homage. Even if the kid writers arent taking the olive branch he is doing his thing. Also I have said multiple times now it would seem he does have the respect of the top writers besides this Team Robbo guy Omar. The Os Gemeos collaborative cover is definetly a statement.
As far as the NY comment that is might be living off past fame, the whole scene is spread around the world now there isnt one city that can claim its doing more than any other its an ebb and flow. Yet there will always be one city that is Home to Graffiti and that is NY.
Im sure even Slater when he first arrived at Pipeline got his share of attitude, one thing about any sport or competitive type of dealings is that no one is annointed king all kings or legends earn it. I think Banksy is attempting to earn it with this 30 days even though everyone has already crowned him. Banksy seems blue collar and would rather earn that crown.
