OS Gemeos ๐ง๐ท Sรฃo Paulo Graffiti โข Brazil Street Art, by skanky on Jul 6, 2008 12:52:32 GMT 1, I've contacted the gallery by phone and by email twice over the past 2 weeks and was told I'd be emailed momentarily and I'm yet to get an email with inventory, dimensions, and pricing. I suppose I was too patient but I'm not going to play cat and mouse to buy a piece. I know from the phone call that there was a ton of stuff and the price sure did sound very reasonable. The most expensive piece was 96 inches square and they were asking $45k for it, so by now I presume there are slim pickings of whatever remains. As they say, "another bus we'll come around in 15 minutes." The pics on flickr of the art itself are incredible. I'm very fond of their work; i just wish I had a decent opportunity to grab some of it.
Good luck Lee I have had the same response , I contacted them back in Apri then phoned them a few times before the show opened and was told I would def be contacted. Very disapointed with the service I was given. Looks like a blinding show though !

I've been in touch likewise. No replies to email - though very courteous on the phone.
The show from the fantastic photos I've seen appears to be the show of the year - by quite a long way.

Same story here, been in contact regarding the Gem's for over 2 years with deitch - have been promised prices / details etc. from this show a number (like lots) of times, but have been sent nothing.
I know they care greatly about the twins and are not wanting to rush sell the pieces, and want to ensure pieces go to the right places - museum collections etc. but can't help feeling disappointed / let down to some respect. Having said that, I don't know how many / which pieces are sold, or if there's anything left at all.
Still have my fingers crossed though.

Unfortunately some galleries act that way though not the ones that I do business with. I suppose we can simply enjoy the art itself and be glad that most conduct business in a different manner.

I do agree Lee
Although, I sometimes feel as though it's always the same people who get first call on pieces, and lesser mortals never seem to hear a thing. This deitch situation is frustrating, but preferable to never hearing a thing and a select few ending up buying most of the show.

OS Gemeos ๐ง๐ท Sรฃo Paulo Graffiti โข Brazil Street Art, by Alan Craig on Jul 6, 2008 16:47:20 GMT 1, I do wonder if Deitch are just being really cautious in relation to who they sell too, to ensure that they protect their artists - not wanting to see pieces immediately flipped etc.
Not hearing YET (!?) from them (prices / details wise) is annoying from a buyer point of view, but perhaps preferable to the artists in the longer term.

OS Gemeos ๐ง๐ท Sรฃo Paulo Graffiti โข Brazil Street Art, by lee3 on Jul 6, 2008 17:51:32 GMT 1, >>>Not hearing YET (!?) from them (prices / details wise) is annoying from a buyer point of view, but perhaps preferable to the artists in the longer term.<<<
Imo, it's simply not professional. I've always subscribed to the first come, first served model as opposed to some biased "one needs to make the cut" model. Personally, I don't enjoy those games and as I said before there is plenty of other wonderful art out there. The gallery is in essence saying we don't need your business and that's fine by me. From my vantage point, everyone should be given a chance and if they burn that opportunity by quickly offering it up for resale without first approaching the gallery, then you simply cross them off the list in the future for purchases. In this case, the gallery could have easily told us all that the show will probably sell out on the wait list alone and offer to add us to the wait list for the next show but that never happened. It's quite simply really.
Instead we were baited along with pleasantries and lip service over the phone and told we'd have the information momentarily only to be dismissed out of hand as soon as that phone is hung up. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and figure they just screwed up with me but they obviously did this to many on this thread alone. That's their choice and galleries behave differently the world over but it's not the way I'm personally going to do business so it's an easy choice from where I sit even if an email hit my inbox right now with the most gorgeous piece of art in my price range. I'll simply enjoy the photos of the work but collect other artists until Os G are at another gallery or something hits the secondary market at a price that I think is fair.
It sounds like the prices were on the low end given my expectations so I would not be surprised to see some of it hit the tape sooner than later. We'll see how well the gallery does at preventing this work from seeing the secondary market in due time anyway.

