Dot Dot Dot โข Napoleon, by Deleted on Nov 14, 2013 22:06:37 GMT 1, I just like the image and the way it's done. Also like the subtle colour in it's folded hat. If it has a story behind it i would like to know also, but i just think it is a nice image.

Dot Dot Dot โข Napoleon, by My Name is Frank on Nov 14, 2013 22:16:25 GMT 1, I bought moona Lisa when it came out, this is similar, it's a pun, when the joke tires, just hope you haven't framed it and can shift it on. The problem with images without meaning or depth is they're like wallpaper and you'll grow tired of it just as quickly.
Not digging this out at all, just an opinion on the piece, it's what I think the meaning is. His bloke with fingers for gun was far more challenging and interesting, that would be worthy of a frame, this Napoleon is the same As his squirly line bloke prints. Anyone got a framed moona on the wall out of interest?

Dot Dot Dot โข Napoleon, by Deleted on Nov 14, 2013 22:20:57 GMT 1, Until we learn to critically evaluate what we're buying and why, this scene will continue produce artist after artist who think it's fine to place the minimum amount of effort into pushing it forward.
Scratch that, just think about what you're buying for long enough to realise 'nice' doesn't mean you'll like it in a months time.
ddd's gallery produced art has simply followed Dolk/Pobels finincial model whilst adding nothing. In fact going for a less meaningful angle. I'm not sure that's something we should be lauding, or more simply than that buying.
Everyone is of course entitled to buy what they like, but although art and charity aren't mutually connected. This is one print (amongst many in fact ) where that 100 quid should go to a charity instead to my way of thinking of what will make you feel 'nicer'.

Bad choice of words ... I meant : I like the small amount of vibrant color in contrast with the black and white.

Dot Dot Dot โข Napoleon, by Ruggs on Nov 14, 2013 22:25:18 GMT 1, Is he? Sounds like you're jumping on the bandwagon Ruggs. Nope! When news of the release of the 'Napoleon' canvases came about I liked it. Hadn't a clue who DOTDOTDOT was. Think I commented on the thread at the time. And when news of the print release was posted on here I still liked it. Didn't think i'd get a sniff of one but got lucky. Not impressed with all his work. This will probably be the only piece by him i'll ever own. I pretty much buy what I like belongs its within my budget. Anyway, keep your eyes peeled, it'll be framed and hung early in the new year. I'll make sure I PM you a picture.

Dot Dot Dot โข Napoleon, by My Name is Frank on Nov 14, 2013 22:42:12 GMT 1, Oh f**k, maybe dot dot dot knows that! Napoleon in exile insisted that the house in which he was kept was continually freshened up, re-painted. The paint in question contained arsenic, widely believed to have been the poison to have killed him. That is conspiracy as officially he died of cancer, but the arsenic was in the paint, and he did ask for lots of redecoration. Maybe that's the depth, kunstrassen, you have given me an angle! like I said I'll always look for a reason

Dot Dot Dot โข Napoleon, by Deleted on Nov 14, 2013 23:23:25 GMT 1, Napoleon is a famous historic figure
In Many iconic pictures of him he's wearing a distinctive hat
The hat is replaced for comedic effect.
The paper hat represents a childlike representation of the real hat, signifying a joke at what his leadership/ wars etc 'meant'.
Now the hard bit is taking analysis and seeing if that grows a warmth in your very soul for the image that means you can not live without it.
Too much ?
But them this place is so often too little.

Art IS subjective. Stop judging what other people like. Makes you seem as if you 'really needs to grow up a bit.'

A separate image has nothing to do with this discussion, unless you want to broaden the debate which would need a separate thread.

Pretty simple really and been done to death (this is the Banksy board right? . Take a historical/well known figure and add something not serious, silly on it! In this case a pink paper hat!
Looking for any deeper meaning in this is a fools errand. Beyond that you buy it for the image, I would question anyone buying this for the "laugh". my .02

I went for this piece and missed out. Have to be honest I'm glad now, it's not really grown on me...maybe it would of if I'd got it
As for what it means? I think he's just having a pop at an important historical figure- we see the same thing every day with the political cartoons in the paper. Has it got a huge amount of depth? No, not really but I think he's just having a go at doing something irreverent and tongue in cheek.

I am also willing to pay the money they ask me to pay for the piece... What more does everybody want? Meaning?.. Meaning of life? Meaning of the artist's life? Meaning of art? Shouldn't we be using another thread for that? Some pieces have some bigger message in them others don't. With some pieces i can see that bigger message with others i don't. I just buy and put on display what i like.
