OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by graffuturism on Jan 30, 2014 0:15:08 GMT 1, Was just going to come post this^ And with the KAWS pack you still needed $25K to play. It's a close comparison but I think goes to show more that the 4K was closer to reason than not. More people are aware of Kaws than Os G. So, that doesn't really count. I think thats debatable. Kaws has had great success, so has OG. They both are represented by the high end galleries with a large collector base, I dont know what Kaws og's sell for compared to OG but I could guess they are also similar. Both are from the same era and also genre. Kaws has 216K instagram followers compared to OG 200K, the list goes on. I would say they are neck and neck. Kaws could get the nod for being a tiny bit ahead of them but not by much.

He did some small editions of originals on paper. I think they were less then 3k. I can't imagine why someone would pay 4k for a print from an artist from whom you could get an original canvas work for $10 - 15k

His HPM prints edition of 8 were selling for 1400 I believe at Fabien Castier.

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by Poster Bob on Jan 30, 2014 0:28:44 GMT 1, about examples: Dolk was selling his prints ed of 25 on the last show for 4000$ or close... I think that most of them was sold Kaws porfolio ed. of 100 cost 25,000 $ so it's 2800$ for one print Last time I checked they are still available from the gallery. They're not that great.

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by Deleted on Jan 30, 2014 1:29:31 GMT 1, I always find it funny that street art, art that was "born on the streets." Democratic art, often anti-consumerist and made for "everyone" is actually just a scene filled with hundreds of thousands of rabid fans literally obsessed with owning limited editions for their interior walls. Whose lives somehow seem incomplete without a signed print they can own and consume and covet and flip for something better next year. Fans who continually defend the high prices demanded for these street art prints, whose editions generally trade at higher premiums than their contemporary artist counterparts. Don't blame 99 prints or os gemeos for manufacturing hype. They don't need to do that because all of you people have done it for them. It's the 10,000 posts on the Banksy forum and other forums that is the hype. It's all so ironic. Its not a democratic art at all it never has been, its an artform where artists do what they want on the streets without asking for permission I dont see the democracy in that at all. I can see graffiti and street art being more socialist than democratic due to the non-consumerist aspect of street work as you stated. You are are correct the fans do have an effect on the art in a negative way at times and collecting art has turned into whole genre of its own within street art. Its a biproduct of our societies and people wanting a part of something that is given freely in most cases. The difference between the twins and alot of other artists this forum caters to is that Os Gemeos are authentic representations of the real power of the artform, and most of the other hyped artists are products of the market and their work exists only because forums like this exist. You dont see those artists painting around the world still for free, giving donating shows to small galleries that helped them along the way. You see edition after edition from the same artists, and this feeds the craze you talk about. Yet when a true representative of our culture like the twins makes something available to the fans of course the frenzy will consume it as it does much lesser artists. To me judging them based on this print release alone is unfair, and the defending the value atleast in my case is trying to help people get past all the bulls**t that is being posted on here. I didnt buy one i wasn't lucky enough to and I wont buy one on the secondary market, I am ok with that. Os Gemeos has 200K instagram followers not because they sell prints and art but because they have touched a huge demographic, painted cities for the past 2 decades and imprinted themselves on the world. You dont think that 99 of those 200K fans can afford a 4K print? I dont see the problem with any hype that comes there way, only because they arent attention whores that feed off this hype and need to always be in the spotlight. They have found a balance in there work street/gallery and it works for them. I am sure someone mentioned making a print at a studio Picasso printed at and it sounded intriguing. One of the major reasons I coveted this print was because this print making process is also artistic in nature and each print is an extension of their art not just a reproduction. The guy that keeps bring up Koons is clueless I wont restate what I have stated about OG vs contemporary counterparts, I will say that there is no comparison to this print and a Archival Giclee photograph even if a smaller edition from the worlds highest paid artist. You are basically paying for his signature IMO and there is no soul in that image, OG hands are all over this print and there mark has been left on it in more way that just a reproduction. Secondly we wouldn't even be having this conversation if the price was printed at 1k because all friends and family would have all gotten them because they could afford it. 4k was a lot of money for anyone and not only did it take out some of the speculation it also took out the homey discount aspect of a print run that can happen. I am still taken back by some of these posts, I just have to shake my head. lots of words, yet you fail to make any kind of point

OS Gemeos 🇧🇷 São Paulo Graffiti • Brazil Street Art, by bmerel on Jan 30, 2014 4:19:00 GMT 1, CNN is reporting it was Justin Bieber he purchased it high as sin playing crash up derby with a stolen Maserati. So chances are the sale might not hold much water but I could be wrong. Bieber IS most likely the buyer. Bieber is going to corner the market. He's a jazz musician stuck in a very confused mind, body and soul!!!
I AM A BELIEBER.
I'm sure he will take this one as well...