I'd imagine they were bombarded with enquiries from the UK and J Deitch is most definitely an extremely responsible seller of work by his artists. Sounds as if he has kept the prices reasonable (he could have sold for much more) and I bet each piece has been placed carefully and I also don't expect to see any of these on the 2ndry market. Os gemeos are set for a long and fruitful career under his guidance. I'd say he has done a great job.

but they were pretty bloody clear on more than one occasion that pieces would be available. The fact that they were inundated with calls from the UK or wherever else is part of the course.

I was in the same boat. If I had to guess I'd say as the show grew closer everyone and their brother was calling/emailing them. Only a few months back you could pick up OS G pieces and now everyone wants one. I didn't take it as an insult, I reckon they were probably overwhelmed and find it hard to trust all this recent interest so they decided to blank the lot of us!
I'm just glad I got one already!

Contrary to what everyone else's experiences, I've received a very good service from the gallery in the past couple of weeks. I only wish I could see the exhibition in person rather than on a computer screen!!

No, there was plenty available as of a week or so ago when they finally emailed me the list. There was nothing left that I personally wanted but there was definietly availability. There were more than a fair number on hold too and you can usually count on a percentage of those falling through and being offered up for sale again. I'm sure by now they will email you availability if you call and ask.

Only just started to appreciate the twins work (Only just getting to grips with my taste ;)sad but true )- very bold use of colour throughout and great vibrancy, fantastic depth and poise of the subject matter. They would stand out in any collection and sure to sit nicely alongside Choe etc
I find it strange that potential genuine buyers are being ignored (for the want of a better word..), piss poor communication is very unprofessional in this current climate..that would bug me, especially if I had made a concerted effort only to be buffed off - regardless of numbers. Perhaps a case of the work being filtered through to appease their long term/time client base? Gallery exercising some restraint?
Good luck to those found wanting. I agree with lee3 that 'another time another place' is it seems, a more realistic option now.
ricosg11 ..can you open up on your 'stellar service' at all with Deitch?

Who are you buying from?, i have acquired and imported from US galleries on a number of occasions with my business and although its expensive for me to import pieces of Design from the US it usually arrives ok, cant you buy elsewhere and negotiate a deal for the difference?. I always found buying from Italy to be the most exciting! whatever i bought there it would usually be something quite different turn up haha.

I always found buying from Italy to be the most exciting! whatever i bought there it would usually be something quite different turn up haha.

I'm buying all over the US.I'm on my third container and my point is not that all Americans are hard to deal with but there have been times where I spoke with someone who was part of either the shipping or purchase process and they promised more than they delivered.I know this happens everywhere in the world but I think there is a misconception that Americans are customer focused and efficient when IMO they are as bad everyone else.

OS Gemeos ๐ง๐ท Sรฃo Paulo Graffiti โข Brazil Street Art, by ricosg11 on Jul 28, 2008 16:25:09 GMT 1, ricosg11 ..can you open up on your 'stellar service' at all with Deitch?
Sure. I credit them with my conversion from a casual print collector to an informed, passionate person with an immense appreciation for art. I bought my first expensive original from the a couple of years ago. A piece that taught me what the difference between living with art and simply owning a piece is. It is a feeling I didnt understand until I experienced it. After that first purchase I was seeking out a particular work by the same artist. It was an older work and one of the harder to find pieces. Well, about a week after I expressed interest they called me to say they had three different variations for me to choose from. To me that is great service. I have dealt with the same woman there throughout and cant use enough superlatives to describe her. She is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I dont have delusions of grandeur. These guys rep the Haring and Basquiat estates. In the grand scheme im a nobody, but they treated me like I was a top client. That is something I will never forget and will always be grateful for. So while I can appreciate the frustration discussed in the thread by others, it couldnt be further from my personal experience.
Ill also add, I like the fact that Jeffrey is super selective of buyers and protective of the work. Its nice to see a gallery to prefer to sit on work than flog it to any tom, dick or harry. Call me crazy.

My sentiments exactly!!!
Peres Projects has treated me in very much the same way, I love their staff and I trust Javier's judgement.
