Stik at Dorian Grey Show and new Print release, by chads007 on Dec 13, 2013 10:12:02 GMT 1, They had prints pre-tubed and they sold all that were pre-tubed. ย no idea if they had more in the back, but i saw the list they were keeping to track the numbers and keep match number sets together and if there was a big chunk being held back it was not obvious. ย think it was mentionedย all the mini canvases sold to the first folks in line. ย there were a number of people that bought a full set of one of each colorway so it does not seem hard to believe that they all sold. ย Just to echo what everyone else has said about STIk, was a very stand up dude. ย waiting in line to pay i found one of the NFS sketches that i had to have. ย i quitely asked if NFS realy ment MFS and he said sorry, but did a sketch for me. ย Dig his work or not, tough to find fault with how he treats folks. ย There was a little kid at the gallery and STIK made him feel like about the most important person on earth, letting him help with the live painting. here's the sketch

Why do galleries do this? Do they really think someone wants to frame the whole set? They must know they're going to flip them!
But that's the point isn't it... they want them to flip them and increase the demand for the next show...

I don't think they were expecting to sell a complete set. I think there may have only been 1 or two sold. I don't think I saw an unhappy customer in there, fwiw. The gallery did a stand up job. Anybody who knows Chris, knows how hard he works to be fair. He's a stand up person and gallery owner. (I recognize your sarcasm, FYI).

I was there for a tiny bit behind the scenes and know first hand he worked very hard to find the fairest way to distribute the prints. And I say that as someone that did not get one. I bought something else, and because of the extreme demand and small run I did not buy a print.
The mini canvas' were absolutely NO presale. You had to be one of the first in line to get one. I was number 5. I'm pretty sure everyone that had the opportunity picked one up.
Personally I think it was very successful. Most people that came in person to get prints got something. They also had AP's, and signed limited edition book cover proofs available as well. I did not see anyone leaving angry because they did not get anything.
He had to balance the international fans and the New York fans that attended the show. I think he struck a successful balance. Not everyone was going to be happy no matter what was done. There simply are more fans than prints produced.

Have to agree with this comment knowing that there are Stik fans that wanted prints that have now gone without. Don't envy the gallery when you can't please everyone though.

i see what you mean. No doubt that owners are nice and chatty but stik is well known artist. They should realize that people around the world would appreciate if they had oportunity to buy his pieces. Especially when they sent strong signals that some stuff will be available online. So once again they have no strategy for online customers. Best
