DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by Deleted on Nov 20, 2013 15:31:38 GMT 1, Hello Forumerers! I have a framed print ("Scary" by Eine) up in Newcastle which I'd LOVE to get down here to London and on my wall. If any London members are going up for the show tomorrow and would be agreeable to bringing it back with them, I'd REALLY appreciate it. I can arrange for the print to be dropped off to you in the queue, or, a place that's convenient for you. Also, I'd be more than happy to help towards your travel cost Cheers, UmBongo, innit! I can try help you out mate. Need to consider it might be snowing in newcastle so probably not good to have it out in the queue? Maybe someone could drop it to me at the station before i come back? No need to pay for travel dude. And at least now i know i won't be coming home empty handed! Hey JayTown. I'm just trying to see what I can arrange now. I'll drop you a PM later. Thanks for replying

I think a few pieces were very strong, U & V in particular. U study was the strongest piece. I think the preview suffers from size perspective. In person folks will flip.
If you can't hang with some of these pieces, I'd say you're not a fan. I'd love to hear a critique instead of a dismissal.
Personally I felt the wolf's mouth should have been closed. It ruined that piece for me. And it could have been very strong with the collar. The proportions of the Bison are a bit off as well. The forward facing antelope is the strongest canvas and I love the darkness of the lion. I wish I could see all these huge canvases in person.

Totally agree. The pieces are big, will all look pretty good next to each other in an gallery setting. Though I think just the sheer size will make them look at home/office/anywhere else. It is a shame they are just heads because of how well Dal expresses motion in his bigger street pieces.

I didn't bother getting on the list, Laz hates me and I was fortunate to be able to get a canvas direct from Dal.

Is an opinion that his previous works have been stronger and clearer a dismissal - most of the images this time round seem to have been drawn too tightly, its very difficult to pick out some of the details especially on the bear and the side view antelope (sorry but cant be arsed to pull out the names). His usual loose style which always seems to capture movement and expression so well is missing in the most part
And i'm sure if I had to I could live with any of them on my wall but the truth is i am not going too pay 4-5.5k for something i feel is weak. Perhaps you are confusing the terms fan and art fag - as a fan I am allowed to express my opinion - as a fag i would smear his s**t on my walls

I wonder if seeing them in person would spread the detail out a bit. I do know what you mean about the tightness. I don't like it in the car paintings at all. I think Dal is using white on the paintings to keep it detailed. Again, small photos lose detail. I agree that the profiled antelope is not as strong as the forward facing one as well.
I respect your opinion btw, I just feel differently in some areas.

I'm gonna check the show but not tomorrow as not buying anything, as not a huge fan to be honest - but I've only seen his work on t'internet before now so not the best basis to form an opinion.
I do think though that the red bg street piece he did in London is the strongest thing i've ever seen from him, I know technically the way he draws is pretty much amazing but I think it's that twee tea-stained bg effect he's so reliant on, like when you used to make pirate treasure maps when you were a kid, that puts me off 99% of his work!! Great score for the north east though so defo won't miss out on a proper look..

DALeast π¨π³ Wuhan, China β’ Street Art β’ Based in Cape Town, by bmerel on Nov 21, 2013 6:02:12 GMT 1, i guess i could do that but, as usual, i'm stuck between the opposite poles of fear (that I won't get what I could!) and greed (hoping I make a killing!), which makes it difficult to figure out what a reasonable reserve might be. Think I'll ponder it and see if i can't find a happy middle ground inside my typically ridiculous self.
Start with what you actually paid as a base and set that as your reserve (or NEAR what you paid as reserve). Put that baby up for 10 days and you'll get your money. At least this way you'll reach many more people. Otherwise, trade the fuckin piece to me!!!
Cheers and good luck however you go about it.
