The OS Gemeos Effect, by stefan123 on Jan 30, 2014 15:06:33 GMT 1, Google results:
Apples: 29.900.000 (but thereยดs also a brand named 'apple') Pears: 7.160.000 Strawberries: 13.500.000 Bananas: 18.600.000
Why the f**k cost strawberries more than apples? Is it a hype?

The OS Gemeos Effect, by sohohoho on Jan 30, 2014 15:09:41 GMT 1, Discussing how popular an artist is to the general public is pointless. The general public don't drive the markets of artists. Os Gemeos might no be as popular as Banksy (or whoever) with the general public but Os Gemeos is far more coveted by the art community. There is no other artist in the urban/street art genre on the same level. Banksy/KAWS/McGee are up there as well as Fairey and Futura but they've all still got work to do if they want to challenge Os Gemeos' position.
P.S. Sorry if I missed out any artists who are up there with the best!

The OS Gemeos Effect, by Petrusino on Jan 30, 2014 15:19:19 GMT 1, Who? the deceased Dondi white? Seen? Taki 183? Cope 2? ...and many many more; ask to Martha Cooper. Or maybe Andrรฉ aka "Monsieur A".. when we talk about money I can not make a comparison with Murakami or Jeff koons, when it comes to history I can not make a comparison with Dondi.
Ok I give up

The OS Gemeos Effect, by sin on Jan 30, 2014 15:34:57 GMT 1, So 4 pages to discuss simple supply and demand correlations. Nice. Even if the twins are less in demand then invader to the wider art buying audience the lack of supply disctattes the value of the item. If there were other prints by the twins available the percieved value would be less as rarety would be less. Frankly, I think they were brilliant in holding off this long and pricing at $4500 US. Now they can do a drop a year at that price point and rake in 450K in guaranteed revenue until this urban art bubble explodes due to over saturation.
To the original point, will this release dictate pricing of future releases by other artists. Only if those artists restrict availability of their product and have a demand that correlates.

And if they relegate it to 1 release a year I think they'll still be able to stay afloat above the rest of the 'oversaturaters'. They're beloved and although in the immediate ripple people are scorned by the high price, I think over time that'll subside especially if combined with a lengthy period between print releases.

The OS Gemeos Effect, by graffuturism on Jan 30, 2014 17:53:16 GMT 1, On a side note. I can seriously say that I have written an art blog even if its more graffiti relatated and abstract art for the past 4 years. I am on the internet alot due to work and blogging which means I look at art hours at a time and read all major art blogs so forth. Until I became a member of this forum I had no idea who Dolk was, Martin Whatson, Dotdot and artists of this type. I have no idea how they slipped by me or maybe I never really paid attention but I never knew who these artists were, I knew artists like dface, stik, faile, bast, etc but I am still amazed how little I knew about these street artists. Maybe because I am american but these artists dont seem to pushed out here at all. I still dont know what that means but I have now learned about these artists because this forum, I continue to find out about artists regularly on here.

The OS Gemeos Effect, by BKBOI on Jan 30, 2014 18:42:23 GMT 1, For the people who are offended by the Os Gemeos release, would you have felt better if the print was only released to VIP's and were charged 4k euros for it and still sold out?

The OS Gemeos Effect, by maxf on Jan 30, 2014 22:29:38 GMT 1, Who is offended by a print release? Nobody surely?
If the price offends people, they need to remember there will always be stuff that people can't afford - whether it's a print, original, new car (which I have bought before unseen btw ), boat, holiday etc. Even the very wealthy have things they can't 'afford'! There is no right in a capitalist culture to have access to every luxury.
The only thing I'm offended by is the wanky website which wouldn't accept my details so it sold out!

The OS Gemeos Effect, by maddoghoek100 on Jan 30, 2014 23:11:35 GMT 1, Art has always been so regional. It seems like a very new phenomenon for more than a small handful of artists to have a truly global following, and so few break through to popular culture
Some of the talk up top was who would you like to see a fine art piece print from that does not do regular releases.
There are probably a half dozen guys/gals that i love that i would love to see a fine art release from. John Fekner comes to mind. You can buy signed photographs, but i would love a fine are limited edition. Im sure there are some thinking, who the heck is John Fekner and why would anyone care and some others thinking, dang i would pay some good money for that.

The OS Gemeos Effect, by anodyne13 on Jan 31, 2014 0:23:46 GMT 1, I personally have no problem with the release. But I can understand that there was an element of douchebaggery in not releasing the price and image of the print in advance. If they had released price and image in advance it would have been a more classy way to go about it, not that class amounts for much these days.

Somewhat true but i would challenge that in a conspiracy-theory-type way and say that the board was all a-flutter about OsG pricing at โฌ4,000 and I would reckon to you and others that was no random shot-in-the-dark guess.
The blurry teases and delay in showing image I guess could be seen with a raised brow, but I really don't think it has anything to do with class. Maybe check back into your childhoods and remember how fun it was to have a surprise like that?

The OS Gemeos Effect, by anodyne13 on Jan 31, 2014 5:24:40 GMT 1, I see what you're saying, but if you strictly look at pricing and releasing an image in advance vs waiting until the last minute, I think waiting until the last minute tilts the needle in the direction of not being forthcoming, which is not a desirable trait for the most part.
