OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by eschiff on Jan 29, 2014 17:09:03 GMT 1, muti Petrusino The prints sold out in minutes, there are hundreds of people ready to pay a lot more for them, and you're still going on about em being too pricey?!? How the hell does your logic work?!? You are entitled to your opinion and that is fine, but the facts and the common sense that majority of inhabitants on this planet are using, are against it. I'm just a little pissed off Sal; Because street art is born in the street, but then some street artists seems to forget this, Seems to forget all the supporters who have pushed them from the street to the top. This was their first release and they could put a lower price and larger editions, for all the supporters out there ... For example, how Faile does with all his various editions that meet all kind of pockets. 4k for their first print release is an insult ... if they want to become "The koons brothers" is normal for me doing a comparison with the real J koons. c'mon...the people on the street pushed them to the top? No. Incorrect. They did a lot of hard work and some well connected galleries pushed them to the top. The people snapping pics on instagram? C'mon.
i love the sense of entitlement people have. I can't afford it/don't like the image/etc so they're selling out and have forgotten about the little people. Jeez.

You are right, if these went on sale for £10k I am sure they would sell. I suppose my issue is that most folk fell into the hype which is exactly what 99 prints wanted. Would love to have been a fly on the wall when they were discussing price point and what they thought was too expensive. I am also maybe a bit old school in the way I like to see what I am buying for £4k

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by Deleted on Jan 29, 2014 17:15:12 GMT 1, Have we ever had the debate ( or a thread ) about who pays for these artists to paint walls around the world? While certain paint manufacturers may 'sponsor' certain artists there are huge costs involved in travelling etc.
If money raised from the sale of this print enables the brothers to travel and paint then so be it.
I'm familiar with the networks set up to help bands on tour etc. Is it similar? i.e mates offering floors and food.

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by Happy Shopper on Jan 29, 2014 17:18:44 GMT 1, i love the sense of entitlement people have. I can't afford it/don't like the image/etc so they're selling out and have forgotten about the little people. Jeez. It's the eternal street art conundrum isn't it!
I have to say I feel a little sick when I see Os Gemeos and JR all chummy with the rich and famous, releasing and supporting €4K prints in the middle of a global recession, while their art is about the little people, rebels, and the poorest in society (OG less so, but certainly JR).
It's a bit... "difficult", no?

Street art is born in the street sure, but unless you live in a favela in Rio, the only reason **I** have been able to see the work is by the collaborative efforts and skill between, of course, OsG and connected ART people pushing them out into the world, signing up commissioned walls worldwide (for which I have to feel like they are paid quite nicely), sponsoring trips here and there, etc.. In my eyes this print release IS their way of NOT forgetting "all the supporters who have pushed them from the street to the top". They probably grew tired of only having their canvases sell in the six-digit currency zones. Maybe they said to each other (and in exact synchronization because they're twins and twins do strange things as such), "you know it might be rather gracious if we were to organize a high-quality lithograph release to be sold to anyone with a computer and a bank account/credit card(!!), to change it up from the typically intangible super-elite VIP twerps who usually have the only access to our work".
Perhaps, a bit more unlikely but you never know, they said "well, Banksy released that heart balloon on barbed wire for [??] £50,000 to only VIPs/special people, so maybe we can keep ours a bit more realistic for the populous in general".

Hence why only 2 have appeared on eBay and both remain unsold. If they were anything between the 500-2000 euros bracket more would be up for sale and a completely different conversation would be taking place.

Listen, 4k is a lot for most, but if bloody dotdotdot or phlegm or dal put prints at that price they'd never sell. Why? Because they don't have a market for it, they release too much and frankly aren't that good of artists.
To be honest, the people talking about the money aspect are the ones that didn't get it like yourself!

I'd say they make a fair amount from originals though, and shouldn't worry about the "business of art" when it comes to prints for their fans... but that's all very tricky and I'm sure they're trying to manage their career (prices).

That is how your posts sounded between the lines - you WISH it was cheaper. But what you or me wish, and what Os Gemeos, Koons, Murakami, Faile or my drunken neighbor are doing, has NO connection. And trying to make a connection between those two, makes your posts sound silly. Instead, It seems silly to me to buy an Os Gemeos print at 4k when you can buy a J Koons at the same price .... from a point of view of investment. Instead, if someone bought it because he likes the image (after seeing it 3 seconds before the purchase. that image?? really!!??) chapeau.
That is how your posts sounded between the lines - you WISH it was cheaper. But what you or me wish, and what Os Gemeos, Koons, Murakami, Faile or my drunken neighbor are doing, has NO connection. I think the game has changed a lot in the pass 5 years the secondary market raised a huge awareness to the artist these day as they all search ebay and auction prices like we all do

You keep saying "investment" as though every buyer is strictly in it for the money and possible return. The sooner you realize that some people buy art because they like it, the better you'll represent yourself on art forums.
Until then, it's OK to admit that you just don't get it because you're trying waaaaaay too hard to convince people that you have better taste when clearly that doesn't seem to be the case.

Reckon I would have got one if I'd paid on PayPal instead of faffing with their archaic system, live and learn... Sorry to hear that. Their system was a joke - why wait to register an account until the time of the drop? Madness. Odd....I TOO was order 113

I mean Faile does the same thing really with more recent releases and so did Kaws. Pricing slightly below or at percieved market value. Granted Faile isn't fetching this kind of money for an edition print but I can bet you if they never released a print they could do whatever the F they wanted with the valuation of an edition of 99. Add Parla, Banksy, Neate, Fairey, Invader whomever to that list.
www.kawsone.com/shop/172 $24k sold out...
